Crime up but so are felony arrests in DeKalb

The reason felony arrest are up, is because the police are more likely to run into a felon on the street. What does that say about DeKalb County? Felons come to DeKalb County like fish to a spawning pool.

The article fails to note the number of 911 calls pending because of these 8 officers and others taken off the street.

Of course you can’t expect David Simpson to be accurate. He is quoting a retired Deputy Chief, Mike Burrows.

I believe this operation was conducted on East Precinct at Snapfinger Woods Drive & Shellbark Rd, on a Wednesday which is East Precincts common work day. Normally EPD has over 20 officers working that day so there is a good chance there were no pending calls. That was a good effert trying to turn a positive thing into a negative which has been your MO lately!

Dave Simpson has always slanted his work to benefit the county. In My Humble Opinion he's just a mouthpiece for Vernon and Co.

I'd love to hear him on the stand where he'd have to report "the truth, the WHOLE truth.....".

Funny, I didn't see anything about our being on track to break the record for homicides again.

We'll solve your burglary, but we can't do anything to make sure you are alive to enjoy your stuff.

Incredible. Armed robberies and aggravated assaults are skyrocketing, but property crimes are down. Pardon me for thinking that crimes against a person are worse than one involving a house. I wonder if the violent crime reported to the FBI is actually true, or is someone cooking the books, like turning an armed robbery into pointing a pistol and theft by taking???

Those six fancy RV's are really getting the job done, aren't they?

Looks like some of you need to really read the article. Yes he pointed out the homicide rate:

"In the violent crime ledger, homicides could set a third consecutive record high in 2008. The total for nine months stood at 86, excluding two fatal shootings by police officers".

The only property crimes down are the business burglaries, not residential burglaries which correctly stated is a big problem:

"Burrows credited “aggressive patrolling” for a 6 percent drop in business burglaries.

He said the department’s major target in property crime now is residential burglary, the category which causes most of the increase in property crime".

Actually agg assaults are down:

"Meanwhile, numbers of aggravated assaults and rapes fell last year and are lower so far in 2008".

And the article correctly stated robberies were up.

So where is the bias towards our department or the CEO? If you knew Mr. Simpson you would hardly call him a friend of the police department or the CEO for that matter. Do some research on some of his past articles and he has attacked us before and will again. After all his main job is to sell newspapers.

Not that alot seem to care but again I'll stress that police tactics has little to do with reducing homicides. Just about every jurisdiction in the metro area is noticing rising crime trends. For those of us that still patrol we understand the crime rate has more to do with the quality of our "customers" living in DeKalb than anything else. A special thank you to Atlanta for leveling your housing projects and sending people to DeKalb. Katrina did us a great favor too! At the rate we're going another 500 officers on the street wouldn't be enough.

off topic... im kinda curious, what does the county pay each year to re-new the registration of each "BUS" and yes we can thank the Dekalb County Magic Buses for the drop in property crimes!
