"A review of DeKalb County operations for incoming Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis says the 911 dispatch system is “severely inadequate,” that “potentially large amounts of the county’s technology investments have been wasted” and the county needs a new public safety director position to manage the police, fire and other public safety functions."
Was there ever any doubt?

Earth shattering! Breaking news! Isn't that what the faithful who continue to post on this site have been saying for months?
The officers that post here ARE disgruntled.
They answered the calling to become police officers and to serve. All I, and everyone here, want to do is a good job.
We came here for 1) to support our families and secure their future.
and 2) to make Dekalb and the Atlanta area a better place.
One day, we want to be able to look back on our careers and be proud of what we did. Kinda like being a Boy Scout....leave the place better than you found it.
This report just validates what we've been saying.
Help us do what we came here to do. We're professionals who are frustrated that our hands are tied behind our backs.
Please see to it that our limited resources are never again wasted and pissed away.
My humble opinion.
Two words - Now What?
How do we get a full copy of this report?
our 911 system WAS great 10 years ago!! the problem is, its no better now than it was 10 years ago either!! How long do we have to keep saying the system sucks before anything is done, its a joke. its embarassing and its going to get someone hurt. We cant transmit in 30 percent of the county.... Radio says "use your car mic" that doesnt work when your getting your ass whooped 2 blocks from your unit after you had to chase him!!!! Umm excuse me Perp stand by a minute other officers dont know where I am right now" so can I go back to my car and tell them, then we can continue our fight!!
Mr. Ellis,
You are newly elected, and have yet to officially take office, you are moving in the right direction and have the opportunity to be a strong leader. Make the changes that your panel will recommend, we need better equipment, and the person(s) who have ultimatly mismanaged funds and removed our morale from the County need to be held accountable.
Changes are coming, I knew I stayed here for a reason.
The new beginning is coming soon. We can only hope that we can recover from the last administration. We live on rumors and the only hope is the truth. Someone tell us what our future will be.
Yeah, Right. News Flash! It took a hundred and fifty-five grand to figure that out!?
And what with bringing back the public safety director? Didn't we get enough of that with Brown? Bad enough he's still in the SO. More people to play politics? Must've been decided by a politician.
You want to know what our future will be? How 'bout John Pearson? Just a hunch from Just Me.
Honestly, is there really any chance we'll ever return to the days of old?
Let's see our communication system is a nightmare without a fix in sight. Our report writing system is severely flawed and coupled with operator error is a disaster. Quality training is nonexistent. All of our leadership positions are appointed and not based on merit which has led to these helter-skelter reactions we see everyday.
Now this report comes out and solidifies pretty much what most of us already knew to be fact. So our big idea is to bring back the director of public safety and remove merit protection from the chief position. Well great. We'll get ANOTHER political appointee as the director and if we ever get a decent chief he/she will work at the whim of the CEO. Having a police department under political control and not based on professional aptitude is stupid.
The not so funny part is that you could probably check on all the other departments in the county and see the same results. Lets face it, this county is circling the toilet bowel and looking for someone to flush it. Pretty soon we'll all be stuck in the sewer and knee deep in sh*t. Some of us are already there.
The only saving grace to this whole ordeal is that due to human instinct there will always be a few among us that will protect good people from those that wish to do them harm.
I've only got a couple years to retirement and can put up with whatever stupidity this place has to offer. Those of you with less time here, I feel sorry for you. Not a day goes by that I don't pray to God to bestow his love and compassion on the officers suffering through this time of conflict.
Why you trashing Brown he is the one that is helping to expose this mess we are in. I think he has done a great job cleaning up S.O. and did'n do a bad job as Director either. Looks like someone needs this outlet to vent his disgruntled comments because thats all he got. I guess he is never going to be happy with anyone but Dick Hand!
Unfortunately, to my understanding we are stuck with this system for the next ten years. Oh yea, and it cost only a "few" million dollars. I don't see the county dumping it to spend another couple million on a new system with the budget crisis. I have to give it to "radio", I've been up there a few times and they are stressed from it. I was there once when the system had gone down. To me it was chaos, but they seemed to hold it down under hecka stress. For us on the road we dont see or know what's going on up there. Hopefully it will get better for you all also. Everytime one of our Captains get in trouble with Tebo, you see a new face. I still think we have it ten times worse though. Neverthless it's sad..
The lastest news, now we have Volunteer civilians. What a nightmare that's gonna be, wanna be cops who are bound to be victims of a crime, who's going to be blamed for this.....hahah

It's obvious what happened with the contracts with Interact and AT&T for this default system. Why haven't the committee recommended a criminal investigation into these contracts. I don't think you would have to dig too deep to find who's hand is in the cookie jar.
