Cop Killer William Woodard On Trial Today

Opening statements are scheduled to get underway today in the trial of William Woodard who gunned down two off-duty DeKalb County police officers.

William Woodard killed DeKalb County police Ricky Bryant Jr. and Eric Barker. Both were working an off-duty security job at an apartment complex in January 2008 when they were shot to death.

DeKalb County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Woodard. Let's hope they get it.

Is he still trying to claim "self defense"? If there ever was a case that needed the death penalty, this is it.

Thoughts and prayers are coming from Rochester, NY, where Ricky was laid to rest. We pray that Justice be finally served.

I hope the DAs office doesn't f... it up. They're not used to taking a case to trial

Ok. Im confused? I thought woodard used his own weapon, according to officers who responded. But the prosecution (not the defense) is saying he took Barkers gun and shot him in the abdomen?????

4:36, no that's not what the prosecution said happened. Woodard had the gun all along and was seen showing it off the day before the shooting according to a witness today. The witness also said he made threats about using the gun on law enforcement.

1:13, Geary is handling this case. He's 2nd to none.

Ok....He is guilty....get the rope and lets start. None of this bs for the next 25 years.

Lets show him what justice is really about.

This case may cause a slight delayed in Andrew Baker's (Planning) case.

Maybe if DKPD could write better reports and properly investigate cases, more would be tried.

Maybe the DA's office could do a better job reading those reports. I'm tired of calls asking me about stuff clearly written in the report. Also, I you want me to testify at trial, why don't you meet with me a week or so ahead of time to go over what happened instead of calling me two hours before you need me on the stand and asking if I remember what happened?

Get the facts correct before u comment and who are u to judge, your not God!

I know all of the facts I need to know. Barker and Bryant were outstanding officers who did nothing wrong that night. Woodard is a lifetime criminal who comes from a family of criminals, he illegally possessed a gun that night as a repeated convicted felon, and killed two innocent men with families in cold blood. I'll judge all I want to.

Unfortunately, it's not known all the time which case is going to trial. We have elected judges that like to pick and chose out of all the cases on a calendar and it's immpossilbe to be ready to go on all. Maybe 12:33 writes a good report, but you should try reading your co workers. If RMS would have spell check, it would make some officers look smarter!!

To Oct 4 707am, You need to get your punk ass off of this blog.

Let's look at the "facts."

Woodard wasn't even there! He said so! His mother said so to the media!

Wait, he was there. Nevermind.

He's not guilty because he has diminished capacity!

Wait, the psychologists said he's fine.

So what's the latest lie he's using as a defense?? Self defense??

Give me a break!! If it was self defense, that would have been his defense from day 1, not starting on day 1543!!

This blog is about two innocent police officers being killed and leaving families behind. Take your arguing about police reports to the open comments section and have some respect for these two officers. They lost their lives to a career criminal who has no value for human life. I feel bad for the families who have to relive all the horrible details while this scum bag claims self defense. Convict and give him what he deserves.

Remind me again how the deaths of two people justifies the murder of a third person?
