Dekalb Police is in such a critical need for officers to work and help with answering calls, reducing crime, and working on investigation cases. The CEO and the BOC have approved any officer that will work overtime will be paid at a triple-overtime rate.

The county is willing to pay this astronomical amount of money in overtime but will not fix the real problem which is better pay and better benefits for its officers.

I will work the hell out of this overtime, but I will also call in sick on 07/01/2022...i stand strong on my support for better pay and benefits.

Anonymous said...

hell yes..my triple-overtime rate is $95 an hour and I am about to make a lot of money sgts will be making $120 and $130 an hour on overtime.

Anonymous said...

we need help and this was a good move by the CEO I will work as much as they allow me and put money away to go to a better department in the fall. does not fix my regular pay rate or benefits.

i will kill this overtime pay for as long as it last...Blue Flu 07/02/2022

at this rate the county can't afford to pay all this money for a long period of time, I will take advantage of it as long as it lasts. we still need to be paid better 20% raise across the board

Anonymous said...

You do realize OT doesn't come into play if you've taken leave right? This is simply to squash flu.

Anonymous said...

This is smoke and mirrors to distract you from July 1, 2022. They scared y'all! Hold strong! I'm still calling in sick on July 1.

Anonymous said...

This was announced by the Chief during the CompStat meeting yesterday. Apparently she started the meeting by saying, "So, does anybody want to address the elephant in the room?" Not one person said a thing. July 1 ain't no joke. It has caught fire and has already made an impact. Do t let this limited OT take the attention away from the fact that we are understaffed and underpaid. Blue flu July 1!!!

Anonymous said...

This is a way to try and stop the Blue Flue, don't let this distract us from what is important. We are fighting for our nd our futures, stand strong and stand together, call in on 07/02/2022

Anonymous said...

overtime is just temporary, a pay raise is for your career and your retirement.

Anonymous said...

i will take the triple-overtime until they give us better pay and benefits.

Anonymous said...

With triple over time officers are still being over worked and under paid. That is the worst thing to do is grant triple over time so the quality of life and still be poor for an officer. How about this… pay the correct fucking salary from the start better the benifits and allow officers to spend time with their family as well. Not chasing fucking money that’s gonna be taxed more and have officers still risking their ass for a shitty county that is going to hell.

Anonymous said...

Does the BOC work triple overtime? What a joke

Anonymous said...

a group of officers sent out an email to all of DeKalb county with options of better pay and better benefits, the two-phase pay raise of only 10% is unacceptable, every time they tell us it's a two-step phase we never see the second step or the second raise. And a %05 is not enough to get us on the same scale as the metro area police departments. we need a 20% raise in one step. they also never addressed the cost of benefits too much for our benefits are the highest in the state.

Anonymous said...

I saw the email it is a great idea but its not address the real problems...stay strong blue flu 07/01/2022

LOL @ "the two-phase pay raise of only 10% is unacceptable." So you ain't gonna take that money? GTFOH.

Listen fellas triple time is good money and a step closer to Chief Ramos’ pay scale who does nothing for it. So Ethel says rake it in while you can you damn sure deserve it these days. Be smart max you your deferred comp and get out asap.

Anonymous said...

You can write your own ticket (pun intended) in LE currently so why stay at the bottom of the barrel when every agency is begging for certified officers?

Anonymous said...

the email that was sent out about how to save Dekalb was a great email and freat idea. but whoever or the group of people who put it together either has a very short memory or does not work for Dekalb.
let's start with the 10% over two years, this county has shown on numerous occasions that they will give just a little hoping to keep us quiet and when it's time for the second rise or the other promise they fail to fulfill the promise or give us a raise.
The pay among officers is so screwed up because of the pay decompression over the years.
your email failed to mention the high cost of insurance and other benefits that we have to pay, Dekalb police pay more for benefits than any other agency in the state.
the retirement should be 82.5% or 72 %.
a two phase pay raise will not keep people here we need a 20% or more across the board and better bbenefits to happen now not in three months and not in two phases.

Anonymous said...

don't let the CEO and BOC entice you with triple overtime it is just going to last a month or two then we are right back to square one. stand strong Blue Flu 07/01/2022

Anonymous said...

That email took balls to send. All y'all complaining saying, "wE neEd A 20% raISe aNd betTTeR beNeFItS" are delusional. The email addressed the main problem we have at DKPD and provided REALISTIC solutions. Plus, it's just a start. So far we haven't got jack shit because the BOC don't give af about us. If y'all got a better, *realistic* solution, let's hear it. Regardless, we need to stand strong together on July 1. Make them hear us. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Anonymous said...

I work in Decatur and the word is they think the Dekalb officer's blog is behind the Blue Flu and they do not believe the officers are united or organized enough to have a Blu Flu.

Anonymous said...

no matter what a line has been drawn in the sand and if the Dekalb officers do not take a stand and follow through with the July 1st Blue Flu, then that just proves to the CEO and BOC that you are not and never will be united enough to make any type of stand or demands.
the officers lose any type of leverage they might have. this is a critical moment for your future and career, if you fail it will have an everlasting impact.

Anonymous said...

I believe the CEO and Boc now have the momentum because they know the officers are divided based on the new email from the other group trying to make compromises. they know they have won and can continue to bend the officers over on a daily basis.

I'm an aid in Decatur and I been here for a long time. We know yall have never been united and probably wont do a sick out or blue flu. But the boc ain't gonna do nothing until they get a ton of calls from the citizens complaining about how they call 911 and nobody comes. And that there aren't any cops working today. So stick together

Major Mears has sent out an email that all SOD are required to work Friday, July 1st, and have your complete uniform available to answer calls for the precincts if needed. I hope the officers in SOD will stand with us and not show up on July 1st, we are in this together if you don't support the cause shame on you. Wave them worried we can back down now, don't be one of those officers who want the benefits of the Blue Flu but are scared to take a stand.

Anonymous said...

I spoke to officer Krenshaw in SOD over the weekend and he stated he will not take a sick day he needs his part-time job...he is a veteran who bitches about the county all the time but refuses to do anything about it.

Anonymous said...

we have to stand strong and show the county that we are tired of the treatment and the low pay and high cost of benefits.

Anonymous said...

this is no place to point fingers we know who the cowards are and who will give in to the pressure from the supervisors, just stay strong and become united and let the ones who don't want to be a part of the solution continue to be part of the problem.

Anonymous said...

Mears has always been too afraid to lose his spot to actually stand up for his troops. Not surprised by his approach in the slightest.

But this isn't about individual officers, this is about improving DKPD as a whole. We need to stick together and fight as one. All eyes will be on us on Friday, ets not let each other down!

Better pay, better retention! 7/1/2022

I am still talking to officers that have not heard about the Blue Flu....if you want this to succeed you must get the word out you need to talk to other officers and explain to them that this is for their futures along with their families. we must make this stand and be united to show the CEO and Boc we are tired of the lies and abuse.

Anonymous said...

this is a dangerous game you are playing here, I am hearing the BOC is willing to call your bluff and when you fail they will step on your throats even more.

Anonymous said...

I will not work Friday, July 1st and I will get other officers to join me.

Anonymous said...

I have always supported public safety in Dekalb and actually wanted to be an officer, my destiny was elsewhere and I have worked in Dekalb with a private firm for years. I know some commissioners on a personal basis and expressed my concerns about this Friday. They are not concerned and stated the officers are not organized nor united in this. whatever happens Friday I wish you all the very best and please be safe.

Some officers are barely organized enough to hit a hot spot together or remember to get the oil changed in their unit, much less organize a “call out” together on 7/1/22. The ones that call out are the same ones that show up late, look sloppy, sit on calls, etc…
I get that changes need to be made with our pay and benefits but this isn’t how you do it.
Make yourself look presentable, be thankful you’re employed, and show up for work.

Anonymous said...

It seems to me that it is counter productive to say you are going to Blue Flue sick out for one day and then say you are going to pickup the slack for lack of manpower and work all of the triple time overtime that you can.

DeKalb County will not care if you sick out. However, all you will be doing is putting the officers that do work in jeopardy because you will not be there to back them up. Most of the officers will not sickout.

I was there 30 years and heard Blue Flu threats my entire time working. It never happened.

It used to be time in the pension was one thing that kept officers at DKPD but the pension for the new guys is a joke. The other thing that kept officers there was being part of one of the best police departments in the country. Pay and benefits wise DKPD sucks. Training and professionalism amongst the line level troops and most of the immediate supervisors still exceeds much of the metro area in my opinion.

If you are so dissatisfied with DKPD, find someplace else to work. North Fulton police departments are recruiting heavily. Below is an article from WSB TV:

June 20, 2022 at 6:36 pm EDT
NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police departments in North Fulton County are in competition to hire new officers.

One is about to travel north to New Jersey to recruit, while another is increasing salaries across the board for both existing and incoming officers.

“We’re competing against one another, and here in North Fulton we’ve got a number of tremendous law enforcement agencies with this narrowing pool of qualified candidates,” said Roswell Police Chief James Conroy.

But he doesn’t think he’ll have any problem filling 12 open positions thanks to nearly $2 million just approved by the mayor and City Council last week.

Starting July 1, Roswell police will bump pay by 20%, making them the highest paid in metro Atlanta.

The move comes after Sandy Springs did the same thing last year.

The increase will make starting salaries for incoming officers with no experience and just a high school diploma $58,553, while an officer with at least five years experience and a four-year college degree starts at $71,635 a year, based on an 84-hour pay period and working 12-hour patrol shifts.

“I want to hire as many as we can,” said Alpharetta police Capt. Jakai Braithwaite, who will travel with a team next month to New Jersey to recruit in the New York City metro area. “We’re trying to get ambitious, get proactive, and think outside the box.”

Growing up in the area, Braithwaite is using his connections there not just to hold a job fair or attend a career day — Alpharetta police will hold full testing, medicals and interviews on-site so they can hire new officers on the spot.

“(I’m) selling my organization to you: ‘Please come be a police officer here.’ But I’m also selling this beautiful city,” he said.

But in Roswell, money talks. And that seems to be working.

The chief said after the increase in pay passed Monday, by Friday the department had received 60 new police officer applications

I love the ones who are saying, "BlUE fLu ISn'T tHe ANswEr. iF yOU DoN't lIKe iT HerE JuST leEAVe."

Really? That's your wisdom? Everyone taking one day off to fight for a better department is worse than the mass exodus of officers who have left for better paying LEO jobs?

The goal here is to not only keep the officers we have but to recruit quality officers to join us like Brookhaven, Roswell and Stockbridge have done (and will continue to do).

But the process isn't an overnight process. I wish the blogmaster would post the email that was sent out because it addressed real problems and had real solutions. No, it wasn't a huge raise upfront but it was doable...and something to build on. Y'all forget that we just got a 6% raise. Add to it another 10% and we're at least in the ballpark with other agencies pay-wise. That's a win for now.

I fully support the Blue Flu but I support it for attainable solutions to the problems that we face right now. "Go work somewhere else" is not a solution for DKPD. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

For everyone who thinks a Blue u won't work, check your email. Both Chief Ramos and Pappy Lumpkin have sent out a list of "things the CEO and BOC has done" for us.

We have their attention. They are afraid. This is another attempt to keep us from.being heard.

Our hiring pay is still the lowest in metro Atlanta. The COVID funds "they gave us" were Federal funds given to the majority of First Responders nationwide, it cost DeKalb nothing.
Same with the $1,000 Governor's bonus (which was a week later than promised). An increase to their contribution to the 401K? It's a terrible retirement option...not to mention you can take your 401K to a higher paying department who will.contribute even more (it's math, trust me). 3X OT will have an end date and is not a solution to us being understaffed and overworked. The $3000 bonus that was given in July of last year had strings attached (that they made you sign for a week after they gave you the bonus). 90% of what they're bragging about are the result of a pandemic in which they received Federal funds. You can't take credit for spending someone else's money!

There was nothing mention in those emails of anything concrete that will improve our department and make officers want to stay here. Don't believe the illusion. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Stay strong. Stay committed to July 1. We have already made an impact. Blue flu 7/1/2022.

The DKPD website begins with the following statement:

"Come join our team and help us move FORWARD TOGETHER!"

We are losing officers to better paying departments because DKPD have no incentives to retain what little officers they do have. Major changes need to be made to stop the bleeding.

We need to "move FORWARD TOGETHER" on July 1. Don't give in to any idle threats of disciplinary action. We know County policy and they know that and are afraid.

So, promises that DeKalb will be “among the best paid” police departments in the state. Hmmm. Who gets to decide what constitutes “among”? Reminds me a lot of an email that was sent on a Friday teasing an announcement of a “significant”‘pay raise.
Empty promises.

Anonymous said...

One thing is for certain, two things for sure. Police can’t keep their mouths shut! This Blue Flu should’ve only been between officers, NOT supervisors. Trust and believe there are some supervisors, pretending to be onboard but they’re NOT! Now they’ve placed officers who are off on call, to report to work on Friday. Move in silence next time and don’t give the upper echelon time to prepare.

As a retired DKPD officer and now an outsider, if you manage to organize a "Blue Flu" that makes a significant impact on the county, it will be the first time that it has ever been done. Not that it would matter to anyone but, I would be impressed at your organizing abilities and being structured enough to make your bosses and the politicians sweat.
I feel sorry for fine officers at DKPD that wear the badge and gun. The people that are making the decisions on your pay, benefits, etc. don't have to risk their lives on the mean streets of DeKalb with inadequate backup and don't have to work every extra job they can find just so they are able to provide a decent standard of living for their family.
In the past we thought we had them by the bal@# with federal court lawsuits, info leaked to the news(with facts to back the allegations) about corrupt leadership along with corrupt politicians, and there were other attempts to "get the county's attention". Small changes were accomplished but the changes usually helped on group of people and hurt another group. Not much else came of it other than the county spending millions of dollars to fight the lawsuit and they were masters at covering up bad press regarding leadership and politicians.
I wrote the comment about leaving and going to another agency. If you are going to run on emotion, with no plan other than a mass sick out for one day, you will most likely be unsuccessful and you probably should move to what you perceive as greener pastures.
It makes no sense to say that you are going to “Blue Flu” for one whole day and then pick up the slack caused by lack of manpower when you work all the triple overtime that you can. One day of "Blue Flu" will easily be covered by the officers that do work, supervisors that are ordered to handle calls, and it will be easy enough to get the DKSO to help with calls. It will take much cooler heads than I see on this blog site to bring DeKalb County to the negotiating table.
Feel free to criticize my viewpoint. I only offer a perspective that comes from a past experience of 30 years at DKPD. I have no skin in the game other than an admiration for the DKPD officers that wear the badge and gun and somehow manage to provide an amount of safety for the decent citizens against the predators that roam the streets. I wish you luck with your struggle!

Other agencies are taking action to raise pay. Our CEO is teasing a secret plan. We need specifics. We fell for the substantial raise lie a few years ago. 4% is a raise but not a substantial one when other agenciesare giving more than double that.

Anonymous said...

I've been with DKPD for 20 years and a supervisor for 10. I've talked to several other supervisors at different precincts about tomorrow and asked their thoughts. I've heard the same response from almost all of them in reference to whether or not tomorrow will actually happen: They need to do it, but I doubt they will.

You have to be brave to stand up to the everyday evil on the streets of DeKalb. Don't trade in that courage for complacency when it comes to standing up for yourselves.

Tomorrow will affect everyone so please be united - not just Uniform but CID, NET, Soec Ops. They won't truly appreciate you until they see what it's like without you.

I believe in all of you. Believe in yourselves. YOU are DKPD...not the CEO, not the COO, not the BOC.

I really hope that some people see that in the eyes of some people (citizens and politicians) They do not want or need law enforcement (rising violent crimes/ murders). Keep looking to better your own situation. Find another agency, professional or even retire. They keep lying about the number of officers and crime. Also if they throw out a small raise does it fix the underlying issues with the Department or the County Commission.

Dekalb does pay more for medical insurance than any agency in the state. So the CEO is lying about better benefits in the metro area.

The truth is, it's not just a pay issue. Ramos has created a hostile work environment. She gets off on treating people like shit. This blue flu wouldn't be happening if wasn't for how she treats people.

I'm scheduled to work DW tomorrow but after seeing the lies from Thurmond and the total lack of care from Ramos, I'm calling out. I hope my other DW brothers and sisters do the same so we can set the example for the other watches.

Does Ramos even believe what she says anymore?

The only person the CEO cares about is himself. Blue flue 7/1/22.

IM STANDING WITH MY DKPD FAMILY TODAY

4-6 units only at South Day watch today. 4-6 called out.

Anonymous said...

Only 3 showed up at South! Stay strong, it's happening!

How is this blog quiet after all of this ? Seems like everyone was all talk.

Anonymous said...

I’ve heard the flu flopped.

Anonymous said...

South followed through. But truth is no one cares about calls pending on the South end of town. For our voices to be heard we really need Officers at Tucker and North\Central to come through.

Very interesting that they aren't updating the blog today.

I heard Operation Blue Flu was a flop. Anyone heard different?

three years ago when Atlanta was asking for a raise and better benefits they had over 175 officers call in sick for two days in a row, they came together and were united and made a statement....they received a 22% pay raise after that.
Dekalb cant unite and they just fell flat on their faces, we have lost any type of leverage that we had. so please do not complain about your pay and benefits anymore. if you can not unite to make a statement and you allow them to intimidate you then you get what you deserve. I will stick it out for the next three years and leave with my 82.5. I can handle one call at a time and take my time doing so.

wow....that was not impressive at all from all the smack talk you guys were doing here.....weak results equals no respect from the CEO and the BOC

Anonymous said...

supply is issuing out saddles for the Dekalb officers...because now the CEO and the BOC are going to ride you like a pony....

Anonymous said...

Ceo was Quoted who is your "DADDY".....now all the officers will respond and say you are sir..LMAO

Anonymous said...

you had the opportunity to make a stand and you failed miserably....you do not deserve a raise get used to being abused.

I appreciate those of you who stayed away, in an attempt to show your displeasure with this county government. The remaining none supervisory officers that showed up basically said, "Yes, Mr.CEO I appreciate your 5% alledgely increase and don't worry about the insurance premiums increasing, work load, and the lack of a pension." Please don't worry about the moral, yes we will take whatever you give us! Thank you Mr. CEO and the mighty BOC.

The CEO and the BOC will have a great holiday weekend, not working knowing they make a lot of money and knowing they control all of Dekalb county....they should wear their finest pimp clothes and walk around Dekalb slapping the bitches who actually thought they could make a difference.

Anonymous said...

I'm proud of you young folk. That's it..that's all.

Anonymous said...

the line in the sand was drawn and no one made a difference, the bully kicked the sand right back in your face......do not ever ask for anything again or complain about anything again

Anonymous said...

South the only ones holding it down as usual

Anonymous said...

Pretty much the same result as the ticket slow down or short lived union…DKPD never had the camaraderie to
pull together for the greater good.

I was told officers at NC was threatened if they called out, they would be ostracized and unable to move up in rank or CID for future endeavors due to calling out today. Also threatened to not be able to take advantage of the 3x overtime if they called out this date. Sickening to hear.

And now to add insult to injury prepare to add a suspension day to your sick day.

Anonymous said...

you cant be suspended for taking a sick day that you have earned the time for...tho only way they can do that is if they have counseled you for abusing your sick time in the past already... please be informed of the policy and procedures before you spew your untruth

Anonymous said...

i was neither for nor against the Blue Flu....but the fact is if you try to make a statement or a stand and it is not well organized and well documented then when you fail, it just makes what you are fighting for not seem that important especially to the people you are trying to make the statement to

Without unity we will never accomplish anything! We have new officers who believe this is not their fight! Anyone affected by our decrease in man power has their place in this fight. Whether you want to actually make a difference, thats up to you. You also have older officers who don’t care to support this movement because they are close to retirement. Again, no unity no progress! DKPD will continue to be a revolving door for officers to get good training and move on to a better department.
