Spiritual Support

It seems Bolton’s preacher posse has started to move into their offices in all 5 of the precincts. According to the DeKalb County Police Newsletter dated April 1, 2008, participates attended a 40 hour block of instruction how to support and benefit officers.
Various religions are represented; Non Denominational, Baptist, Catholic and Muslim.
Hmmm….Jews need not apply?

Maybe they didn't have any Jewish volunteers? I was actually rather impressed by the fact that they allowed people beyond just the Baptist contingent. I wasn't aware that these people were being paid at all. I know it breaks the whole hard police officer image and all, but I have a hard time getting really worked up about having pastors in the precincts. I think it could be good for some.

Maybe they didn’t ask a Jewish volunteer?
I’ll get worked up when they issue out prayer rugs and having prayers piped through the intercom at headquarters.
If the Muslim should lead a prayer in roll call, what will TeBo do to the Gentile or Jew that walks out, or vise versa?
Having religion in the work place is dangerous.

It's not about the "hard" police officer image. The police chaplain is a time honored tradition in most larger departments. The problem arises when those positions begin to exert their influence or have power over certain aspects of the department. Established positions are already being asked to move out of their offices to make way for these positions. Sorry but I see this as another layer of power and influence being established by a corrupt regime. Chaplain Carter and Monsignor are honorable men and should be honored for the service they provided.
