Caught on Tape: Fulton Sheriff Investigates Deputy's Altercation With Braves Fan

We don't like bashing our own, but gezz, stupid is as stupid does.

As the Braves game ended Saturday and fans spilled out of Turner Field, a confrontation developed in one of the parking lots. And a man named Matt Lear hit the record button on his video camera.

"Nobody told you to touch my motorcycle," a man in a law enforcement uniform is heard saying to another man.

Lear edited the video, highlighting what appears to be the hand of the law enforcement officer striking the head of man whom Lear says was a baseball fan. It occurred in the blue parking lot along Fulton Street.

The Fulton County sheriff's office says it appears that the officer is one of its deputies, still unidentified. Sheriff Ted Jackson issued a statement, saying "There is an internal affairs investigation underway concerning this matter and we will follow the evidence wherever it leads us. Please be certain that this type of behavior will not be tolerated."

A Fulton county sheriff's spokeswoman says it's unclear whether the deputy actually arrested anybody.

The video goes on to show two men apologizing -- and the deputy handcuffing and threatening to use his taser on one of them.

The deputy was apparently working an off-duty job outside the stadium and employed for the night by the Atlanta Braves. A spokeswoman for the Braves says they, too, are investigating.

DeKalb Officers: Now, if someone who just tell the APD cop directing traffic at the coroner of Capital and Georgia Ave to turn down the music coming from his private motorcycle! What an example he is setting.

I'd like to be able to slap the cuffs on my neighbor when his dog poops on my lawn. Wonder if this officer arrests people who look at him funny?

This is typical. I see similiar displays from on and off-duty APD and FCSD on Braves property during game nights routinely. It's like stress management for them. They are so weak willed they can't even wait for a real criminal to beat up on.

Alright. Can't wait to see comments on this. Because Ima Citizen says, if 2 drunken idiots were messin' with my (expensive, not-mine-but-I'm-responsible-for-it) bike, and then flung their spit in my face during their lame (drunk-in-public) apology, well crap.....I really doubt I would have been as nice. Good thing I'm not a cop. What everyone seems to forget is that with videotapes like this, there's a before (and after) part. Remember Rodney King??? I've managed to avoid trouble like this. Why? Because I don't fuk with cops. L'in MAO!

You know go figure it would be a supervisor too, if this was a Dekalb Supervisor they would probably be transferred to South morning watch till the whole thing blew over.....ain't that so Willie D?

Don't worry, Atlanta sends its troubled officers that it is too scared to fire or whom are politically connected to the airport. What a way to welcome people to the city with the worst of the ranks on patrol. FCSO sends troubled deputies back to jail duties. If Freeman was still there nothing would happen, Jackson will most likely have someone's ass before this is over.

According to the creator of the video one of the two idiots GOT ONTO the police motor. Obviously the "older brother head slap" move is not taught in defensive tactics nor exists in most use of force continuims. But imagine your reaction if you came out of QT at Covington and 285 to find some dunk joker sitting in it.

Head slap = poor choice. Imagine if the drunk dropped the bike on the ground.

Possible Arrest? I bet a few officers might articulate a DUI arrest out of it. All it takes is intoxication and control of a vehicle, right? Whether the case holds in court is another matter. This is the reason "creating a hazardous or offensive condition" charge exists. That or Public Intox. No matter what I'm willing to bet there are two Braves fans who don't hop on police motors anymore.

The officer was unprofessional. The two guys were very apologetic. They should have been ticketed for public intoxication, disturbing the peace or trespass of property and sent on thier way.
