I notice there is no mention of benefits like paid vacation and holidays. Bet they've also done away with the graph that shows your progression of pay too.

I'm surprised to not see and asterisk by pay... *based on what we feel like paying, subject to arbitrary reduced pay/furloughs.

I'd love to see that notice along side the notices put out by our neighbors.

Ethel couldn't help but notice that there was no requirment to be drug free, no arrest, or convictions?
Further she wants to know why there was no mention of the loss of all Holiday pay, along with guaranteed furlough days this year.
The loss of take home cars, low morale around the department, confusion as to who is actually incharge these days.
All im saying is that we already have criminals working around this place. Lets make it mandatory that you must have served in the armed forces to even be eligable to work here.
No previous arrest, no drug use of any sort, no GED recipients, lets up the annie.
The only problem with this is that we wouldnt have anyone eligable. This is what our society has come to, a bunch of degenerat pansy asses.
I should have listened to grand pappy, a hard head does make a soft ass!
Now I thank you kindly to stay out of my personal affairs.

I wouldn't work there if they actually paid me for every day I worked. If you work in Dekalb Couny , your work for the bigest bunch of lunitics in government. Perpetual turmoil, bad press and milk toast commanders. The black hole of bad decisions. If they EVER reconsidered how they treat and back the rank and file officer I may reconsider. If there was EVER a need for a real Teamsters type union, this is the place. From first to worst. How did this happen? Not holding my breath.

I sure feel for the detectives in the background and recruiting unit now. How on earth can they possibly sell this place to anyone as "the place to be in law enforcement"? There is not a single good selling point anymore. But there sure are a whole lot of detractors.

I think it is fair to say that the work-load here in DeKalb isn't getting any lighter. It's getting heavier and heavier. Expectations continue to soar. Is it any wonder that our numbers continue to dwindle? There is a greater and greater work-load for fewer remaining officers and getting approved time off is becoming more difficult; especially in the uniform division since this place likes to widdle away at it with the creation of so many additional specialized units. It really is stretching the resources of what we have left to the breaking point. And sadly the extra work-load is rewarded with pay cuts, no raises, furloughs, loss of paid holidays, reduced pension plan, and whatever else the CEO and BOC can think of. And let's not forget all of the embarrassing bad press that further demoralizes us. How could anyone self-respecting; true, prospective law enforcement officer feel any sense of honor or pride to want to come join this place? I think it is safe to say this. Surely no experienced officer(s).

Like I said, I sure feel for the detectives in the background and recruiting unit. I cannot even begin to ponder what positive thing there is left to a new prospect to interest them in wanting to come here. Well maybe, "You will receive a steady paycheck every two weeks." Well, perhaps. Don't hold your breath!

This is from the county's actual job posting online:

Benefits: 15 days vacation; 13 days sick
leave; 10 paid holidays and merit salary
increases, subject to funding; medical group
insurance options; pension plan; opportunities
for promotion; deferred compensation plan.

They are still advertising 10 paid holidays. LIES, LIES, LIES

We now have one of the worst retirement packages in the state.

All we are going to have are possible 5 year officers who then leave for better places.

They say this department was one of the best before Vernon was elected.
We have to worry about little Vernon now.

Have you seen the department's webpage?? It's a disaster! Half of the images don't work and html code is visible all over the place! Who is responsible for this?

Vernon.

Thank God DeKalb is Hiring more officers! We have way more officers on the road now than when I started and more specialized units that you can shake a stick at. The brass needs to wake up, disband the units that are not needed and put them on the road. Tell the alarm companies to check the location themselves. Also, there should be no more private property accident reports.

It's been 2 years since we've had a raise but it's great they have the money to hire an unqualified warm body to help with these false alarm calls.

There is no reason for us to do private property accident reports. On private property, there is no "Failure to Yield Turning Left" and there's no "Following Too Closely." One of the few exceptions would be if one driver was DUI, but how often does that happen? They usually make it to the roadway and have their accidents there.

Fender benders in the Kroger parking lot are a waste of our time.
