Boy Helms was real informative. Why does he need 8 stars on his shirt?...think somebody might not notice he was a chief? :-0
I must admit, I thought posters on here were being silly about those buses until I saw that report. Now, i'm still fuming about them. It is obvious that those buses were not meant for police work. When East Point PD had them back in the day, they actually looked like mobile preicients on the go with desks, chairs and a make shift holding room to detain arrestees until the the paddywagon came. The Dekalb PD ones look like luxury vacation vehicles. East Point got rid of theirs due to liquidating unneeded items to solve budgetary woes. ATL PD (Weed and Seed) has theirs that were nothing more than mobile 'breakrooms' for officers. I remember a newspaper exposed this and their buses were quickly moved out of site. They showed officers in their sleeping while supposedly working the beat.
I bet Bolton will quickly call a press conference to show us how these buses have solved so much crime while sitting in a mechanics bay.
While its great to see police out in the community, we want to see work and progress not just showing off what the drug money brought. Remember, the citizens will support you when they see that you are truly working for them. It is them who are paying your salaries.
Slamin Ethel says I have had the opportunity to sit on the magic buses on occasions and I must say it was a good nap I had, thanks Tebo. Every empolyee should have the right to sleep on the job. When I wake up I feel refreshed and ready to fight crime. I couldnt help myself really, the leather chairs that recline associated with a large flat screen tv makes one heck of a sleeping combination. They were designed for relaxation right??. OOOO and for the idiot officer who said it is a violation for the media to take photos or film the buses you should learn about the Constitution, you are one of the reasons why this county has seen its demise.
I saw this report last night. I was appalled when I saw the inside of those "buses". I was furious. The interior were nicer than some homes I have been in. These need to be sold and sold quickly.
Do all the Dekalb officers have bullet-proof vests yet?
Funny thing....that officer who told the news crew to leave the area..... he was probably the officer assigned to guard the bus that day.
It might be a surprise to some, but Standard Operating Procedure calls for the bus to be guarded by a uniformed officer whenever it is parked out in public.
The officer assigned to guard the bus is either an on-duty ICP officer or a uniform officer pulled off regular patrol.
The buses are not only a waste of money, they are also a drain on manpower.
To Dunwoody Mom: Yes, all officers do have vest however many are wearing ones that are outdated. For the officers wearing the outdated ones, it pretty much a crap shoot.
The officer at South Dekalb mall was refering to mall policy which he can't enforce.
The buses help when officers have to change into characters like Mcgruff & Scruff and when there is a supervisor on it who can check paperless paperwork or even field complaints. -Daman
Mr. Ellis, you are on the right track, now you can prove what you already knew. Get rid of him, and replace him with someone with class and provide him/us with the tools we need to protect DeKalb Citizens. Give us a reason to look forward to coming to work every day.
Helms please retire while you have a little dignity left. Not much! but a little! Please go now! How do you let TeBo make such of fool of you. Do you realize how dumb you sounded. If I paid $285,000, for a vehicle, I don't expect it to be in the shop at all for the first six years. Two Hundred days! You say that's "not unexpected" Go home now if you are that dumb!
I guess Helms drew the short straw that day and had to face the cameras. I was embarrassed for him; to actually say 200 days is not a long time for one of these wonderful crime-fighting machines to sit in the shop is a slap in the face to anyone with a modicum of intelligence. Funny, though - I didn't see any repair orders for a non-working coffee machine aboard those Magic Buses!
For all of you who say that the "Magic Buses" serve no purpose, that is simply untrue. I was at South DeKalb Mall during the height of the holiday shopping season and one of the ICP mobile precincts was there hogging at least ten prime parking spots. Those that the unit did not hog were commandeered to ensure that no cars parked near it. I was never so thrilled to see DeKalb's finest at work.
