Well this ought to be interesting...
I have things to say, but to be honest, I'd rather do them over a beer in a casual setting or a cocktail party. Feeling that someone might see me down in Decatur gives me the willies.
I trust Chief O'Brien, yes I said Chief O'Brien, but others still in power scare me.
First I would ask him to keep O'Brien
2.Change back to all black uniforms
3.Make it that you have to take a test and have to be an FTO for a year before being an MPO
3.Aggresively go and recruit the furloughed. APD officers we will save money with training them
4.Fix the pay problem. A MPO should not make more than any supervisor.
5.Start a reservist unit for retired DKPD(only) have them drive the patty wagon
,answer signal 3'S and work screening on the weekend. This will free up valuable man hours and put extra police on the street instead of screening.
6. Jumpout team, let stop all open air sells
Can we stop hiring people with tatoos on their neck. Now that is crazy. Question for the ceo
Bono, the black uniforms sucked, they faded and shrank really fast. We need the blue uniforms back. But, in this time of budget crisis, that is not what money should be spent on. Eliminate 3 out of 4 assistant chief positions, and 4 out of 7 deputy chief positions. That's about 4 million $$ right there.
With money being tight, why are some Deputy Chiefs and Majors driving around in huge Tahoes and Expeditions?
It's not like they're carrying a lot of gear to be used in the field or transporting a number of people with them.
I could understand a SWAT Sgt., canine or Commercial vehicle, but come on, what does a Major or a Deputy Chief actually transport to a scene?
Just another example of the haves showing off their perks and "style'n" in morale busting fashion.
We're being told that there's not enough money to buy new patrol cars when they hit 120,000 miles, but we see money being pissed away on goofy stuff.
Wonder who'll be staking out this location trying to see who is bold enough to speak to the CEO. I really don't have any questions or concerns just:
1. Name O'Brien as official chief
2. Reinstate 5% across the board
yearly raises
3. Go back to VisionAir CAD system
4. Fix the radio dead-spots
5. Hire more officers next year
6. Pay increase for FTOs
Well, now that I think about it maybe I should schedule a meeting.(Maybe not, don't want to be on channel 5)
This poster isn't on the DKPD, but here's a golden chance for saving yourself some work.
PLEASE ask Ellis if they can start addressing crime by treating addresses where it comes from as public nuisances. Apartment complexes, such as the ones on Glenwood where the two officers were shot need to be demolished.
Drug infested by the week hotels (Northlake Inn, Aloha Hotel, pick anyplace around Candler or Glenwood)have had their day. If Ellis wants to really address safety, all of these areas need their day of reckoning. And the way to correct the problem isn't to renovate them- the thugs always come back to roost.
I am going to take this time to meet with the CEO. I encourage everyone to take this chance to express our frustration and express what direction we would like the department to go.
I will not be one of those people to complain about things going on and not do anything about it. I for one will express my thoughts. If you all do not take this time to meet with the CEO TO EXPRESS YOUR CONCERN, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO BITCH! STAND UP AND SPEAK UP.... I KNOW I WILL!
How about 2 to a car...?
As a civilian, I went on a ride along with one of our finest...however, we had to let a suspicious guy go because we waited 25 minutes for back up in order to search the car. The back up never came. Let's double up and get our guys back to proactive police work rather than just reacting when crime happens.

From a citizen point of view, we just want a solid police force. Good Leadership, happy officers, good retention, no furloughs, and a 911 system that works.
Thank you DKPD! I used to hate seeing "cops if a radar gun was pointed in my direction. Now I have the utmost respect for you. I'm so thankful to see Officers driving around our neighborhoods, amazed to see the many ways you help stranded motorists, thankful to have you working to diminish crime. I rest easier knowing that if I had to call 911, some of the good people on this blog may be the ones to respond and help. Thanks for all you do!

Unfortunately, I have say that I have a family to think about and I don't think being seen leaving your office would be good for my career or my internal assigment - duties that aren't covered by your general order.
Plain and simple, I'll run towards the sound of gunfire, but this scares me.

Officers can and have expressed themselves without fear.
I agree with Notcar1 - the setting would not be conducive to productive meetings. I also see the CEO's dilemma; you don't want this to turn into a "Deep Throat" situation, meeting anonymously in dimly lit parking garages or back alleys. It will take some people with big brass ones to step forward and give some insight into the last few years. I would hope that those people also have some valid and viable suggestions. Anyone can complain - give me some new, well thought out ideas! Good luck to those with the moxie to do it!
I appaud the new CEO for taking a step to reach out to the officers of Dekalb County. The only problem is we have lived under an opressive and vendictive rule so long we are afraid to speak our minds in the open. In the current economy and political situation stepping forward would be tantamont to career suicide. If he wants to convince officers that they are not going to have reprisals set against them he could start by show good faith.... reassigning all the mis assigned officers from property, animal control, and crossing guards to their previous positions. Then maybe you'll get some officers that are willing to put their necks on the line. I am not a coward... I have ran toward a lot of bullets in my career, but my family comes first.
We need Chief O'Brien to lead this department from the lowest point we have ever reach. He is a true leader that this department needs to to survive. Please do not let race become a factor in any decision that the CEO decides in a new appointment.
At last the CEO has found a person who can lead all the officers in the department and can make this place a proud place to be employed.

Face to face is always better though.
Our supervisors, through the Major, have personally advised us to go to one of the meetings and take the time to meet with the CEO. The Chief has also spoken to us, candidly, on multiple occasions and asked for our opinion on specific issues. This makes me a lot more comfortable with the idea that there will not be negative fallout from attending the meeting. The more people who attend, the less possibility of punishment.
I hope that this sort of open, straightforward administrative policy continues. It would do a lot to repair some of the fear that has dogged morale for the past 5+ years.
Somtimes I sit on my throne any ponder just what would I say while I serve up my morning glory.
But I too agree that there will be someone hiding in the bushes with a pair of binoculars or a scope pointed my way.
Political suicide im thinking, so godsped to all my fellow,quite possibly ex-fellow officers.
Now im going back to the throne, Ethel needs to be slapped around a bit more.
I'm going...where is his office located? Has it moved from the Maloof Building?
