Budget crunch cometh

Word out of the 4th floor is there are no more funds available for overtime, except court. So, if you must work over, the county will only grant you comp time. At least until the county budget is pasted sometime in February 2009.

Rumor is there is also a hiring freeze.

Stay tuned, it surely will get worse.

Someone needs to check out ole VJ's checking account; oooh wait maybe the feds will do that for us.
I can only wonder just how much of the 40 million missing he squandered away. And just how much of the 90 million from recorders court he put in his back pocket along with the clerks and judges?
No wonder there’s no money in the budget. But we do have some awfully nice tour buses you must admit. It reminded me of a show I watched once what was it called ooo yes "PIMP MY RIDE" .
So no money equals no Tasers, no cars, no raise, no real uniforms in the color of BLUE, and look the hiring freeze is a blessing maybe we can slow down and stop hiring thugs that work here.
There is a generation of police officers here that just blow. Tell them to do a task they look at you with a blank stare. They are a bunch of pansy asses, so please stop hiring them, and do us vets a favor.
The minimum qualifications should be at least a minimum height of at least 6 ft, 200lbs, and they must posses a backbone.
I think prior military would be a good start.
Now I would think that getting rid of the knuckleheads that run this place could save millions of tax dollars.
Does anyone other than me think that Tebo uses a crate to stand on for photo op's?

why is it that for every 50 open spots we have we lose 49. Gwinnett has just about the same size department as DeKalb but loses less than 1/3 of the officers that we do. Is it because generally speaking their officers are happy? or morale is much higher? Does it really take a genius to understand that the happier your troops are when they come to work, the harder they will work, and the higher morale is? So TEBO, sell a few buses get some tasers and new firearms and you will see that for every 50 openings we have we might only lose 30.

To Gwinnett County Command Staff:
go to 4 on and 3 off and a lateral academy and I assure you that you will have officers lined up at your door.

Its sad to know that the only thing keeping DeKalb County afloat is the fact that Gwinnett has a 6 on 3 off schedule... oh and the fact that probably a third of DeKalb officers wouldnt meet the criminal history requirements Gwinnett has.

Does that include call outs?

No money for overtime is not a new issue in this county. It has come up many times in the past few years and those who requested to be payed, got payed. Federal Law says they have to PAY overtime if it is requested. The only people they don't have to pay overtime are LT's and above. No one can force you to take comp time. The only way they can screw you is if you're in a "special" unit. They will probably do something underhanded and transfer someone who argues that they want to be payed. For those in uniform, request overtime and it will be paid. You just have to have the stones to say you won't accept comp time. What are they going to do? Change the territory you're in?
As for the hiring feeze, good thing. Quality of new hires is in the crapper.

Why would an officer want comp time when he or she can't really use it?

Dekalb is so short officers, they can't get vacation approved unless they put in for it two and three months in advance?

Does anyone think the budget freeze will impact any of the County senior executives or their staff's pay? I'm sure not. I wonder if there'll even be enough money for our small 2% annual inflation increases (unless you're at the top and can't go any higher). Can anyone say "Open Records Act"?

A good place to start would be to really clamp down on spending. I have seen some purchase orders that make me wonder how people can spend money on some of the things they do and get away with it.

And as far as I am concerned, the BOC has some fault in the uselss RVs the Department has. If they REALLY wanted to prevent such a misuse of funds, they would have done something to at least try to stop the purchases instead of giving the Chief a hard time about it after the fact. Yeah, so they blocked the 6th purchase, they should have done that with the first one. And Bolton should stop spending so much on photos of himself; bout the only place they belong is in the urinals of the local gay bar.
