The Board of Commissioners has approved an additional step increase in pay. Officers who have topped out in their pay grade will see up to a 5% raise after their next yearly evaluation (after July 1, 2008). Please do not confuse this with a 5% across the board raise, it's not.
Only officers with the rank of Master Patrol Officer thru Captain will receive the step increase.
The Taser and in car camera issue has been postponed INDEFINITELY by the B.O.C. without resistance of Chief TeBo.

And so the pay disparity continues. There are still too many subordinate officers making more than their supervisors. This will again compound the problem. As an example the majority of the recently promoted sergeants make apporx. 15K a year less than some MPO's they supervise! And thats probably on the low side. Yes time in rank should mean something but come on!! This was simply another ploy that the BOC and Chief can point to and tell the public they have given the department a raise. Sure if you're a fairly new employee with say less than 15 years service you'll benefit from this in ohhh about 20 years with your 2-4% annual increase. Rediculous!!!!
Well it looks like Joe Stone the Merit system Director presented a plan to the BOC for raises for Police and Fire. The BOC approved the 5 percent merit raise for Police and Fire. The rank of Captain down to police officer will received this raise. It will become effective July 2008. If you are at your top pay grade you will received 4 percent as max at your next evaluation and then a 1 percent the following year, this was a Vernon plan of long ago. He stop the 5 percent annual merit raise to save the county money. If you are not top out, it will be another merit step to your pay grade. This is not a bad deal. The BOC still supports Police and Fire. We just have to wait and see who will be the next CEO and the leadership he will provide us. The bottom line is LEADERSHIP to carry this department into the future.
All of the commissioners voted favorably for the step increse. The cost to the county about $400k. Please be aware of the commissioners, and yes Vernon, who supported the 4% across the board AND the 4% merit increase for all Police and Fire.
It is an election year.
