Officers Run Background Check On Obama; Placed On Leave

Two DeKalb County police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after an investigation revealed they ran a background check on President Barack Obama.

A representative for the DeKalb County CEO’s office identified the officers as Ryan Wright and C.M. Route.

Officials said Obama’s name was typed into a computer inside a DeKalb County police car on July 20 and ran through the National Crime Information Center.

The secret service was immediately notified and contacted the DeKalb County Police Department.

A representative said both officers have been with the department less than five years.

A representative said one of the officers denied involvement.

An official investigation is being conducted by the DeKalb County Police Department’s Internal Affairs division.

It is unclear why the officers ran a check on the president.

Gee, who would have thought they keep track of stuff like that?? I mean, I know they TELL YOU THAT during your NCIC/GCIC certification classes, but who knew?

These idiots passed the entry exam? Who do they know that gave them the answers?

Morons.

In the past week or so, Channel 2 has also reported that a female officer was either arrested and/or suspended for forgery. Also, the Sgt. from North Precinct who was the subject of the visit to his lady-friend in January was found to be on the clock when the incident occurred.

Do you mean NCIC/GCIC was up and running in Dekalb County? Thats odd the system was working....How often is it when the system goes down officers? 3-4 times a week during peak hours!! Yeah we have a great system.....too bad I have to call Chamblee or Doraville to run my 98...and when it is up and running radio gets an attitude when I ask her to run 98....quit your moaning about having to do some work and just run it!! and lose the attitude...everytime I talk to radio I feel like I'm talking to a perps mom....The 2 guys that work up there keep up the good work, they are 2 of the best we have....thanks for 10-62in when necessary!!

Ladies/Gentleman what we have before us are two majors or deputy chiefs.

This makes others (we all know who) that used NIC/GCIC for personal purposes look like amateurs.

So what were the outcomes? These things seem to have gone under the radar. One was supposed to be resolved within two weeks, but....

Has this hit the national news yet? It's gonna. Of course then maybe they will find the blog and see that moronic behavior used to flow from the top in DeKalb.

Whats the big deal? I thought we had a transparent president?

They should also fire the people that hired them. We really must quit hiring the mentally challanged. First question on the entry exam should be "What was the length of the bus that you rode to school?". A) Long. B) Short. If you answer B you are automatically disqualified and can not answer any further questions.

It seems that nearly every week there is something else negative about Dekalb County or our police department either because of ethics or violation of law by officers within this department. Violations of law that in some cases are felonies. Felons cannot be police officers! Period. But, now we have this problem of a double standard. We kept others, now what about these two? I am proud to be a police officer, but I cannot help but feel ashamed and embarassed to have anything to do with Dekalb County and its police department because this madness continues. Please Mr. Ellis & A/C O'Brien. Clean this place up quick.

I think everyone that has less than 2 years with the department should be investigated again and their backgrounds should be checked out AGAIN. These were the 200 officers that were rushed through the process by Bolton.

I wouldn't be surprised if DeKalb loose its certification (license) to run NCIC. These officers should be fired, no excuse. With the increase in crime, im sure there was something else to do...i dont know what, but patrolling comes to mind.

Everybody does something stupid in life,we have retained all the others and no one been fired. So why throw them under the bus.

I can just imagine how this happened. The two cops are sitting in a mall shopping lot at two AM in the morning, the drunks have gone to bed and the perps are home screwing their GF's. The cops start talking politics and the subject gravitates to Obama, and becomes animated, one cop believes Obama has something to hide, and the other doesn't. One announces he is going to a BG check on Obama, and the other replies, I don't believe you will tell me what it truly reports, and runs another himself. Bad news all the way around! These cops had to of known better, Lord knows its been beaten into my brains for twenty years do not run plates on pretty girls. (And I don't even use the thing) Now lets get to the intent of the matter, did the cops mean to harm Obama in any way with the BGC? I seriously doubt it. Hopefully IA will take this into account when they make their recommendations. Compared to the white-wash of Vern's detail doing the same against Dale Russell and others, I expect the two officers to be suspended which is a lot more than happend to Vern's cronies whose intent was not beniegn.

Sure it was a dumb thing to do, but fire them. Get real I would be willing to bet you that every Mr. of Mrs. Anonymous on this page has done something dumb since they began working here. As for the Anonymous who is ashamed to be DKPD, go work with you buddy Bert in Sandy Springs.

WELL, If another officer of rank can do it and then rocket through the ranks, why can't those guy's do it. It's obviously an asset to getting to the top.

Dial it down a notch people.. these idiotic things happen at police departments.. i can vouch for that.. I've worked at a few..
Just fire the idiots and move on.. its actually just adds to the funny stories later on.. Hey you remember that dumbass who ran the President on NCIC?? Ohh yeahh.. what a tool..

Who did these officers think they were?? What arrogance!! Thinking they can ILLEGALLY run someone on NCIC when they aren't even friends with Vernon Jones??

Unbelievable!

These idiots thought they could break the law and get away with it without Vernon Jones to cover for them and promote them all the way to Deputy Chief in less than 2 years from now??

If I can get the Frank deal, I'm running everybody that crosses my mind on NCIC. That was the path to success. Just kidding, mostly. I wouldn't do that but it is a clear example of the inconsistancy of discipline at DKPD. I wouldn't fire those guys that just violated NCIC policy but they need discipline to fit the offense and to be made an example of to others.

I don't know about you guys, but ever since the knew "upgrade" on the CAD,everytime you run someone, your name is attached to that GCIC/NCIC search. Running people just to be running folks has been happening for a long long time, that's not new..but running the President!!! Come on fellas. As for the comment related to radio and attitudes. Yes "some" of them do,but don't put "ALL" of our operators in the category and just like we have our issues radio has issues, animal control, water n sewer, roads n drainage. Every department has issues but we should all remain positive that after TeBo is gone things will get better. Hopefully

Come on people. Its investigating and blowing up every little incident that officers do that contributes to low moral and officer's not doing their jobs as effectively. It seems that sometimes its easier just to let the suspect go than arrest him if he files a complaint. Every time I've written a To From I did exactly what I was supposed to, but I was still writing To Froms. This job is not black and white and county policy often forgets what its like to work the road in Dekalb county. Its dangerous and almost every person we come in contact with is prone to criminal behavior. It seems like we have no support sometimes. Was running the president stupid? Yes, but I think suspension is in order instead of firing them. I personally don't know the two, but how do you know some 53 didn't mouth off his name and DOB is the same as the presidents? I would hate to be in a position where some 53 tells me the name and DOB of some congressman and I get fired because I ran his name.

Anonymous said...

I am willing to bet a pay check that there is only ONE person named "Barack Obama" in the whole world. If a 53 told you that was his name and you believed him, I think you should be in another line of work.

just another incident of the police acting "stupidly". these past few weeks have seen a police officer send a racist e-mail,officers caught on audio trying to frame a civilian when their vehicle rear ended another vehicle in Florida, and a Philadelphia police officer ran a background check on President Obama. these officers shoould be terminated for their stupidity because they have dishonored their badges and tainted the good police officers .if there is such thing as a good police officer.
