Atlanta mayor looking to sweeten package to promote retention within the police department

Atlanta city councilman and Public Safety Chairman Dustin Hillis says the city needs to give police officers a 12 percent raise or risk losing some of the officers already on the force to higher-paying jobs.

Atlanta received a 23% raise three years ago, and that same year CEO Thurmond gave Dekalb what he called a significant #5 raise. But Dekalb also increased the cost of our insurance benefits so we did not receive a raise at all.

Anonymous said...

Dekalb is so underpaid and we pay more for our benefits than any other agency in the state.

if you are thinking about applying for Dekalb police for God's sake do not do it, this place will ruin your life. go to an agency that will appreciate your hard work and loyality.

I retired last year from Dekalb police and my life is so much better, but the sad thing is when I retired I was still not at my top out pay as a Master police officer. Don't get me wrong I am thankful for my 82.5 % pension but they do not of that pension any longer. it is very sad that you spend 30 years of hard work and being dependable and you cant reach top pay. I have since gone to work in the private sector and I started at 10% more than I was making with Dekalb and after 1 year I am making about 30% more now. if you can get out run as fast as you can. Dekalb has no future

DKPD is beyond repair. The department will never return to safe staffing levels at this point. Pay is terrible and the command staff doesn’t care because most of them can retire at any time. Every day you go to work, you risk getting injured or prosecuted. I really don’t understand why anyone is hanging on there, it’s passed time to jump ship. I held out as long as I could, I kept thinking “they have to do something soon”. I’m glad I left because it got way worse after I did. Stop wasting your time at DKPD.

Even the old pension is like a child's allowance given today's cost of living.

I'll say it again for the people in the back:
Nothing will change in this Department until we start taking a stand for ourselves. The BOC and CEO would have no bargaining power if we staged a walk out. As short staffed as we are, they can't fire us! And County Policy wouldn't allow them too anyways! Not to mention if our supervisors grow a set of balls and refuse to write us up for AWOL, we could really double down and make them listen. Worst case scenario is what? Written counseling?

Michael Thurmond and the commissioners do not care about the police, they know they can treat you however they want and you will continue to take it.

stop bitching about pay and benefits, if you are not going to fight or join together and take a stand then stop your bitching.

It's time to put up or shut up. Do we have backbones or are we just keyboard warriors? Time to find out.

FRIDAY, JULY 1, 2022 EVERYONE STAY AT HOME.

Call in sick or don't call at all, let's make our voices heard! BETTER PAY, BETTER BENEFITS AND SOME LEADERSHIP WITH BACKBONES ARE OUR DEMANDS.

I agree, Friday, July 1st Blue flue...pass the word don't be scared this is your future and your family's future and our safety. stand together and make a statement or stop complaining.

Anonymous said...

lets do this lets show the CEO and commissioners we are tired of the lies, i will be sick on July 1st

Anonymous said...

Let's get the FOP to send out emails to members and pass the word. everyone call in sick July 1st

Anonymous said...

The county cant suspend everyone and they cant stop you from using your earned sick time, call in July 1st

Anonymous said...

I challenge everyone to tell 10 officers each and to pass the word. ou want better benefits everyone call in July 1st

Anonymous said...

I hope this works I have my doubts but I will join the cause, I will take a sick day.

Anonymous said...

Supervisor here. I'm with yall. I'm sure they'll try to pressure you to come in but they can't deny sick time. Swing by a doc in the box and get a note if you want. And HIPPA restricts them from asking what's wrong. "I'm sick" is all you gotta say. Don't believe the lies they send down leading up to July 1.

Veterans, get your rookie officers on board. If our Chief really wants to earn our respect she'll stand beside us on this. Let's make them listen!

To all my other brothers and sisters with rank - stand up for your people and support them on this. Lead from the front. Don't fold and be a yes man, use your position to help this department!

It'd be better to just not show up and take an AWOL. If you say you're sick they could try and go after you for untruthfulness. First offense for AWOL is verbal/written counseling. Look it up yourself: 2-2.24

sick leave is earned time they can not tell you that you have to come to work. even if you do a zoom call or call a doctor that is all you need. let's stand strong, be strong and be heard. July 1st stay home.

jULY 1ST STAY HOME

Lt. bLUE HERE I can't write you up for not showing up or being sick, I support you in your efforts and I hope I am not feeling under the weather on July 1st to see what happens. But sometimes I do get a summer cold around that time of the year.

BLUE FLUE 07/01/2022

IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH: WE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS WHEN WE ARE UNITED.
WITHOUT UNITY WE ARE VICTIMS.
STAY STRONG STAY UNITED

I WILL NOT BE AT WORK ON JULY 1ST 2022

Anonymous said...

I hope the DeKalb officers will be strong and stand together I know if they do they will see results and get what they want, but if you do not do this and you fail to be united then you will never see any results because the CEO and Commissioners will know that you only bark and never bite.

Anonymous said...

this sword cuts on both sides, stay together and see the results fall apart and you will reap the consequences.

I will be at home on July 1st I challenge anyone who reds this blog or hears about July 1st to stay home as well.

Anonymous said...

i will spread the word as if were the gospel, July 1st Blue Flu

Sarg here...
And for the officers working morning watch on June 30 when your asked to work overtime because nobody showed upon day watch on July 1 showed up say....NO

Anonymous said...

For the ones that show up on July 1, you will feel work load 10 fold. You will get what you deserve. It's overdue for the working force to show we are serious about our situation. This county has phucked over many officers for years gotten away with it. It's time for the executive branch, command staff and citizens to understand we are serious! When the citizens feel the impact maybe they we support our cause.

Fly-Ass Tang Chasa said...

The FOP will not and cannot endorse a blue flu!

Anonymous said...

Pending calls going unanswered will be nothing new July 1. So back to business as usual July 2, then what? Now through the 4th of July might be noteworthy to media.

Anonymous said...

Those who try to discourage you or threaten you with disciplinary action for participating in this are part of the problem. Keep notes on those who don't support this. They are not your friends and they do not have your six.

Anonymous said...

Chief Ramos has said that she's tried to fight for better pay and better benefits but that the CEO and Commissioners are the problem. How she responds to this will reveal her true identity. C'mon Chief, support us on this! Let's put the ball in their court. Be our megaphone, stand by us and make them hear us!

Anonymous said...

This has to stop. Unsafe working conditions and low pay is unacceptable. Blue Flu.

Anonymous said...

this needs to be organized and well planned out. if you do not do this right it will be bad for officers now and in the future. if you want to be heard then you have to be organized

Anonymous said...

let's get organized and make this happen, its time the county does the right thing and give us better pay and better benefits.

Anonymous said...

I have talked to some officers who are not willing to do it, they are afraid of losing part-time jobs....they want others to stand and fight for them and they want the benefits of what we might get but they will not stand by our side and be heard....we have too many cowards that will back out

Anonymous said...

I will stand for the cause and I will not come to work on July 1st

Anonymous said...

Dnt worry, the cowards will be called out by name for not standing with us.

Anonymous said...

If you choose to show up to work on July 1, you are telling the Commissioners and the CEO that it's ok for them to continue to disrespect us and YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. I hope someone takes note of the watchlists for that day and they get posted on here. Time to root out the snakes in the grass!

Yo blogmaster, how about making this its own thread and reposting all comments from where they started. Let's get it out in the open for everyone to see. Don't hide!

Funny you guys mentioned not being able to work J2. The reason J2 is so important is because we are waaaaay underpaid. So here's a work around - if your J2 is before your normal shift, there's nothing preventing you from working it. If your J2 is a late night thing, don't log in until 12:01 am on July 2. If you have to adjust your hours to make it work, talk to your J2 employer and explain what's going on. We need the good citizens of DeKalb on our side. Think if the big picture here!
