Why is the rediculous remnants of Boltons screwed up regime not on this list (i.e. ICP???)

at least cut ICP in half, 10 plus a sergeant thats insane. Take their cars away, they can wait in line for units just like everyone else does.

ICP is a good thing but someone needs to re-evaluate it. And well why do ICP have take home cars, Name one time they were actually called in on a off day that was emergency, and no being called in to work on your day off is not an emergency.

Im sick and tired of being sick and tired!

The reason ICP has/had take home cars is they were promised them as an incentive. They also have an awesome 5/2 week. Even with those great incentives you didn't a large group of people putting in for it. You can think the program stinks but that was the deal. It always seemed to me that people were envious of ICP but didn't want to sacrifice their 4/3 schedule. So when the cars are finally taken and I think they will be, who is going to want the job?

Shutting down the ICP program is going to be difficult politically. It's a typical government program that sounds good on paper but lacks any real results. Who's going to take away peoples private police officers when even the president/congress has but in money for additional ICP/COP programs and officers.

CID and Internal Affairs needs their take home cars. I am not in either of these units, but have witnessed the hours Major Felony has worked. And I have been present when Internal Affairs has been called out in the middle of the night, though not often. They work some lousy hours and should receive some compensation for it.

Blogmaster, I think your wording is wrong. Major Felony/CID will get to keep their cars, as they are actually an on call unit. I have yet to hear about Homeland and Special Ops, although they will probably keep theirs too. But CID guys, you will keep your cars. IA should have a pool of about 4 cars, then the guy on call that week will keep the car. Because let's be honest folks..IA does not get called out very often, only to officer shootings. Which are wayyy down. Can't remember the last time I saw IA on a narcotics callout, or a person stabbed a 2am. Also, the one and ONLY time ICP was called out was on Christmas Day night, yet another attempt by Bolton to show ICp was "on call". By the way, he made that call from Texas, too, and used Doo-boy Rancid to make it happen.

If the Officers in ICP actually backed-up their respective Precinct Officers and handled overflow 911 calls, then I'd say yes, their existence is warranted. However, it does not appear this is being done; even if it were, you need to spread the ICP Officers out over all three shifts. Having worked Morning Watch for many years, I can attest to how Friday and Saturday nights rock - calls pend pretty much until 0530 or 0600 the next morning - how bout putting some ICP Officers to help out then? I'm sure those who still work those hours would LOVE to see some back-up and help!

And can we put the car-envy to rest already??? One way to tell if a take-home car is needed is how many times you're called back in to work (or called in while on-call); I know for a fact the City of Atlanta does this - they have to show (record WITH explanation) at least 4 actual call-ins a month to keep their vehicle (at least it was this way last year). I think that's a great idea - PROVE you need the vehicle based on need rather than nepotism/favoritism. And YES - CID does in fact need their vehicles and YES they work their butts off - and they DON'T need the POS hand-me-downs with 150K-plus mileage either. As far as everyone else - PROVE IT! I'm not opposed to a Review Board to examine the usage - but the real trick is coming up with an unbiased and fair group...

Finally, I think take home cars should be strongly considered for Uniform Officers who live INSIDE DeKalb County. Those that don't live outside the county for a reason - so I think it'd be a great boost for the citizens to see a DKPD unit riding around in their neighborhood! How about giving tax breaks to DKPD employees who buy homes inside DeKalb County? There's a LOT that could be done - so let's at least consider any and all options!

there are some great odeas on the blog. Let's not forget about the other agengcies that are taking our highly trained officer because they have a good take home car program.

Civilian employees should not have a take home car at all, you can have them submit their milage if the have to come into work.

I hate to say it but we need ICP, we have to have a soft and cuddly unit for the citizens. There is a lot of federal grant money for ICP so they are needed.
