Subject: Secondary Employment

The Department has procured assistance from an independent company specializing in managing off-duty employment for police agencies and their officers. On May 1, 2021, our Department will transition from officer-coordinated scheduling to a professional management company. Before the transition occurs, everyone will receive training on the software and get the opportunity to become familiar with the program.

The company provides the below benefits and much more:

  • a centralized location for viewing and requesting job assignments
  • off-duty insurance at no cost to the officer or business
  • internet-based real-time job announcements to ensure fair and equal opportunity for everyone
  • 24/7 access through any internet-capable device, including the management company’s app
  • guaranteed weekly payments for every job worked
  • one annual IRS tax form
  • more opportunities for off-duty employment
  • guaranteed increased rates for holidays, last-minute requests, special events, and other predetermined stipulations
  • guaranteed compensation for a business’s last-minute cancelation
  • all listed jobs will have been vetted to reduce liability to the officer

For your convenience, you can click on the link below and enter the information for the business you coordinate employment; or forward the link to the business’s contact person, who will enter the business’s information. The link is https://extradutysolutions.com/dekalb-county-pd-secondary-employment-vendor-worksheet.

Please be mindful that only approved businesses will be authorized as secondary employment locations. As such, it is imperative that we provide the information for the businesses currently being worked by our officers to the management company to provide uninterrupted service.

At no time should any DKPD employee contact the management company directly until we are online. All questions shall be directed through your chain-of-command. When we are online, the management company will provide contact information for the employees’ use.

More information will be available soon.

At Georgia Piedmont Technical College we looking to hire at least 1 officer probably 2 part time officer(s) 25-29 hours a week. The pay rate for officer(s) in good standing with Ga. Post is 25 dollars an hour. You get holidays off and we presently don't work Sundays or Morning watch. Our main campus is at 495 N. Indian Creek Drive with another campus in Covington, Ga, with satellite campuses in Lithonia and Rockdale. You can manage your own approved off duty jobs. If you feel like leaving Dekalb PD behind and start drawing your retirement while adding another source of income go to gptc.edu and fill out an application. Should be online by March 8th.

If you have any questions call me Mike Fannon 404-297-9522 Extension 1885

Here comes the Shit Show now....I'm sure someone is getting a kickback from this crap.

Sounds like socialism to me. Redistribution of jobs you may have had for your entire career. This ship is obviously sinking. Get out while you can

This is ridiculous! Is she trying to run the department into the ground and make every quality officer leave? I know some can't leave because they invested so much time (15+), but if you are under 5 years get MOVING! Get the quality training if you are able to attend but other than that why stay anymore.

Somebody needs to find out if it's the same company that miami dade pd uses. If it is then she's getting a KICKBACK. GEEZ LADY IF IT AINT BROKE THEN DONT FIX IT. This will cost the dekalb taxpayers and residents many many more officers. Several are already looking for other departments to go to.

According to the managements website, the scheduling costs go to the vendor. This is designed for last minute gigs, not ones you get paid at the end of the ej. Many jobs will now go to other agencies because they aren't willing to pay and these extra fees. Thank you Chief for your socialist BS.

I run an ej and I dont get paid extra for scheduling. This job will go away if additional fees are going to be added by some company. Smart move Chief as im sure there's gonna be many more jobs we lose. This is total BS

This BITCH is being paid too dollar! She doesn’t care about our pockets. First OT is cutout, now out part times! Come on now Director Lumpkin, did she get your approval before doing this? Or did she indeed break the chain of command? CEO Thurmond is this what you want for your officers? Why did you want her here? She needs to go,NOW! Pay her contract out and release her, she’s trash! This order needs to be rescinded. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. Officers spouses have lost their jobs, we have taken on extra jobs to make ends meet and she’s taking food from our children’s mouths. This has to stop, NOW!!!!! Some officers will turn to CORRUPTION!

Glad they are including the IRS tax forms at the end of the year..... It doesn't matter if you have less than 5 years or 15 plus years- leave. There are plenty of corporate security jobs out there for former LEOs. This doesn't mean wearing a security guard uniform either. It just means you have to be confident in the skills you've learned being LEO. There is nothing nicer than working 40 hours a week and not having to work 2-3 part time jobs to supplement your paycheck.

Sounds like one of those upper management/‘how dare you’,silent retribution tactics of yesterday years. Some other big agencies have gone to this. Seems like just another way the county pisses away money.Don’t think for a second the ‘payback time’ ain’t in the works. To bad somebody here doesn’t have a hook with somebody at her previous employ. Sounds like this may be her first time ‘to beat her chest’ being in charge. Regardless watch what you say,who you say it to,and where you say it. Sounds like she may be on a scalp taking hunt. C Y A. Like the song says, ‘when the right word goes in the wrong ear’, you are in deep s-it. I know this all to well because I retired from there years ago. 10-0 with that guy offering that p/t j2. He is a old fence rider. Hunker down. If enough officers go 10-8,she won’t be there long, All it’s going to take is 1 officer getting hurt,or nutting up because of the stress and exhaustion, and the county will be drilled with a ‘et all’ turbo lawsuit. Hunker down. You folks are still the best.

In her own words..."We understood that this change in policy would cause legitimate questions and concerns. That is why the implementation date was purposely set for May 1, 2021, to allow us to receive feedback before bringing the new system online"...."We want everyone to be heard and valued in this organization and I am committed to addressing all concerns as we roll out this new system"...... Did you hear what she said??....She doesn't give a rats ass about your concerns. This is going to happen regardless.... AS WE ROLL OUT THIS NEW SYSTEM....there she says it.....This system is going in place....love it or leave it. Just why in the hell does the County need to be involved in this? If I have extra J2 that's been my bread & butter for years then why do you feel the need to step your ass in and take that away....I've built that reputation with the business owners not "YOU" Ms Cardi B....well let me just tell you this....I'm not giving up my J2. So stick that up your BUTT.....Ms. Boogey in da BUTT.

What was the name of the company referred to in Fla., If anyone knows..... and doesn't have a problem posting it on here? Thanks... from someone who really cares!

Well this current administration will slowly ruin this department and no one will want to work here. They will get people wanting a pay check. I guess we need to look at the Defund the police movement as the next step with this department.

We are already grossly under paid. The idea of taking additional money during this pandemic is unacceptable and damn sure unreasonable. Someone in the chief's inner-circle should have warned there would be an immediate impact on morale and adventurely manpower. Extra jobs is how some officers bridge the gap with our lackadaisical salaries (lieutenant and below) Our top cop said she's trying to establish a fair process with extra jobs. Is it fair to take food and other benefits from my family because I sacrifice working an established extra job. To all my follow officers please try to refrain from calling the Chief names. Would you call her these names to her face? Let's remain united and professional through this process.

At Miami-Dade Police, the off-duty jobs were run in the District and posted inside the station. You bid for it and it went by seniority.
So senior guy got his 1st pick. Then the next guy got his pick.etc This was for PERMANENT off-duty jobs only (College/Publix/Walmart etc). It was rebid every year. TEMPORARY jobs went to those w/o a permanent job first then down the seniority list. It enabled everyone to get a job, if they wanted it. So, you could have a permanent job and work it 1 x a week while others might get 2-3 temporary jobs one week and nothing for a month. It was extremely fair. Large events (NFL, MLB, county fair etc) were handled by the Special Events Bureau and that was all via computer. This was open county wide to any officer and went by Rank Seniority for each event. Insurance is paid by the county via the vendor for all jobs. Off-duty pay and OT pay is also calculated into your retirement of the 5 highest years.
She had NO input on how it was run in Dade. She is only there in GA because she is a B/F.

Blue flu for a few days will get her attention.

Tell me how, as an outside observer of this, I should not conclude that what I'm reading here are the complaints of police officers who fear that this might expose their own corrupt acts? As in, line sergeants or lieutenants effectively running police employment agencies as their real job, with that revenue stream about to end?

Anonymous said...

Blue flu! Blue flu! Blue flu! Can we finally stick together fir a change! Let’s do it!! She can’t fire all of us!

Anonymous said...

As the outside person aka moron you really don't know what you are talking about. When you run off duty jobs for years then now there's a private company taking a cut to do the same thing.

Quit.

Best thing you will ever do for yourself.

Once you get out of there you will realize just how little they paid you. P-nuts......

And it aint that hard to replace a P-nut check.

The pay sucks, the pension sucks, the environment sucks, the management sucks, the BOC sucks, .....Now this? What are you doing there????? Id be Goodbye.......

Just give em a 2 week notice and walk.

Ummmm the pension doesn't suck. A lot better than a 401k from some of these squirrel departments
