This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.
I've never understood why I'm required put my weapon in a locker everytime I go to court.
I have a level 3 holster, training in weapon retention, and I don't go into secured areas like the holding cells.
Should something like the Nichols case happen again, I'd rather not be forced to run and hide because my weapon is in the locker downstairs. I'd much rather use my skills and training to stop the suspect in his or her tracks.
The legislature needs to changes the laws to allow officers like myself to be an additional wall of protection.
If you're in Uniform, POST certified and have a level 3 holster, you should be allowed and encouraged to carry in the court bldg.
