News From The Gas Pumps

Promotions

Bolton announced the following promotions:
Captain M. Yarbrough to Major/Commander of Tucker Precinct
Captain C. Craddock to Major/Commander Narcotics-Vice
Lieutenant A. Ramey to Major/Commander, Vernon’s Drivers……say what?

That’s right; yet another Vernon Jones driver promoted from Lieutenant to Major. Others include Deputy Chief Don Frank and Major Curtis Williams. You cannot make this stuff up. The favoritism and back slapping continues full throttle.

To quote Keisha “Margarita” Williams: “It is an exciting day for the department as it continues to move towards a “New Start, New Beginning.” You mean Bolton has not even started yet? Good God help us! Where is Gaither's preacher posse when you need them?

North Precinct/Dunwoody

A total of 84 officers have graduated from the past 2 academies. Absolutely zero, a big fat 0 have been assigned to the North Precinct. Is Bolton punishing the City of Dunwoody? You bet yah! Doesn’t he care about the other taxpaying citizens in the northern end of the county? Nope! Is this not neglect on Bolton’s part? Is he showing his indifference to the large Latino community in North Precinct? Remember, he did have that little problem with the Latinos in Dallas, something like litigation from the 2001 fake-drug scandal that cost the city millions.

Another Specialized Unit

As you may recall, Deputy Chief Waddleton, a.k.a. Austin Powers, formed a District 2 “NET” team, pulling 6 badly needed officers from answering 911 calls and backing up other officers to run around District 2 doing God knows what. (Doesn’t each precinct already have a “NET” team and 10 ICP officers with take home cars?) Anyway, Colonel Klink, a.k.a. Deputy Chief Horner now has his own District 1 “NET” team. You guessed it, pulling 6 more officers from answering 911 calls and backing up other line officers. (Wait, doesn’t each precinct have a “NET’ team and 10 ICP officers with take home cars?)

Terminations

It is alleged Major Denson’s secretary has some secrets in her past, so dark are they; even Bolton could not protect her. Word is she has been terminated.

The Madness Continues.

To the Officers of the DKPD:

I am one of the few left from the old guard. After 20 plus years I can hardly speak about the department in public. I am so disgusted with Bolton; I get sick to my stomach. When he was hired two years ago, I gave him a chance. After Graham and Flemister we needed direction and guidance. Bolton came in very confident and talked a big game. I thought he might 'do the right thing'...I was wrong. He has done everything wrong....very wrong.

Bolton arrived with an outlandish plan to spend millions of taxpayer’s dollars. It was and is a bold plan that should have been done over the past 15 years.(Yes, a large part of our infrastructure problems today go back to Tom Brown) But, Bolton committed political suicide with his plan and Vernon Jones knew all along it would not pass the commission.

In the meantime, Bolton had no plan to combat and reduce crime. The reason Bolton had no plan goes back to Dallas, TX. He had no plan in Dallas either. The reason he had no plan is because he doesn’t know how to combat crime at a precinct level. Bolton was promoted from Sergeant to Deputy Chief at Dallas. He missed years of experience to properly administer and lead a large number of police officers. In other words Bolton is inexperienced as a crime fighter and commander.

I said all that to say this: Hang in there. There is light at the end of the tunnel and the gravy train is getting ready to come to a screeching halt.

When I came to the department in the 1980's this was the best police agency in the South East. We were one of the first in the nation to have in-car computers. We had the best guns, best equipment, best training and fast cars. We were feared by the criminals. We demanded respect and by God we got it.

LAPD, NYPD and others have gone through the same turmoil. Folks, we will prevail. We are career DEKALB COUNTY POLICE OFFICERS. We will still be here when they all pack their trash.

When they all leave, it will be like New Orleans after Katrina: Decimated. But we will rebuild and be stronger then before.

Keep the faith brothers and sisters as we are RP (Real Po-Lice) and Bolton et al can never take that away.

Where's the media during all this?

Where's Dave Simpson, the "beat reporter" for the AJC?

Doesn't anyone realize there is a Pulitzer just waiting to be picked up?

Where's Channel 46, Channel 2...etc?

Why haven't we seen video of officers standing around waiting for cars at the beginning of the shift?

Isn't there a young reporter who wants to make his or her mark on Atlanta?....Dagmar is tearing up the weather side....isn't there a Dagmar on the reporting side of things?

Frustrating....

Do I have to do their job also?

Proposed Story lines -

Vernon's Drivers appointed.....while Sgt. positions go unfilled....

Officers who want to get out on partol sit and wait......

POST does nothing to keep standards in the face of publicly exposed violations......GCIC/NCIC Use.....

Millions wasted on RV's.......

Dekalb Murder Rate on track.....

Dekalb Officers in Expired Vests...

Many Dekalb Officers no longer regularly practice shooting due to the loss of the centrally located indoor range...

Dekalb Officers leave in record numbers.....

Dekalb Police lowers standards for new recruits......

Gangs signs abound at Graduation...

Millions spent on computer system that is always down.....

Dekalb Patrol cars equipped with dated computers that are failing...

Dekalb Officers use personal cell phones to speak with detectives because the radio system is substandard...

Dekalb first to introduce cutting edge radio system.....last to be still using it.....

The list could go on...

LIKE I SAID, WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION! I ADVISE FOR ALL TO CONTACT OR SEND AN ANONYMOUS E-MAIL TO ELLIS, BOYER, AND RAYDER. AS QUOTED BY ELLIS:

"As always, you can phone me at home to discuss any issue concerning DeKalb County. My phone number is 770-469-5948. Or email me at Burrell@BurrellEllis.com. I listen."

LET'S TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS CHANCE AND CALL. IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING NOW THIS DEPARTMENT WILL FALL FURTHER BEHIND AND WE CANNOT AFFORD THAT RIGHT NOW.

Didn't Don Frank get caught by the GBI for using dept. computers to check on his ex and her boyfriend? Didn't he have multiple domestic dispute charges against him? Arrogant scumbag is too nice of a term to describe him.

I believe the misuse of GCIC/NCIC was the reason the FBI wasn't too happy with his appointment as the head of Homeland.

A former Dekalb Officer who now works for Sandy Springs told me they packed up their toys and went home.

How do I get on the list to become Vernon's next driver?

I haven't heard any announcements in roll call for a specialized position as driver.

I'm a hard charging officer who really wants to have an impact and to move up rapidly. This appears to be the fastest route to the top.

Appointed promotions are just what they are! Your appointed one day and demoted the next. The after effects is causing this department to self destruct. It all starts at the top as we all know.
Now look at the promotions on the flip side. Newly promoted Sargeants that have been with this department for 5 years. A good patrol officer should be increasing their chances to be promoted by completing intermediate and advance courses in those (5) years. Do you think a (5) year Sargeants have completed the courses?
The critera for promotions in this department obviously has diminished!
Get (3) Sargeants signatures to be eligible, not under any investigation for wrong doing, or suspension in the last 36 months, and evals above 3.0.
Are you kidding me!!! What about that patrol officer who has completed all their intermediate and advance courses, been recognized whether with Precinct or Department commedation, writes reports, jumps calls and handles them professionally, and maintains above a 3.0. Why are these officers not promoted? Our whole promotional for Sargeant's needs fined tune up.
Instead, there are Sargeants who are getting promoted with no intermediate or advance courses, no commedations, failes to write reports (it's easier), drives by a call dispatched, etc...
Our FTO program is getting tuned up. Thanks Lt. for trying...but stop allowing rookies train rookies. Hey, I have an idea... to become a Sargeant maybe this should be added as a criteria. Not to be mention some experience!
I can go on and on and on but those that read this realize it's all for not. Do I feel better...not really. Until something can be accomplished positive in the direction this department desparately needs, promotions are earned and not given, we are all writing and fighting a lost cause.

Is it just me or did anyone else see that on the last blue order there is an Officer (badge #2839, who just got off of F.T.O) that was transferred to Special Operations? What's going on with that? I thought that you had to be a patrol officer for 2 years before you could transfer to a specialized unit?

I didn't notice that, but the last person to be sent to Special Ops straight off FTO is now working for Target. She couldn't ride a motor if her life depended on it.

Once Flemister was removed, she lost her benefactor and went to the field as a 4 or 5 year rookie that needed to go through an informal FTO program. It wasn't a good thing back then either.

I have been with the department for almost 5 years and I can't imagine trying to become a sgt. I am a senior officer on my watch and that stinks. I used to be able to call on other senior officers on my watch and get advice. Now all I have to look forward to is a rookie sgt, who's only been here a year longer than me. Then they want me to help train someone. Well im just now catching on myself. The hiring standards have definitly been lowered. One of the new recruits told me that he was turned down first, and then they called him back to come in for an interview. Wow!!!!!!!!
