This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.
Hmmmm. I'm all for Dunwoody smacking the County up side the head and leaving the Union and all, but I fear they bit off more than they could chew.
401Ks were originally intended as supplements to retirement and not retirement accounts (if I remember correctly - I don't feel like doing the research again).
Good luck to those who are going to Dunwoody PD, but if I were you , I would wait a little while to see what's going to happen. The politics of that place are going to be incredible. DeKalb may suck, but the grass isn't always greener. If you have never dealt with the Dunwoody crowd, you probably wouldn't understand. (You are beneath them)
Anyone thinking about Dunwoody should be very careful. The City has started off on rocky ground and their Department looks like it may not be as high a caliber of an organization as many would expect (look who was on their steering committe, former Dekalb Officer Curry- a total wack job). One of Dunwoody's "selling points" is part-time jobs, but most of the businesses have said they are not giving up their long-time Dekalb Officers.
Good points, there are several former Fulton County PD officers who are regretting getting on with the new cities. Many of these activists who want to break away and screw everyone else, fail to realize the costs of providing services. No officer is going to work for a low salary. You should have seen what the proposed city of South Fulton wanted to offer police officers.
Secondly, cities like Dunwoody and others want police to be private security guards rather than doing actual police work. Folks, if your neighborhood has little to no crime, then we are not going to have 10 officers patroling it just because you want to see visibility.
As you see, APD got out of the business of school crossing guards and told the Atlanta Public School system to hire their own civilians to do it. Ditto for Fulton County PD unless the school sits on a major road. I bring this up because this is what the Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Milton, Johns Creek crowd likes to bitch about when it comes to policing. And from what I hear, some of these new city councils want to be chief of police as well.
Do you really want to leave DKPD for Mayberry PD? Think about it!
I wonder what kind of retirement package will be offer? I think after a short period, Dunwoody will contract with the county ,why because cost effective policing.
I guess this will be a WAIT and SEE period for now.

I'm surprised the flyer doesn't talk about pension or 401K.
