This incident sounds bad all the way around. I will not comment further on the incident until some definitive details come out.
What is especially disheartening to the old timers is the sheer amount of fraud and crime being committed everyday by DeKalb employees. Almost every week some story appears about an employee committing fraud or abuse. Link is:
http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/corrupt-dekalb-supervisor-headed-1461279.html
There has always been a certain amount of fraud or crimes by the employees. This is getting out of hand. The citizens are losing confidence in DeKalb government.
So how did DeKalb government arrive at the state that weekly employees are being charged and convicted for crimes?
DeKalb political leadership sucks. Commissioner Sherry Barnes/Sutton is the poster child for poor leadership. Four grand in bad checks to Walmart and she walks away with no time. What kind of example does the Commissioner set for the employees? CEO Burrel Ellis has enough shady deals under his administration to float a battleship. Ex-CEO Jones, Executive assistant Stognar and HR director Stone were all convicted in federal court for a “creating a hostile work environment” to the employees.
DeKalb leaderships response to the conviction was nothing. Nada, Absolutely no interest in correcting the issue of institutionalized racism. If the color of the victims was reversed I have no doubt that DeKalb employees would be attending “diversity” seminars.
Substandard employee salaries and benefits that attract poorly qualified candidates.
Changes in demographics and culture.
A failing education system that teaches a false sense of entitlement to other citizens hard earned cash.
Only DeKalb citizens can vote for good and honest political leadership.
The problem starts at the top and extends all the way down to the rank n' file employees.
DeKalb is long due for a clean sweep of corruption over the last decades.
Politically this is not correct. It doesn't fit the liberal narrative. DeKalb is truly fracked.
My opinionated opinion.
Best of luck gals and guys!

To KenC: you write the citizens are losing confidence in DeK. gov. Man, where have you been during the past few years? The citizens in this county lost confidence in our government long ago..and with just cause. Let's just hope the voters' eyes are wide open when election time comes and will see Ellis for what he has turned out to be and what he has done to our county. Hopefully, there will be no re-election.

3:13 and 1:42, you are both correct. This is an issue that our country is now dealing with. For some time we have seen our government(s) positions being used as jobs programs giving little to no value to citizens, and in response, the citizens are now warming up to reductions in pension programs and benefits to future and current retirees. Unfortunately, those of us that gave years of professional and responsible service to DeKalb citizens may pay the price for our societal decline and poor decision making of elected leaders.

from a retired employee of DKPD....

I worked there when DeKalb P.D. was ranked #3 in the nation among all Police Departments...I hate to think where it is ranked now...At that time the saying was if you couldn't handle it in DeKalb there is always APD....I don't think that can any longer be said...I get sad and disheartened every time I see DeKalb on the news.....Glad to be retired..
