County Screws Retiree

This is a heart breaker. Because of someone in Decaturs incompetence, this retiree is screwed, by no fault of his own.

Not once do you hear Burrell's puppet Burke Brennan offer any type of apology or even mention the person at fault will be held accountable. The only person being held accountable is the retiree who did the right thing.

All you retirees better check your paperwork and have copies available, God help your family should you die and your beneficiary not receive their rightful benefits.

Contact the department of finance at 404-371-2861.

This can't be true. DeKalb has nothing but the highest caliber of employees handling our personnel matters. They've never screwed up our annual enrollment, or given out the home address of an officer to a perp who called in demanding it.

So this retiree got paid $6000 too much and the county is going after him?? Did anyone call Judge Walker from Recorder's Court and ask her for the $90 million she lost or never collected?? No, she was allowed to resign and can still be seen occasionally walking her corrupt fat ass around Camp Circle. No investigation what so ever! Can someone remind me how much money the commissioners spend every month feeding their fat, crooked, worthless, lying mouths?? God forbid they have to pay for their own lunches like the rest of us! How much of a pay raise did Ellis give his secretary a couple of years ago, when the rest of the county employees, police and firefighters, haven't seen one in over 5 years??

The county also paid me the higher amount not the reduced amount due to their error but on my first check I realized their error and reported it to them, they corrected their error and no harm. Prior to retirement get a worksheet from the county showing your retirement benefits with and without survivors benefits.I would and did double check all the county's math.

When I retired I checked, double checked and triple checked to make sure they got mine right. On the 1st check I got, sure enough, they screwed the whole thing up and I had to drive all the way to downtown Decatur to get them to fix it. I live over 250 miles away from Decatur now. Month 3 check, (direct deposited into my account) they screwed it up again, so I had to go all the way to downtown Decatur to get them to try and fix this mess again!
It almost got to the point I thought they were intentionally screwing with my retirement benefits. I am still not convinced they werent. To me, this is either an example of blatant dislike of those who who have worked thier whole lives helping and protecting the citizens of Dekalb County, like me; Or and example of blatant incompetence that has obviously been ignored; Or maybe they just dont care.
30 years ago, when I got hired, who knew DeKalb would bottom out so fast and so competely.

He's over paid and the county screwed him? It could be interpreted that he got 6 grand of other retirees money and the county is rightly seeking the return of the over payment. With all that is going on in this man's life the county's mistake does make this a very bitter pill but I expect the county to properly investigate their mistake, discipline if necessary and make amendments to procedures to eliminate any further errors.

The county still owes the pension money it borrowed for the people to retire. Are we going after the county?

Oh, you didn't see that story? Now the commissioners get free lunches from county vendors. They don't think there's anything wrong with that since these companies already do business with the county.

When I heard divide and conquer it makes me laugh. To divide something it must first be whole. During my career as a Dekalb police we were solid as Jello. We had a little backing from each other and command staff. Now its more like I'm in it for myself. That is the sign of the times. Bolton, Marinelli, Graham didnt make the system the just pulled the curtain back from the Oz.

It's sad that all of you contributing to a pension that you will most likely never benefit from and causes you to have less take-home pay than much smaller agencies that are less demanding continue to pay into it. California just had several agencies vote on a referendum cutting county retirees pensions in half. Care to guess which way DeKalb residents would vote if given the same choice as to higher taxes or cutting Public Safety pensions? Get out while you can.

Is the county paying back the money the pension board loaned to it for the early retirement? What kind of return are we getting on that Mr Robertson?

There was almost 2 billion in our once fully funded pension fund and now there's less than one billion. I guess the "early outers' will be the only ones benefiting from it. The rest of us will be watching it collapse from the bread line. Freeze it and leave or cash it out if you are able my friends as it is being drained quickly like everything in Dekalb.

Is the county paying back the millions they borrowed from the pension from the early retirement? I bet not and I bet no one on the pension board is BOC's feet to the fire about it either.
