Commissioners To Host "Lavish" Dinner For All County Employees

Do they ever stop?! While we are being furloughed, no cost of living raises, commission staff getting raises up to 34% yearly, retired commission staff shown favoritism being rehired and the county facing up to a 20 million dollar deficit, the commissioners decide to throw a self described "lavish" dinner for all county employees.

There are approximately 7000 employees. What is the price tag on this lavish party? At 10 dollars per person, that would be $70,000.00 dollars.

These people are simply out of control!

I wonder if they know that "facebook" is also protected and especially when you use the exact same font. I'm sure that's something that the county can get sued for too.

Ain't no way in hell I'd go to this. I hope Channel 2 does though. If you want to show appreciation pay me the wages I signed on for.

By the way are all County Employees being furloughed or just Fire and Police?

This has to be a joke. Wait maybe not, look at who is running this count

I don't think the county can afford this appreciation dinner.

Well if they furlough employee's another day they can make it work.

I bet we have another furlough day because of how much they appreciated the employees.

I can't wait until we have a buffet to appreciate the BOC and what they have done for this county.

Keep your dinner, just give me the money!

I want my money and holiday pay days. Forget this Eschelon 3000 party that is being held in a ghetto area with high rate of 44s & 45s to vehs. I would rather go to Goldfish and Maggiano's in Dunwoody to dine out.

Have they lost their minds?

I wonder how many employees will be robbed that attend.

Wait lets have extra police assigned to this employee event. That way it lest people to feed.

This county will end up like the one in California. Everyone arrested that was in office.

Spend, spend, spend. It's the Democratic way to solve everything. These buffoons must be out of their collective minds.

It's not so bad for me because I don't live in this hellhole. But we, PD/FD are paying on the backend for their recklessness.

I generally support motivational activities, but this is not the right time or place to conduct such an event.
Message for the Commissioners:
How about taking this money and start a fund for officers in need - such as the officer recently injured in Snellville? Then, his coworkers wouldn't need to discuss things like donating their sick time to him.
As a citizen, I am embarrassed by the behavior of our county officials, and I hope that I can help make a difference in changing the culture and treatment of those of you who risk your lives to protect me.
Thank you.

I saw this in my email today....."DELETE". The garbage we get in our county email....from the county is amazing. I classified this with the "Who left their lights on in the parking deck or I lost my ring in the Maloof bathroom" emails.

CRIMINALS!!!!! Contact your state officials and demand they begin to investigate this county government. I guess one of Ellis' friends has a catering company that is struggling. Chiefs enjoy your dinner, sorry that you appointed guys have to attend. Millions paid out to buy property that the owners could not sell. Questionable contracts, pension hirebacks for commissioners staff, hush money for quitting, do I need to continue. WSB TV yes please attend this dinner so that you can document the best use of tax money during these bad economic times. I'm sure by this point we could have funded at least the regular work days if not raises. No it is better to leave every citizen at risk while you furlough police and firefighters!

We should Picket at this dinner to show how we oppose it

Anon, whichever one it was, YES.......ALL county employees are getting furloughed. Ya'll act like its only police and fire getting screwed. Its everyone!!!

We all know the police have more pull since its a revenue department, but stop smearing it in our faces because we aren't getting paid either.

Also, get ready to take it in the rear again in 2011. We are ALL looking at about 15 furlough days coming!!!

IT TOOK ABOUT 10 HOURS FOR SOMEONE TO FINALLY MAKE THE POINT THAT I FIRST THOUGHT.... WHO WILL BE GETTING PAID TAXPAYER MONEY TO SPONSOR THIS LAVISH DINNER BUFFET?
I WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHO ALL IS STANDING TO MAKE A DIME OFF THIS EVENT... WHO OWNS THE VENUE? WHO IS CATERING THE EVENT?? DID I SEE SOMETHING ABOUT COMPLIMENTARY VALET PARKING??? THIS TRULY IS A MINDBOGGLING WASTE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS IN A TIME WHEN THEY SHOULD BE SAVING EVERY DOLLAR THEY CAN TO TRY TO PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT EVEN THOSE FOOLS IN DECATUR ARE SO BOLD AS TO WASTE MONEY ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN A DOWN ECONOMY. AND ONLY A FOOL WOULD BE TAKEN IN BY THE GESTURE AND BELIEVE THE BOC REALLY CARES AND APPRECIATES THEM... I SUSPECT THAT THIS IS MORE ABOUT TAKING CARE OF SOMEONE'S FRIEND THAN SHOWING ANY APPRECIATION TO THE EMPLOYEES.... I AM WITH THOSE WHO CALLED FOR A COMPLETE BOYCOTT OF THIS EVENT. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ATTEND THIS EVENT SHOULD BE CITIZENS OF THE COUNTY AND THE NEWS MEDIA ASKING THE BOC TO EXPLAIN THIS EXPENSE TO THE TAXPAYERS OF DEKALB AND JUSTIFY THE EXPENSE TO THE EMPLOYEES WHO ARE BEING FURLOUGHED AND OTHERWISE LOSING PAY. SOMEONE CALL THE NEWS MEDIA AND ASK THEM TO CRASH THIS EVENT........

Those folks in Decatur manage taxpayer money like those fools in Washington, DC. It is no more palatable in Decatur than it is in Washington! Maybe DeKalb needs a Tea Party demonstration at the courthouse. Anybody wanna form a Dekalb County Tea Party? There are enough DeKalb County taxpayers out there who read this blog to step forward and do something about the mismanagement of your tax dollars. Employees have no real control. The taxpayers need to step forward and address some of these issues directly. Is there anyone out there with the intelligence and gall to call them out? I wonder!

How professional! Is this a county commission or a college student government? A facebook party, sponsored by the Dekalb BOC. And, you wonder why we call you all the new City of Atlanta/Fulton County.
