Monday’s firing of Dekalb Recreation Director Marilyn Boyd Drew may have been seven years in the making.

Another one of Vernon's cronies make the citizenry of DeKalb proud time and time again.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Her office failed these kids repeatedly! She thinks she doesn't deserve to be fired??

I think this shows that EVERYONE appointed to or given a significant position of authority in the county by Vernon Jones needs to be reevaluated. They should all have to reapply for their jobs.

Is she ALSO "merit protected"?

Same for all of Bolton's appointees.

So do all the ones Bolton appointed,
look at the one in I.A., he got his college internet degree on the tax payer dollar.

CEO Ellis continues to take out Vernon's trash.

Multiple lawsuits. Shady hiring. Shady dealings with vendors.

She should have been canned a while ago.

There is no longer a place in dekalb county government for racist incompetant people of any color or kind. After the county was sued multiple times for racial bias In the parks department I am sure Ellis was thinking "give me a reason"!

I doubt if any of the managers or directors think of themselves as racist, yet when orders came down from Vern "to darken things up in management". It happened big time, a black female is the candidate of choice. My department went from a nearly all white management team to nearly all black in less than five years. The white team was particulary incompetent so we are under better, but less experianced management at present. We do try hard though...
The county hiring practices have been suspect for 15 years in racial hiring practices. Everything has been low key and hush hush, but demographics of racial makeup of DeKalb employees speaks volumes, due to its illusiveness. You will not find any such document or statitics available from HR. That seems kind of strange seeing that 15 years ago these documents and stats were easily available and used by civil rights activists to agitate for an appropiate representation of minorities in DeKalb Government, a worthy cause if pursued in a ethical manner. However the hiring process in DeKalb is cloaked in secrecy and results in many totaly unqualified candidates being interviewed, and makes it hard to find qualified candidates. Entirely too much weight is given to a college degree and people with required experiance and skills are dropped by HR in favor of the all important college degree that many candidates do not need to do the job. I would not be hired by the county if I applied for my position today. I have the required experiance and skills, I lack a four year degree, and neither black nor female. I am truly fracked!

LoFlyer is right. Joe Stone, the head of HR under Vernon, carried Vern's mandate to "darken" county gov't. Joe Stone gave Vern the maximum contribution for all of Vernon's various campaigns. it's unbelievable that Burrell hasn't sacked Stone yet.
