Hey, Inside Man…. I would encourage you to join our working committee; you then will at least have correct information to disseminate. Our committee meetings are open to everyone, not just residents of Dunwoody, there are no secrets or hidden agendas. We are taxpaying residents, who for the most part live in Dunwoody, who are volunteering our time to produce a working document which will facilitate the starting of a police department for the City of Dunwoody as rapidly and as cost effectively as possible, if, and only if, on the 15th of July 2008 the taxpayers vote to incorporate. The operative words here are "working committee."
As a co-chair for the operational committee for the Police Department, I can tell you any decisions as to salary, manpower, ect., will be made by the City Council, which in turn will be based on the recommendations of the Chief of Police. Our committee has been tasked to produce a document which should reduce the Council and Chief's need to stay up burning the midnight oil deciding what kind of a police department will best work for the citizens of Dunwoody and at what cost. Similar committees have worked well for the other new cities created in Fulton County since 2005.
As of this posting, Monday, May 5, 2008 we have yet to put pen to paper, as we are still in the fact finding mode with one site visit already completed and two more scheduled. Therefore, for you to say we have already made recommendations as to end strength (manpower) and salaries, you are incorrect to say the least. Regarding your "inside information" on the selection of officers to be assigned to the north precinct for the City of Dunwoody police department, I would dare say you are way off base again since you presume to know who the Chief of Police is already and his or her hiring decisions. The same holds true for the City Manager rumor you are spreading although at the salary you quoted I have to believe that even Vernon would have to reconsider his bid for the U.S. Senate.
Inside Man, when our committee has crossed all of the Ts and dotted all of the Is to the best of our ability, our written recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council for review, which in turn, along with whoever they hire as Chief of Police for consideration. If you have anything to add to these recommendations, I would encourage you to invest your time and energy as we are doing and join our committee. We are an equal opportunity force of reason. We believe there are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. Perhaps you could be both. We would welcome your participation.
Co-Chair for Operations
HEY GADGET...I WAS JUST GIVEN THAT INFORMATION FROM A PERSON THAT IS ON YOUR COMMITTEE. IF THOSE SALARY NUMBERS ARE WRONG AS WELL AS THE TAKE HOME CAR, ETC....ILL COME FIND YOU AND TAKE YOU TO DINNER ANYWHERE YOU WANT. WE WILL SEE IN A FEW MONTHS. OF COURSE YOU WILL PROBABLY STOP POSTING WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT IM GETTING THIS INFORMATION FROM SOMEONE ON YOUR COMMITTEE. 25 OFFICERS AND PATROLMAN STARTING AT $42,000?? NO THANKS! IVE SEEN THE PROPOSAL GADGET AND IF YOU HAVE TOO THEN WHY ARE YOU SAYING THAT THESE NUMBERS ARE NOT TRUE? IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE PROPOSAL FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO ASK ONE OF THE 6 MEMBERS (HINT HINT) OR THE CHAIR OF THE ADMIN AND FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE.LIKE I SAID GADGET I HAVE SEEN THE PROPOSAL KEY WORD HERE....PROPOSAL...DUNWOODY HASNT EVEN BECOME A CITY YET, WE...I MEAN...IT HAS A LONG WAY TO GO. THANK TWICE BEFORE YOU POST GADGET, MY NAME IS INSIDE MAN FOR A REASON.
No offense Gadget but no one is even going to come work for Dunwoody starting at $40,000...but the real killer is a 5 on 2 off work schedule that is apparently on the proposal, and trust me "insideman" is not the only one that Ive heard those numbers from. If you are indeed the co-chair of for the Dunwoody PD may I make a suggestion that you start officers at $50,000 and make it a 4/3 or a 4/4 work schedule, but it seems like you guys have the idea about giving take home cars out down! Best of luck!
