Just Wondering

After reading Commissioner Radar's Digest for July 2010, we're kinda confused. He writes: "The emergency telephone fund covers 100 percent of all operating expenditures for the 911 system." "In fact, the emergency telephone fund finished the last fiscal year with a surplus."

If this is the case, then why are E911 operators being docked holiday pay? Or, are they being docked?

Sanitation expenditures are self sustaining according to the commissioners. Same questions. If it is true, then why are they being docked pay? Or, are they not being docked?

Same thing for Watershed.

If neither communications, sanitation or watershed are not being docked, then are the commissioners being selective who gets reduced pay and who doesn't?

Just wondering.

Same thing for us over at Watershed. We make our own money. And remember-our plants don't shut down just like you guys. We have people working holidays for less pay also!

incrufkzIf there is a surplus of e-911 funds, then the law says you must roll back the fee. Not sure I would publicize that.

YES. 911 is getting docked pay for ALL holidays. I wonder: IF COMMUNICATIONS WOULD PICKET FOR JUST 1 HOUR IN DOWNTOWN DECATUR, WITH NEWS MEDIA STANDING BY, WOULD THE B.O.C LISTEN, TAKE US SERIOUSLY AND TAKE ACTION TO STOP CUTTING OUR PAY???? UNIFORM ALSO! yes, they sure would. *IF* we could get the 5th floor to join together as ONE, stand our ground, and not waiver. --> HAA!! HA & HA again, no one wants to be bothered because of fear.....shaking my dam head

I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet here thoughout the blog unless I missed it, but does anyone remember how they county worried and complained about how they would fund employee payroll for the 27th pay period in 2010? Well, this reduction in pay for the 7 unpaid holidays seems to be there solution. Think about it. They are taking away 70 or those extra 80 hours they otherwise would have had to pay to all of us in 2010! Criminals!!! Damn cheap bastards can't do the honorable thing and just furlough us those 70 or 80 hours instead!!!

Time for a little psychology lesson from an old retired cop. Police officers are true "idealists" and willingly place themsleves on the front line and in harms way becase they beleive in the criminal justice system and believe that the county commissioners always have thier best interests at heart and would never do anything to hurt them. Elected politicians on the other hand are not idealists and work hard to get elected to push forward thier ideas about how things should be done. They do this to boost thier own ego's and to line thier own pockets. They crave attention and praise being heaped upon them. Almost all real police officers avoid the limelight and when they do get a little commendation or medal then they feel like they made some small difference in the world and someone actually saw it. Like some "rare thing has happend" and "thank you now can I please go home and try to get some sleep before the next shift". Politicians always have a much higher opinion of themselves than anyone else, especially the grunts down in the dirt dealing with all the problems the politicians have created. They will do whatever it takes to save face and make themselves look good like they have solved a problem.
Therefore, if you think a politician wont throw a police officer under the bus to make themselves look good you are totally mistaken. Not being paid for holidays you have to work....yeah right. They would never do that. Making you actualy pay to work a holiday....NAAA they would never do that. Prosecute a police officer for defending himself to apease the community even when they know he is innocent.....no way. The DA NOT prosecuting a cop killer to save face in the community....impossible. Hire a criminal to run the police department....just cant see it folks. Promote the most crooked police officers within the department to promote and protect the politicians criminal interests....yeah right. Citizens actually electing the crimnials to run the show over others who know how to do the job right....never happen. The #2 police department in the ENTIRE COUNTRY working in the 2nd richest county in the EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER bankrupt in a span of 20 years due to incompetence and outright theft....never happen. Elected sheriff's being assisinated by outgoing elected sheriff's....say what? Total idiots Graham and TeBo being intentionally placed as the chief of police....absolutely unbeleiveable. Sounds like some cheap dime novel BUT it actually happend here in DeKalb. Wake up folks. You county was stolen from you and sacrificed on the alter of political correctness. Remember all that equity you HAD in you home....stolen. Remember being able to walk down the street without fear of being robbed or shot.....gone. Remember not having to triple lock your doors when you left home for fear of being buglarized...no more. Remember all those nice clean shopping centers you used to go to......moved to other counties. Infrastructure collapsing all around you. Powerless FOP, IBPO & PBA....why should they listen to you. Schools like war zones. All I can say is I hope you like higher taxes and more crime!
I am so glad i am now a Retired DeKalb Police Officer!!!!

Hey retired cop....good analysis but the Dekalb voter black or white is too damn dumb to asorb what you said. Sorry.

The voters of DeKalb are not stupid for the most part, just very "liberal minded" and do what they are told to do, mostly from a church pulpit. Most only see "what can this politician do for me personally" and never once think what thier vote might do to everybody else. If this were not true then how would someone like Vernon Jones ever be voted into office. How about that crooked sheriff from a few years ago who killed my friend in front of his family when he tried to make things better by getting elected as sheriff. Look at some of the Magistrate Judges that are elected time and time again. One drunk every evening while wearing that black robe female judge comes to mind.
Check your (unaltered) history books and you will find that DeKalb was a very liberal place even 100 years ago and folks left Atlanta and moved to "the country" in DeKalb to get away from the hustle and bustle.
As for our pension, they have been trying for years to get thier hands on it. They want to invest it in south DeKalb etc etc, but all they really want to do is take it and use it as THEY see fit. Like the folks who earned it and saved it for decades wouldnt take care of it better. Sound familiar? It would really be nice if we had someone to actually represent us on the pension board, but alas....this is DeKalb.

You said it retired cop. I to am a retired DeKalb cop and want to say it even though it pains me to do so....GET OUT...if you have been there longer than 10 yrs you are vested, it not you will get your money back....so GET OUT there are not any real citizens living in DeKalb anymore anyway. Let the thugs have it. Move on for your own safety and sanity.

Haha could you imagine trying to find a jury of your "peers" in Dekalb say for an unfortunate wrongful death taser issue? You're a MORON if you remain working there.

Who ever said DeKalb citizens aren't stupid has never had to deal with a DeKalb County jury.

Our pension reps are pathetic zero's who treat us like mushrooms. They don't tell us s**t. I don't trust them. I don't trust the BOC either but that didn't need to be said, like who does trust them.
