Proposed changes in health care benefits update

Any changes to our health care plan have been differed until the next commissioners meeting which is Tuesday August 26, 2008 at 09:00.
It was suggested by several members of the B.O.C. including (I’m fixin’ to be unemployed with TeBo, Vernon Jones) that more information about the proposed changes be distributed to all 8000 (not including retirees) DeKalb County employees. After listening to the mind numbing meeting, it appears they will agree on some type of “hall meeting” at more than one location at various times of the day to make it easy for as many employees as possible to attend. The Maloof Building and the Voter Registration buildings were suggested.
A contact person is to be appointed by each department who is versed in the proposed changes. Also, information on how to contact each representative of the different insurance carriers is to be provided.
The board admitted not enough information was distributed in a timely manner last year (2007) to make a decision on making changes to our health care benefits, which they claim cost the taxpayers approximately 1 million dollars. They are determined to make a decision this year and there will be changes.
Commissioner Rader stated his office has not received many calls related to this. From his mannerism, one could believe he is going to vote to drop Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
It is important that you call, write or email each commissioner and voice your concerns.
More details will be posted as they are learned.

The sad part is, most of the Commissioners and Dr. Bell's attitudes appeared to be "it won't affect that many people and it doesn't affect me" so we'll make the change attitude.

If it was their kid or family member who needed a specialist or they had to pay more, you bet there wouldn't be a change.
