Now What Will They Do? Commissioners Miss Budget Deficit By 20 Million Dollars

The commissioners by law have to vote on a final budget on February 23, 2010 a mere 5 days away. It looks like they have relied on Sharon Sutton's financial expertise. At this late stage in the game, we learn the county is not 8o million in debt, but 100 million, with the numbers possibly rising (AJC 021810).

In the next 5 days, only 2 of these are working business days, where will the extra cuts come from? Will police and fire now be included in the furlough days? Will they screw us by not only taking away our paid holidays, but not paying us for working those holidays like they just did?

Maybe Burrell Ellis will withdraw his request to increase his budget by $300,000.00. Maybe he will withdraw plans for a Director of E911 Operations, for 6 months including 1 vehicle, supplies and equipment at the tune of $102,495, or $204,990 yearly.

One way Ellis will come up with the money is hidden tax by demanding an increase in traffic citations by 3%. You can bet that number will be going up now.

Here are a couple of links for your reading pleasure. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Let's not forget the freeze on promotions and the "restructuring" of the dept by making corporals and eliminating Sgts positions.

Maybe we can do it the Obama way and spend our way out of this fiscal nightmare!!!!

This county is so upside down, its ridiculous. This isn't something that just happened overnight. Why has it taken the Commisioners so long to do something sooner? Obviously we know why, there's one particular commisioner that can't keep up with her own finances, so how in the hell can she keep up with the counties. Maybe it's identify fraud!!!!

They all need to go and they can take those useless photo boards they put up the day after we returned from our last furlough day with them.

A 911 Director is needed, but 6 months stint will not be effective, we need a 911 professional full time year round who can deliver results and NOT nothingness. fix it. Now that Bolton and Foster are gone, the Police and Fire departments need to be handed over to the Chiefs to run. The Public Safety Director and his office expenses and staff are no longer needed. He has no expertise in fire and rescue, homeland security, emergency management, or 911 communications. His job here now is about PR and breathing down Chief Obriens neck cause thats what he knows. I hope he stays with DeKalb, but back with the DA's office and runs against Gwen. CEO may put in hours but so do we. cut public information budget and get twitter, facebook, and a blog. for free.

I got an idea. How about eliminating all the Commissioner's position to help save money. How about making their position voluntary! See how many code 4 perps stick around then. Let pay real accountants to handle the deficit these dummies (commissioners) help create.

I have heard a rumor that the county plans on borrowing money from our pension fund to pay off vacation time for the early retirees. It seems as this should be illegal. I think I would rather we invest with Bernie Madoff than Dekalb Co.

DO NOT LET THE COMMISSION NEAR OUR PENSION!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLD THE PENSION BOARD RESPONSIBLE !!!!!

Darn crooks must be asking that code 4 perp for advise. No, you cannot have our pension!!!!! They are desperate. Do not vote for those criminals next term! They are trying to please the public for votes and they are scrambling for quick ignorant resolutions. Clearly they are as ignorant as they come....from the crook on down.
