Not only does the sheriff's department carry Tasers, now they have video cameras in their cars. The cameras were purchased with seized drug funds.
Wait, didn't Tebo say it is illegal to use seized drug funds for items such as cameras and Tasers? Either Sheriff Brown is breaking the law, or Bolton is a liar. We're guessing Bolton is a liar.

I also hear Sheriff Brown wants to hire another 20-25 Dekalb Officers.
I don't know....Decisions Decisions....on the one hand I can continue working for a department that has out dated computers, not enough patrol cars, no tasers,no leadership, etc.... or jump to Dekalb SO where I can keep my current pension.
Hmmmmmm............
Priorities....non-lethal devices to cut down on injuries (to both officers and suspects) and the lethal use of force vs. "mobile precincts" that are nothing more than billboards on wheels.
Officer Safety vs. command staff comfort and image.
Just a window into the command staff thinking and why so many officers were waiting on new vests to replace their expired vests.
I would not be upset if the Ellis Administration decided that DKPD will cease to exist and we all become road deputies in January.
I would wait till after January 2009 to make that decision.
Sheriff's can use drug seized money different from what Chief's are allowed to use the funds. I'm researching to see if that is correct.
Will someone please explain the logic of equipping the DeKalb Sheriff's Office cars with video equipment, when the Sheriff's Office doesn't enforce the law, and not equipping the DeKalb Police Department cars with video equipment, when the Police Department actually does enforce the laws. I guess all the Police Department money got spent on those worthless RVs.
