Two arrested for killing DeKalb cop’s girlfriend

By MEGAN MATTEUCCI
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Two people are in jail charged with the shooting death of a DeKalb County Police officer’s fiancée.

DeKalb Police arrested the two late Friday night, police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said Saturday morning. Parish said the suspects’ identities and more details on the arrests would be available Saturday afternoon.

Jameelah Qureshi, 40, was found shot Aug. 15 outside her home in the 700 block of Kilkenny Circle in Lithonia.

Detectives said the mother of four was on her way home from work and had just pulled into the driveway when gunfire erupted. Several family members were inside the home, but were not injured, police said.

DeKalb police formed a special task force to hunt for the shooters. Police immediately ruled out Qureshi’s fiancee, a police officer, as a suspect.
A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Patmos Baptist Church. She will be buried in Resthaven Cemetery.

A trust fund has been set up for the four children. Donations can be left at any Wachovia Bank under the Latrice Evans fund.

Jameelah was a witness against Porras in 2005. I looked up Luis' name for the DeKalb County Detention Center.

may the two who did it forever rot in hell. We love you Jameelah.

If guilty, I hope they ride the chair.

Way to GO Major Felony Unit, GREAT job getting the S.O.B. who did this. The man is in jail before she was laid to rest.

So many people worked so hard for this conclusion! They deserve a huge pat on the back! Thank you to all who helped solve this crime!!

Jameelah was the victim of murder. The rest of us were victims of theft. She was stolen from us.

Gwen Keyes, if you're reading this, you must acknowledge that this case has "Death Penalty" written all over it. This was a well thought out, deliberately planned assassination. These cowards obviously knew when to strike so they wouldn't have to deal with a certain S.W.A.T. Team member. This kind of premeditation and lack of respect for human life and all that is right DEMANDS the Death Penalty. Send a message! We will NOT tolerate this kind of savagery!

I'm confused... in roll call we were given the description of a black male with a pony tail, possibly wearing a wig and a black female, Driving a green sedan. Was this a bogus look-out? Because I was actually looking for these perps.
Why didn't we ever get a clear look-out or an updated look-out of the suspects? I was guarding the house for 4.5 hours of my shift looking and waiting for a black male and black female...what would have happend if these two white perps showed up? With the lack of information, more than likely I would have let them go...That is unsafe practice Major Felony...at least update the 10-35, that put us all in danger.
Nonetheless, I am glad you all caught them, so now when do we find out what really happen?

Excellent work Detectives. There are a few things these perps out here can get away with, but you don't TOUCH a cops family. I'd love to be there to see them be euthanized like a sick dog. RIP Jameelah. I hope this brings you closure Sergeant, we're all here for you.

They didn't give all the 78 probably because they did not know all the details. Just guard the house and accept your role. If you are watching the house, anyone besides the resident is a suspect. Check them "Rookie" and stop trying to be a Hero. Also They can't give all information because so many inquiring minds such as you have the media on speed dial and big mouth gossips can ruin a case. Great Job Major Felony and all others assisting. The leaks need to end. It will tear our Dept. apart again.

Perhaps Major Felony didn't have these suspects ID'd immediately. Who knows? Major Felony doesn't let a lot of information about murder investgiations out for a good reason: cops talk too much and they don't want to jeopardize their case.

If you were guarding that house, you should have assumed anyone who showed up was a potential suspect. If Major Felony had J2 out on these perps, I am willing to bet you would have been given a heads up.

I think it would be best if we did not complain here about what was or what wasn't done in this investigation. This isn't like an argument over some unqulaified butt kisser getting a position in the deparmtment they didn't deserve. It's a high profile murder case! The case was sovled by the task force very quickly. Let's thank them and offer our support to Jameelah's surviving friends and family.

Better yet let's tie them up and force them to listen to Spanky's jokes or talk to Rainey for over a hour. OMG that will drive them to jump off the Sears tower.

Does Sgt's name have to be mentioned in the site and comments? We all know him, but so far the general public does not and he's been laying low. After all he is in a sensitive position.

Why didn't the perps resist arrest? Some ponytail haired lawyer is going to get them a cake of a deal.

Paul Howard said it was a good decision to drop the FIRST murder charge against this worthless thug?? Really nice, Paul! Did you forget what your duty is? You're supposed to prosecute CRIMINALS and keep the public SAFE from CRIMINALS!!

Why is it Paul Howard couldn't find enough evidence to bring this WORTHLESS THUG to trial for murder, but when the grandson of one his friends is gunned down while trying to run over an Atlanta Police Officer, Paul Howard is so determined to prosecute the officer that he ignores the Atlanta investigation that clears the cop in the shooting, he ignores the GBI investigation that clears the cop in the shooting, and he ignores the FBI investigation that clears the cop in the shooting?? In THIS case, Paul Howard was so determined to convict a cop, he shopped around for a whole year to find an "expert witness" who would see things his way!!

Paul Howard, you're a disgrace and you deserve to rot in hell next to these two perps! You could have prevented this, but I guess that it didn't fit your agenda!

We understand that this is a highly publicized case; however out respect for the family and their privacy and for obvious safety measures and reasons, I am requesting on behalf of the family that you discontinue using personal identifying information and that no names be given or listed as it pertains to this matter in your discussions. As you are aware this is a public site and also as you may (or not) have noticed Sgt. and his family are NOT speaking out and/or in the media. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness, prayers, and consideration. Family Friend

My condolences go out to the SGT and his family...However I have something to add about some of the comments:

In reference to the comments some of you so "diligently" made, you all may want to rethink the conduit in which you type online. Why would you make opinionated comments of how the perps should be punished? (I.E. ride the chair, rot in hell, etc.)

I understand you all are passionate in your anger of the suspect involved in this case, but if anything were to ever happen that involved a DeKalb officer in the future (whether it be an officer related 50 or 92), criminal defense lawyers are going to have a field day with your comments. I do not know if you all mask your IP's before posting on this site, but there are ways to track you people, and God forbid you are using a personal home computer. This IS a personal blog for us officers to vent on, but it is still a public record that can be tracked by the general public. Make sure you think about future repercussions before you quack like this again.

Am I wrong in my explanation? Bottom line is, keep your "this and that should happen to that (expletive) knucklehead blah blah" comments to yourself, or at least limit it to your buddy circles in the fleet parking lot.

A note from DeKalb Officers: IP addresses are not published anywhere for anyone to find except by the host of this blog. Last time we checked, the off shore country where this blog is being hosted and the United States are not that kine on honoring each others subpoenas.
