Mitch, you will be missed. Great guy, great supervisor, great instructor, strong as hell. RIP.
I was in his last academy class (65th) and then he and I both went to North Pct where he was my Sgt for a while. Truly a great person. RIP
Very sad news. I remember Sgt. Mitchum from his days at the Police Academy. He was a good man and a good Police Officer. My prayers are with his family in their time grieving. Rest in peace Sgt. Mitchum.
RIP, Leon, you were one of the best and hardest working back in the day! May God bless your family.

RIP Sarge..It was an honor working for you. You were and always will be a great person and a leader. I will always remember you as a great Sgt
When I last saw him, I never thought for one moment that it would be my last time seeing him. He smiled and spoke. He was such a pleasant person. Take this moment to appreciate a coworker or friend. You will be missed Sarge. Let us keep his family in our prayers in this time of darkness.
My friend and co-worker, this was truly one of the good guys in evey way imaginable. He was well respected amongs his peers and a very knowledgeable Sgt. We are going to miss him greatly. Sgt. Gamble.
Vaya Con Dios, Amigo.
Leon's wife is my cousin. I have known him since high school when they started dating. Great man and a great family. I am deeply saddened.
You were a great Sergeant and an outstanding person. What a great friend you were to many. Watch down on us from Heaven Sarge. You will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. God bless you.
You will be missed Mitchum. You were a great man and police officer.
Sgt. AL Mitchum was a helluva man! He was an exemplary policeman and training instructor. He always knew when you needed a pat on the head or a boot in the rear! In my mind’s eye I can still see him in all his USMC sharpness (creased shirt, perfect flat-top, polished boots), glaring down at us from the instructor’s podium, leaning slightly forward, cocking his eyebrow, then letting us all know (in that unique booming voice) that we were nothing but a bunch of “YOOO HOOOs!!” Hopefully, Sarge is putting in a good word for us remaining Yooo Hooos. You will truly be missed, sir. May God comfort the family during this time.
R.I.P. Mitch - a great man. God bless your family.
