If they are in such a rush to get people out to balance the budget why are they making them stay till the end of May?

I hope this benifit to the county is not a strain on our pension.

I agree Anon #2. Did I miss the %? Is it 2.5? That works out to 62.5%. Some of us are under the old plan of 82.5% and this would not be a good deal for those people.

I really do feel for you guys that are ineligible and will be forced to put up with these maniacs, aka the BOC. I get the feeling that the BOC is setting up you guys to get some hefty pay and benefit concessions out of the county employees. Most of you guys understand good cop/bad cop psychology and this works similarly.
We will see a draconian proposal by the BOC to eliminate all paid holidays, the matching pension contribution and the wimpy 30 percent insurance subsidy eliminated that would result in an effective 30 percent pay-cut across the board. Of course all you guys are going to yell bloody murder so then the "good" commissioners will put forth the proposal calling for only half to a quarter the concessions from employee benefits.
After the original deep cuts, it is hoped that all you guys will declare how grateful you are to the BOC for not hurting you more, and agree to the 7 1/2 to 15 percent cut.
You will note that during this process the employees will never be shown any respect or given any thanks by the BOC for giving up your benefits.
Next year the economy will not be any better and the county still not efficient so the whole process will begin again because that is the way things work in DeKalb.
Instead of using this financial crises to take a hard look at county operations and save money by eliminating waste, inefficiency and mediocrity the county will continue down its path of expanding expensive non-core socialist functions at the expense of core functions and employee pay and benefits.
It is time the BOC is reminded of the sacrifices made by DeKalb employees to support DeKalb's socialist agenda for the last decade. DeKalb employees will never be respected as long as we allow ourselves to be screwed at every opportunity by the BOC.
Note to CEO and BOC: Payback is hell, and after May 31 I will be untouchable. The last decade and a half has been yours, screwing my pay at every opportunity while my team provided you with world class service and saved you and our citizens 9 figure savings over the last decade. As the Terminator said, "I'll be back." and you aren't going to like it one bit...

LF: did I hear you declaring your candidacy? You would certainly have MY vote!

First of all I think if the BOC did take away the 30 contributions to insurance and the counties portion of the pension there would be a mass exit of employees with fewer than ten years. Second nobody would want to come work for DeKalb and the only people that would hurt would be the citizens (IE VOTERS!!). They would just be signing their death certificate. If they want the holidays take them who cares if it would shut them up. If they do decide to take all these things away the media would be all over the BOC and I for one would be cheering loud. Officers can go to other agencies and get pension and benefits, which the other cities, counties, or towns will contribute to to get good employees hired.. Sure they might take a pay cut but it would be nowhere near the cut the BOC wants to take form us. I hope the BOC and Mr. Miller reads this because you will get burned if you take these things. You will only hurt the citizens of DeKalb and more people will leave the county to live in a safer community. I do understand the influx of revenue is down but to rob peter to pay Paul will not work so come up with another idea.

Thanks Anon5! I saw the writing on the wall 13 years ago and moved out of the county then. I don't enjoy the commute one-bit but it is much quieter out here.
DeKalb politicians have been running the wheels off of DeKalb for decades, and with the recession things are about to get a lot worse. After May 31, I would love to volunteer my time for any committee interested in cutting waste and inefficiency in DeKalb government.
