Sharon Sutton: 'I'm Not An Employee, I'm A Commissioner!" No, Ms. Sutton, You're An Idiot

Commissioner Sharon Sutton, known to write bad checks, who had a home foreclosed on and who has unpaid bills, once said she has made some mistakes, but her financial struggles help her better relate to taxpayers.

So Ms. Sutton, also known to never miss a meal, how does staying in a hotel costing $500 per night help you relate to the taxpayers? We wish we could take our family on vacation this holiday weekend, but can't. We have to save money knowing furloughs are looming over the horizon. But even if we could, we can't afford $500 per night for a hotel room.

Are we surprised by her actions? No. What leaves us shaking our heads is how can her fellow commissioners give her a position on the budget committee. But what does surprise us, is she was re-elected in 2008.

No, we take that back. We're not surprised at all. Just look at the state of DeKalb County and the police department with this bunch of yahoo's in office.

Will anything happen? No. They will be re-elected and Brookhaven will become a city.

So typical for the Board of Crooks of this county. What is so special about this particular idiot?

Think about why she got re-elected.
Look at who re-elected her, does that surprise anyone? This goes for the same of everyone else who is in an elected position in this county. Nothing new, nothing new is going to happen in the coming years, and of course, nothing will change......POOOOOF....The county will be owned by the China.

You can stop with the fat jokes now.

Sutton is a dips#it. It'd be nice if the citizens of this county would assert that she and the rest of the "Gang of Seven" are county employees, PUBLIC SERVANTS.

That said, we all know that'll never happen, the lemmings will keep electing these morons and the county will go further down the sewer (or spill into a creek, like most of the county's sewage).

I want to know how much money was spent airbrushing the hell out of her official commissioner photo. That photo has better special effects than anything in Avatar.

She's got the same "I'm the king, the rules don't apply to me" attitude that Bolton had. Where do they keep finding this idiots?

Nope, still not surprised

I really don't know what to say about this. There should be some form of sanctioning or discipline, or something to remind these fools that they can not simply exploit. If nothing ever happens or no one ever does anything, this will continue indefinitely. With someone as brilliant as Ms. Sutton on the budget committee, can we really wonder how we've gone broke? You can be damn sure that if this was an officer going over any kind of allowance (I know bear with the fantasy) that they would be discplined and possibly forced to pay the difference after it was all over the news. Why should it be different for an elected position, and since when was a comissioner not an employee? She's on the payroll isn't she?

Fat jokes? Guess it really hits close to home when somebody calls it like they see it. Seems like there is always money to pay for expensive trips, airline tickets to fly all over the country and let's don't forget about the "large appetites"! Just another example of wasteful spending by our county government. Oh yea, guess we're lucky in one respect: the attitudes come free of charge.

Anonymous said...

Not an employee? Oh but you are an employee - you draw a check from DeKalb County which is taxpayer money. And if an ordinary person had written the check(s) and ignored them, they would have gone to jail for bad checks; the average person would have their paycheck garnisheed for unpaid bills. While you may place yourself above the law, in reality you are a law breaker.

The BOC is just like the school board, spend all the money you want because it's only tax money.

BHD said...

Let's face it. If you bounce checks, you are taking something that you know you can't pay for and are thus stealing. If you steal in this manner, you are a thief. If you are a thief/criminal, you should not be elected to public office and placed on a budget committe. What part of this doesn't Dekalb voters understand.

I'll reserve the "fat" comments as I think her stupidity "out weighs" their use. (pun intended)

What I find ironic is that fact that the BOC had gone on that trip to Washington to beg the federal crooks for money because we are broke.

If anyone ever pulls this lady over again and she has warrants on her, notify your supervisors and when anyone with significant rank tells you to let her go, advise them that you are clear on the unlawful order and that you will be 10-15 shortly with one adult female to intake....A warrant issued by a judge should be adhered to just like it is for everyone else

And who is shocked at the type of people elected by these citizens? Cynthia McKinney...Hank Johnson...need I say more?

But make sure that you adhere to and understand that you are held to a higher standard but those in charge of you (from some in the dept all the way to the so called leaders of the county) are exempt....what a friggin joke...

These are the same people that tell all of us "money isn't everything" when we voice our concerns about our pay and benefits. F#@$ these people and the county vehicle they rode in on!!

FYI,

In the last election, every single BoC member I could vote for was running unopposed.

Sometime ya hear sh*t and just have to shake your head. It doesn't matter what we say or think, only the voters can get her out of office.

I have a new name for Sharon Barnes Sutton. Instead of call her SBS or Comissionner Sharon Barnes Sutton. Lets call her "Commissioner Bad Checks" and everyone will know who we are talking about in Dekalb County polictics.

Now, that makes true sense !!

Anon 11:00 a.m. - how the hell could you leave off Vermin from your list of criminals???????

12:38 - sometimes the problem is that NOBODY RUNS AGAINST the candidate! Ellis has stated he intends to run for re-election - GET BUSY and start recruiting for an opponent !!!!!!!!!!

The DeKalb County taxpayers should be outraged! We demand an audit of all departments before any tax increase. Did you forget this woman is over Public Safety?

What did you think you were getting when you elected a criminal who writes bad checks and put her over the police. What the hell?

Who is the assistant Barnes Sutton seems to take on these trips? The reporter said something about her paying for two on her P-Card.

We need the GBI to look into the misuse of these P-cards. We demand an audit and nothing less!

You just cant make this crap up.....
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

DeKalb County recently agreed to spend $1.24 million to expand parking at one of its most popular senior centers.

The work will add 153 new parking spots at the Lou Walker Senior Center in south DeKalb. It also will add an elevator, stair tower and pedestrian bridge and sidewalks at the center. The county is spending federal block grant money on the project, which is slated to begin later this year.

Well...Sutton is reflective of the voters who put her in...what is sad is watching these folks who are dependent on social programs get bled by such an arrogant, opportunistic, greedy - and, yes fat - person like Sutton. Let the voters hold her responsible. That's all you can do.

I see Jerry's kids are working the interstates this weekend. Way to go guys, keep the revenue coming in for the crooks in Decatur.
What about doing something worthwhile like answering calls and keeping the citizens safe.

Anon May 27, 2011 5:16pm,

Perhaps you need to be reminded. It is Memorial Day weekend and all agencies across the entire United States are stepping up enforcement along the highways to keep them safer and reduce unneeded injuries and deaths.

Do your job and let them do theirs.

Anonymous said...

Anon 5:16 PM: yes sir you are exactly right about "Jerry's kids". Rush hr traffic...right there in all their glory on Stone Mtn Freeway...writing them right and left...you go get 'em boys... after all, "Jerry says". Stopping speeders has its place but I sure do wish you would come on over here to my street behind #34 and stop all of the speeding cars flying by the known drug house trying to let this girl and her mother know that they are close by so they can hook up for the big "deal". And please don't anyone suggest we go to Rutland or Wiz or O'Brien. We haven't bought dope from them so what the heck do we know? Except that the girl has 44 guilty pleas in DeKalb alone & she's only 36 y/o & her mother is 73! Craddock used to laugh at us when we complained & even referred to us as nosy neighbors. But you can bet your ass he would have never put up with this in HIS neighborhood.

Looking at who controls what committees in DeKalb government is the eye-opener for me. We have Elaine Boyer the fiscally responsible Republican in charge of the misnamed Employee relations and community services committee who is deperately trying to save the county money by screwing the employees on their pension contributions and benefits, while Commissioner Sutton is attempting to spend it all in her Finance committee.
No wonder the county is so fracked up. From the employees viewpoint things could not get much worse, but I suspect they are about to.
Consider this, the county needs to cut about 45 million in its budget. Commissioner Sutton doesn't understand the idea of "load-shedding" non-critical functions such as Parks and Rec, extension service, economic development or recreation and cultural affairs, instead the BOC offers generic budget reductions that have cut core services while maintaining unimportant non-core functions such as the extension service while DKPD's Aerial Support Unit is grounded for the first time in 40 years and the crashed helo unit never replaced.
Elaine Boyer, bless her heart, is trying her best to save the county money but her only influence is in the ERSC and she has targeted the employee pension contributions as her solution to saving the county money.
The employees are looking at a grim situation. From the politics and ideology of the committee chairs, the employees will be screwed financially to maintain non-core government services.
On a positive note, I wish everyone a happy Memorial Day holiday, for those of y'all working, be safe! I am heading to the mountains, packed the dogs, grabbed the beer, I am ready to roll!
Best of luck, guys!

Can you say "Island of Misfit Toys"!!

I agree anon 5:16. Numerous studies show tickets do not prevent accidents or slow people down.
Just another revenue source for governments. As long as we have people in these special units that are scared of calls, the commissioners will always have money to play with.

I'd vote for Ron Burgundy for Commissioner

This is a prime example why Commissioners to should be only allow to hold their position for (2)terms just like the CEO. There are some on this board who has been there entirely to long! The longer they stay, the more corrupt they become!!!!! Get rid of them all!!!!!!

Interesting article about crime in DeKalb County - city vs. unincorporated.

You say speed enforcement does not reduce accidents, this study says otherwise. To which study might you be referring?

http://www.nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Traffic+Techs/current/Municipal+Speed+Enforcement+Programs+Evaluated

I also heard TAC jumping wrecks and handling wires down on South.

Anon 11:18PM, Craddock, Rutland, and half of this department have all bent over backwards trying to make you happy. You say the cops have done nothing to help with your "drug kingpin neighbor", but you also say she has 44 guilty pleas. Which is it? Have the cops done nothing, or have they arrested over 44 times? You can't have it both ways.

Just some FYI for a few ill-informed commenters:

Sharon Barnes Sutton has never been re-elected; she was elected for the first time in 2008. She ran against Viola "Unhappy Taxpayers" Davis and defeated her in a runoff. So you can't say voters didn't have a good choice.

As for the commissioners length of service. If you're upset about people being there too long, then be most upset with Elaine Boyer. She's the longest serving commissioner, having first been elected in 1992. Jeff Rader was first elected in 2006. Larry Johnson was first elected in 2002. Lee May was first elected in 2006. Kathie Gannon was first elected in 2004. And Stan Watson was first elected in 2010.

So for the person that wants term-limits of eight years, that would mean Elaine Boyer and Larry Johnson would be the only ones to have already exceeded that limit.

listen rookies, f*** the tickets ISSUE WARNINGS continue to pull cars over and enforce state law, when all you have is a minor traffic infraction, follow the guidelines in the employee manual, written warnings or even verbal warnings are permitted. You will not be disciplined for exercising your discretion. How sad is it when you pull over a 40 year old woman for a minor traffic infraction, and she shows you the 3 tickets she was given on East. No tag light, expired tag (3 days) and brake light not working at 530am. Really?? No tag light?? wtf... while she was on the way to work. How embarrassed was I to even be wearing the same uniform as the guy at East Pct who wrote this lady bullshit tickets like this. Did writing these tickets really prevent vehicle accidents?? Hell no it just makes the sorry supervisor at East happy, and the rookie cop the poor idea that he is doing a good job. I wont even work a part time job at east anymore who the hell is 411M? dude shut the hell up

To May 29 12:21. I think my neighbors would tend to disagree with you. Since when does anybody within our public safety dept. "bend over backwards" for just one person? Don't recall being on anybody's "special" list. You make it sound as if we didn't have the right to ask for help. You would be frustrated too if you and your neighbors have had to put up with this for 19 years. And moving is not an option. You work hard to finally own your own home and to put it up for sale & move is a difficult decision to make. Our neighborhood is most appreciative for the time and effort put in by the dept. to help us in past times. Please do not think that we aren't. But we surely could use a little help again. You obviously know who I am so let me say you are welcome to call or stop by sometime , if you're still with the dept., and we could discuss the matter and any suggestions you might have that could bring peace and calmness back to our neighborhood. .

Yep East is ridiculous, the stand-up officers left from there long ago. Just a bunch of yes men and ass kissers left to interact with the public.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:23 AM, if you were appreciative, you wouldn't be on here naming and bad mouthing people who did, in fact, bend over backwards to try to please you. Everything you've asked the police department to do, they have done and then some.

Can anyone tell me why motor officers have take cars. Im sure there must be a good reason.

3:08? Good God Almighty. Elaine Boyer. The only Commissioner who continues to fight for you guys, listens to your issues, and has been responsible for preserving benefits and preventing several from being taken away. Give me a damn break. You should be praying that she remains a Commissioner. If it makes you feel better to attack than to get informed, then go ahead and vent. You included "LoFlyer".
I live in her district, and I do not work for the county, so forget your snide comments about my support of her. I keep informed as a county citizen, and since IMO she is the only commissioner who is not arrogant, not incompetent, nor a criminal, you should be singing her praises, not criticizing her and the length of time she's been held the office. May get off this blog forever after this - ya'll are getting out of control.

Anonymous said...

You have it all wrong. You can not fix this from the top. You have to start at the bottom. We need a better class of citizens that will elect a better class of commissioners.

Anonymous said...

11:05 It is what it is. We continue to live it everyday. Enough said.

@12:25PM a.k.a. Good God Almighty,

I was simply presenting facts to other ill-informed commenters here. I was not criticizing Boyer, so you can cool it with your temper tantrum and threats to never visit this site again.

A commenter thought the commissioners have all been in office too long. The fact is only Boyer and Johnson have served more than two terms (the commenters proposed term limit length). Everyone wanted Vernon out and now everyone wants Ellis out. Are you beginning to see a pattern?

People think a new commissioner or CEO will make lots of positive changes; however, the changes only come when those in office are pressured (by residents, employees, business owners) to make them. Until these groups get organized and remain vocal, all you'll be doing at election time is rearranging the chairs on a sinking ship.

Sharon Sutton is a PARASITE leaching off the taxpayers of Dekalb County and other counties and cities by writing bad paper and using her title to wiggle out of the charges. She is wasted space to put it very simply.

Anonymous said...

There are a number of trained individuals who can take fiscal responsibility over county resources. I propose a group of us get together and make citizen-suggested remedies for budget cuts and improved processes. Allow a citizen committee to choose the idea committee and hopefully you won't get friends, family, or family members trice removed. Time for a change in county governance and in the school board. We need to elect trained persons and not laypersons. They all work for us!

There should be term limits for all politicians. Politics should not be a lifelong endeavor. It should be something you do and then go back to your real job.
Sharon Barnes Sutton is a sow and a curse to the taxpayers.
