It is hard not to think, there are people sitting in some crack smoke filled darken room in Decatur, just sitting around thinking of ways to destroy our morale and have people seek employment elsewhere.
Once again, the Commissioners want to drop health insurance coverage by Blue Cross/Blue Shield and United Healthcare. They also intend to drop Blue Cross Dental and Vision Care. This will effect all employees, not just police.
It is time once again to contact all your family and friends and rise up against the Commissioners and their lunacy thinking. This proposed attack on our benefits will be closely monitored and new information will be posted.

The last glimmer of hope for this police department is benefits. They start dropping choices of health insurance and the place will shut down. They have not seen a walk out until they mess with our benefits.
Next they'll tell us to lock our guns up at the precinct cause they're dangerous and someone might get hurt! This place gets better and better every day. It's departments like this that contribute to the sad statistics linking police officers and suicide.
Okay....this is nuts....didn't they try to drop Blue Cross last year?
I thought the reason for the drop was to increase the number of people under the same plan in order to give them leverage when negotiating rates.
If the employees want Blue Cross, close out the other plans and put everyone under BC! Then you have the leverage in numbers that they are looking for.
Ahh...is it too much to hope that they know what they are doing? The only reason I have coverage through the county is because they have my doctors!
Prepare yourselves for the blizzard of emails that will choke the county email system! This will make the county wide "I found some keys in the Maloof Bldg Parking Lot" emails look sane.
Why even bother. The county, TeBo and the commission have demonstrated time and again that the LAST thing they are concerned about are the police officers. I think it's time again to start talking about a sick-out or refusal to answer any calls but valid 911 life threatening calls. They can't fire every officer.
I think now would be an opportune time to talk to your newly elected CEO. He ran his entire campaign on raises and retention of the police Department. He still has position on the BOC until January. Give him an opportunity to show his "consensus building" skills in preventing the other Commissioners from cutting your benefits.
A sick out might make a powerful statement for you all, would not likely change commissioners minds and could potentially be detrimental to individual officers and likely citizens.
I wish our leaders could get their heads out...of wherever they are to see what they are doing to our community.
Thank you DKPD for all you do and especially your presence here.
Note from dekalbofficers.com: This blog will never support a "sick out" or "blue flu", but if the need arises, it will support some other means of "outcry".
Im tired of getting all the bs emails with concerned county employees about insurance... I have been here two years and even I am smart enough to understand that noone of us county employees have any kind of say. The county will do what it wants and we will just suffer. So stop with the forwarded emails please.
Track, if it weren’t for people like the ones sending the emails, you would not enjoy the benefits you have now. It may not be the best, but try to find better in benefits anywhere in this line of business.
These same people are fighting for you just as much as themselves. If it is truly in your heart to lie down and let the county take every advantage it can of us, then I suggest a change of heart.
If you are not serious about your career, then may I suggest you find another one. Police business is serious, and some of us take it that way. If you don’t want to join the fight, then enjoy the ride on our backs with your mouth shut!
wexi... agreed, benefits are important, which the county isnt understanding is that its hard enough for this agency to keep its police officers, especially when the neighboring agencies offer health/dental insurance with the same benefits for next to nothing..
check with Lawrenceville, Gwinnett, Snellville, even Rockdale I believe. Do we really think that these posts go noticed by our command staff? yea let me call up the CEO and tell him im not happy, things will change then. Its getting to the point Dekalb Police Officers are embarassed to say where they work, whats next? lets trade in our police vehicles for bicycles? it will save gas!
Yes these post are read and noticed by the Command Staff and Bolton. Word is Bolton spews something out about the blog every Compstat meeting he rarely attends. These post are read by the media, not only in Atlanta, but nationwide. Very soon the blog will take credit for saving the citizens of DeKalb County 10's of thousands of dollars. We will make a difference.
I HOPE BOLTON READS THIS: MANY OF US REALLY CAN'T WAIT TO YOU LEAVE. IF YOU DID NOT KNOW, LET ME BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOU, YOU SHOULD TAKE SOME OF YOUR COMMAND STAFF AND GO BACK TO YOUR HOLE. YOU HAVE TRULY SCREWED THIS PLACE UP.
