Trust the AJC to white-wash this event. The AJC did not report the vehicles allocated to the Chief, and placed under another cost center. Pretty damning, made no mention of the badge that I conjecture was given to his civi chief of staff (I am making a guess with that one) nor the use of comp-time in January. Keep it up AJC! (The AJC is at a loss of why they are losing readers for some reason.) When the AJC feels like reporting the news, maybe there subscriptions will increase.....

Make Bill O'Brien, Chief Bill O'Brien!

It has a nice ring of ethics, honesty, professionalism and excellence.

As a uniform officer who patrols the streets of Dekalb, I would like to endorse removing the Acting from his title.

I also challenge other officers to voice their support. This is the man who can lead us back to greatness.

Moderator, how about a pole on the web page.

What is a pre-termination letter. Does a pre-termination letter apply to all county employees that are disciplined or terminated. Where is this rule located.

Bolton: the more he talks, the dumber you sounds! He sees a Major driving a seized Range Rover, tells the Major it's a nice car, and the next day orders him to give it up. Why? Because he's "worried another agency might try to claim it." Does he really think anyone is going to believe that pathetic excuse? He needed to keep the vehicle and a luxury Mercedes at his house to keep another agency from claiming them?? Wow, not only is this guy a liar, he's a bad liar. If he's hiding them at his house, what good are they doing the department? They might as well be given to this fictional other agency!

Everything a person needs to know about Bolton is that he viewed attending the Candlelight Vigil for Officers Barker and Bryant as EXTRA WORK, and felt justified taking the comp time.

As a citizen I'm horrified that the leader of our police department attended the service, but checked his watch to record how much time it took out of his day. That is not behavior becoming of a leader.

These seized vehicles should not be for the exclusive use of a Major either. They should be used for undercover use and nothing else or sold and the money used to fight crime ! This is an excellent time to rid Dekalb county of all abuses, set rules in place and put good managers in place who have the gut's to supervise and hold people accountable for their actions and productivity.

It's my understanding that the Major driving the luxury seized vehicle was in charge of the undercover unit. I don't see a problem with him driving a seized vehicle. Driving an undercover car gives him the ability to be in the area during operations, supervise his troops and not stick out in a Crown Victoria painted all black.

Since Bolton has his own personal fleet and the county is too cheap to buy enough cars for everyone who needs one in the county, you have all kinds of detectives driving seized vehicles. It's really pathetic seeing a burglary detective visiting victims' homes in an old ratty Honda Accord.
