This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.
Of course Special Ops has to be the only ones highlighted in the video. We all know, the world revolves around Special Ops and the tickets they write. Who cares about CID and all they do?
If I did NOT know better, I would sign up today..I saw a lot of old friends in there. It is a great video, I'm glad they thought enough of radio to include us in there. Overall GREAT JOB
Here is what a 14 year law enforcement SERGEANT for DeKalb County Police Department progresses throughout the financial ladder This is no Joke I was 25 years old when I got hired here in 1997, I loved this place. Shit really started going down hill around 2004-2005.. Who the fuck wants to work here?? 1998 33,000 1999 34,000 2000 35,000 2001 36,500 2002 37,500 2003 39,500 2004 41,500 2005 44,500 2006 47,000 2007 49,750 2008 52,000 2009 52,500 2010 52,500 2011 51,000
WHAT. A. JOKE. Hey DKPD, how about letting your officers create a video. I don't think you would like to know how the officers really feel. Wait, you know, You just don't give a damn.
If you wanna be screwed out of money, leave, pension, promotions, part time work or anything else; join DKPD , it's the place to be.
To the SERGEANT that mentioned the pay... Don't forget to figure in the furlough days, increase pension and health insurance premiums. With all that figured in, you actually make less money every year you work for DKPD
good video crappy pd. good luck with rico act dkpd. You and APD are destroying law enforcement in Ga. Oh and thank you for taking care of my friend who had his house burglarized. It took you over two hours to arrive and clear his house. Pathetic im tired of answering questions from civilians on why you and apd are so jacked up.
To Anon May 14, 2012 1:18 PM, here are a few of the lies. 1- The place to be in Law Enforcement.. Not n e more. 2- More then writing tickets??? Not according to the upper brass. The Academy having fat and out of shspe people coming out of it. Most of the upper brass, who have time, are counting the days to they leave and will get a sweet and I mean a sweet retirement.. Some deserved, most not.... Wiz, Holmes and OB, to name a few.... I like OB and he was a great officers,Sgt and so on, but as chief, he sucks the big one and is just 1012 to leave........He should mot be able to collect a pension at a chiefs rate. If I calulate right, he'll get about 90 grand or somewhere near that, a year for the rest of his life... There are some of the lies........"M Gone and Happy".
The video was very well done and reminds me of what our department once was and what it could be again. We have a lot of great officers but leadership is the problem. A new CEO would be a great place to start in terms of better leadership but the department has it own problems.
Nice video. Makes me want to come back! Seriously!
Anon 9:16 I normally try to be positive on this post but, when someone from another agency takes shots at my family and friends of both APD & DKPD sometimes something just has to be said. Be very careful about what you say about other departments. If in fact you even work in LE. Your department can be one incident, one person, one politican & one investigative reporter away from the beginning of various departmental or county/city issues. Unless You've lived or worked in Atlanta or Dekalb I suggest you reserve your comments. Just a suggestion. As for answering questions about both agencies, you chose to do so. I'm sure neither agency asked you to be their liaison. One other suggestion. As for your friend's house, I hope it never happens again. But should it, have him call you!
Every Department has it's good days and bad days, but we have been stuck on bad for a while now. We all go to work everyday and do what we have to do but there are not that many officers that want to go out and do proactive patroling anymore. 7 years ago I really thought that I would retire from DKPD but now I dont have that same thought anymore..I really hope that this department gets turned around and quick or the only people we will have working here are the perps that the departmetn will have to hire becasue no good officer will want to work here
Planning to move my family from Washington DC to the Atlanta area. I'm currently a Washington DC officer and I've put in an application with Dekalb County PD. Are things really that bad down in Dekalb? I do know that what I'm reading in certainly possible because we are having some of the same going on in DC. No raises in 6 years, chief and command staff has gotten their money though. Chief makes 253,000 yearly and just signed a new deal. Department increased our contribution to health care. luckily the FOP got that overturned. The list goes on. Keep watching each others back and pushing on. Be Safe
Anon 6:38 Yes things are that bad in Dekalb. If you are a good, hard working, honest officer please don't apply here. This department has corruption running through it starting with the Director of Public Safety and his chronie Asst Chief Holmes. You will not only have to watch your back on the streets, but also within the dept. I've been here 18 years and I would not recommend anyone with integrity coming into this dept. until someone comes in and cleans house and makes it a respectable dept. again. Unfortunately, some of us are stuck due to time in and pensions (which are changing and increasing yearly). Please find another county or local agency. It will benefit you and your family in the long run.
DC, FOP got that overturned? .....the unions and the FOP are neutered here in the Georgia.... you get what they give you minus the cost of crapo Py benefits (healthcare out of pocket that cover only catastrophic incidents) and a reduced pension program whose contribution keeps jumping.
Wow it can't be that bad and I am coming down there in July for my written and agility test. Coming from Minnesota with about a year of college and no police experience except my service learning hours and ride alongside I've done up here. I don't have any kids and I am not married. I just want to work as a cop and up here when a job opens 900 people are applying with way more experience then I have. So I'm still coming down there regardless of what I have been seeing and hearing I just want to be a cop and hopefully work with some of the good officers left at DKPD. Oh and I'm not a criminal so hope my chances are still good.
Anon 6:00. I understand wanting to be a law enforcement officer, but really this is not the place to do it. What you read on here is true. I've lived it too many years to count. This county changes you and it's not worth it. Look up other agencies in Georgia if you are set on coming here. Or go through the academy, become POST certified and go to a respectable agency. I wish you the best. There are still many good officers here and that's why we're telling you the truth about this agency. It wasn't always like this, but this is what it has become.
Study the benefits and compare other agencies. This DKPD is what you make of it. You will learn here, in a short amount of time, what it takes years to learn at a smaller department.
Anon 6:28 I actually tried with gwinnett county but was unable to meet their deadline as I was waiting for some documents to arrive in the mail so I could continue with the background packet so now I have to wait for a year to reapply with their department. And what do you mean this agency changes you? And yes I am dead set on coming to Georgia I'm done with the snow and cold weather been up here for 28 years and I have had enough I will try and keep looking but on this website that has all states with open LEO positions Dekalb and I think Atlanta are on there with continuous application recruiting. I mean don't get me wrong I have been following what's going on in Dekalb since I put in my pre application and now have a testing date set for July 13th to do the written and agility and I just have not been able to find any other department hiring in Georgia at the moment except APD and DKPD and I think Savannah PD so idk. I mean thanks for the concern and knowledge but I am still going to go through the process. I have my heart set on being a officer in Georgia. Hey if I get in hopefully I will have the honor of working with you ya never know
I can't imagine how difficult it must be in this day and age to be in law enforcement. But there really are a lot of citizens who appreciate what you do, and wish nothing but the best for you. If someone good wants to come here from out of state, I for one welcome you, and hope that your experience is rewarding.
Yes, I can second the thought posted above about getting a lot of good experience in a short amount of time...DKPD sees it all in volume....you'll definitely get a lot of good experience in a short amount of time. Nothing wrong with coming, learning, getting experience then deciding on whether to stay or go federal....agencies love the experience gained from a few years at DKPD
Thanks for the info guys and the support so I'm still planning on coming down on July 13 for the exam and agility testing. On another not I have been hearing if your a white Guy it may be more difficult and some people have been racists towards white people is this really going on? I mean I could give a shit less personally since I get along with all races of people but was just wondering if since I'm white is it going to be harder? Just something I heard.

Too many big bellies on the white shirts for a recruitment video.
Of course Special Ops has to be the only ones highlighted in the video. We all know, the world revolves around Special Ops and the tickets they write. Who cares about CID and all they do?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Yea right. This video was true back in the day but now, please, give me a break.
The few, the good, the proud! DKPD
I have been here 22 years and I'm 11 thousand dollars from the top out pay for Master Police Officer.
Someone who comes here is out of work or looking for some money until they find something that pays more money.
Nice video guys.. good job done.. btw 10 yr vet..
What lies M Gone?
If I did NOT know better, I would sign up today..I saw a lot of old friends in there. It is a great video, I'm glad they thought enough of radio to include us in there. Overall GREAT JOB
Please post update on the wife of Dekalb officers wife
Is this the video the first 48 did before they were kicked out by the commissioners?

DAMN THAT WAS A GOOD VIDEO..I GOT AN IDEA, LET'S TRY AND GET THE DEPARTMENT TO LIVE UP TO IT!!!!

I do think this was the work of the studio that produces "First 48" (ITV), but they sure as hell didn't spend much time on it.
I could have made this video using Final Cut in about a day (footage provided). Impact font, canned effects, predictable bed music.
Another bad deal by the DKPD and BOC...
The video was very well done and reminds me of what our department once was and what it could be again. We have a lot of great officers but leadership is the problem. A new CEO would be a great place to start in terms of better leadership but the department has it own problems.

What department do you work for?
We have a helicopter?
What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!! Good video...........but such a deadend department to work for......
Pay, promotions, merit, leadership,.......you name it........this is one messed up department.
To potential candidates........... BAD IDEA.
The department will flat out lie to you to get you to join.
Blogmaster........"Open Comments: Lies I was told about benefits by DKPD...."

BeSafe!
The place to FLEE in law enforcement!
Only a moron would apply with dekalb with all the better alternatives in the southeast.
Dekalb has exactly the crappy PD its citizens deserve. They keep electing corrupt self serving demcorats who drive the county into the ground.
The only the thing that will save LE in Dekalb is what saved it in Fulton County. The formation of new smaller city PD's.
Its coming! Dekalb PD will soon be a shell of what it once was and for good reason.
