Yikes! 90 Goes Down!

Thank goodness everyone is OK!

To talking head Amanda Davis; You probably asked the most stupid question in your career. "Does this happen often?" Are you freaking serious?

Leave Amanda Davis alone. She was probably just drunk again.

Well I guess 90 will be on call 6 days a week now rather than 5....

I'm glad everyone is ok.

Hopefully we can afford a new bird soon.

How many furlough days will we have in 2011 to replace 90?

Anonymous said...

This was a used one to begin with.

How many days off do you get for a preventable helicopter 41.

Riddle me this Batman. How long before Lil Vernon gets personally involved in the "selection" of the new bird. Watch, wait and listen. It will happen.

I bet you CEO & BOC will not give away million of dollars away too fast to get 90 repaired soon.

Anonymous said...

My bet? It's at least a year before it's replaced, if at all.

Has anyone thought about the fact that we probably have insurance on these just like the rest of the fleet..

I can see us asking APD Phoenix for air support for in progress calls. Hopefully they will remember to stay on a Dekalb channel when they are overhead.

Glad the fly-boys are safe! And yes the helo is insured. A lot of rumors were flying around when the helo's were first purchased, that they had been fitted to executive standards. This was untrue and they were outfitted for search and rescue. I do understand that Vern used the helo's a fair amount for flying around VIP's interested in investing in DeKalb. Vern also wanted to add a helo-pad on the roof of the new courthouse but the roof couldn't easily modified to hold the weight. Personally I thought the MD 500's were better fitted for police use. But the county wanted more payload at the expense of manueverability.

A word to command on the subject of refueling the helo's at the auxilary pad. The fuel truck is normally parked about 75 feet from the pad and full of JP-5. If a helo was to crash at the aux pad like what happened at Covington airport the results would be catastrophic for the helo crew. The fuel truck needs to be parked behind a berm at a further distance than is current. A long time ago I was 200 yards from a Sea Cobra that crashed. Rotor blades went through the side of the hanger I was in like machine gun fire and we found a piece of rotor two miles away buried in the side of the Lockheed wind tunnel. It was a miracle no one was seriously hurt. This is serious shit and I recommend an outside review of the aviation procedures used by the helo division.

Best of luck mates and be safe out there!

Ummmm whats wrong withthe other sitting on top of Recorder's Court. And the county is self insured.

Dam you guys are pissin' me off.
Try to think about the officer involved, and his frame of mind over this. Stop using this event for your political agenda, which I support by the way, and imagine how you would feel if that were you. Imagine his guilt if it's not a mechanical failure, and appreciate his guts to stay in the game for the greater good of Dekalb citizens. Accidents happen, and I am so thankful that this officer and the instructor are able to physically recover. Don't f up their emotional recovery by making jokes and using this as an outlet for your disdain for the Dekalb County government.

Glad to hear that everyone on board was okay. Insurance can replace the helicopter but not our pilot and fellow officer, as well as the trainer.

I find it very disturbing that brothers and sisters in blue are on this page bitching about furlough days and the price of a helicopter when we could have easily lost one if our own. To inquire how many furlough days it will take to replace a bird??? Rude and disrespectful. Unacceptable comments!!! Be thankful our pilot is alive. How bout that? Be thankful we are not going to another officers funeral...again. How bout that? Grow up, be grateful for what you have, and be proud of the job you do. No matter how bad it may get around here, have self pride in your job. I am thankful our pilot walked away from that crash! Be safe fellow officers.

I'm sure insurance will cover the helicopter less any deductible. What concerns me is whether or not the payment the BOC receives for it will go toward another helicopter instead of back into the general fund to pay for who knows what else. Or someone's severence package. Or someone else's contract to do oil changes. Or some other CEO or BOC staff member's lavish raise. You get the picture.

glad the men are okay...but its not like we really had access to 90 lately...always on call at night..but thankfully they are okay..could have been much worse..least they were at an airfield where they didnt crash on a house or a patrol car...it was probaly an old pos like most of the patrol cars..

Glad the officers are ok. I guess we are the only County in the United States that are having finantial problems. Stop bitching about having a job and worry about yourselves and this place will be alot better off.

Glad everyone is ok!

But let's talk business here. How often does 90 catch perps? They get called a lot, but they never seem to find anyone. We're spending a lot of money on a unit that helps capture perps about 5% of the time.

Anonymous said...

Get your facts straight. This was the unit that just had a $500,000 engine overhaul. Which was required. The officer should of been your first concern, but some of you are the same one's that can't wait to get your free meal while working and dont give a sh-- about are job. Who care what Davis said she doesnt work for us and we all know that track history. Ummm, by the way Sgt is ok, but sore.

God is good! The officer and the trainer made it out alive. Everyone be very blessed to know where your next paycheck is coming from, that you have health insurance and that you have one another to rely on for back up when needed. Sgt now has to deal with IA(possible) and the Chain of Command who can be a B to deal with. Call the ones involved in the accident, check on them and make sure that they are okay. That is what FAMILY do. And for Heaven Sake don't ask him to explain what happened! He has already explained to the higher up countless of times. Or just take them out for drinks to get their mind off the BS!

You have shown to all of us the kind of GARBAGE our department hires now because of the way the BOC treats us. If the BOC showed their appreciation towards us, we wouldn't have to hire illiterate morons, like yourself! Let's dissect your ignorant post!

"Get your facts straight. This was the unit that just had a $500,000 engine overhaul. (That's not bad! You posted two sentences with only one grammatical error! When you give a command, you're supposed to end the sentence with an exclamation point!) Which was required. (Uh Oh! There's a fragment! We're off to a bad start!) The officer should of been your first concern, but some of you are the same one's that can't wait to get your free meal while working and dont give a sh-- about are job. (I don't know where to begin with this sentence. Did you finish 4th grade? "Should of?" I think you meant to say, "Should HAVE." "One's" isn't correct. "One" should never be made plural, unless you're talking about the denomination of money. You didn't put an apostrophe in "don't." You put an apostrophe in "one's" which makes no sense at all. You also used "are" when you should have used "our." You're supposed to know the difference between "our" and "are" before you move on to 5th grade!) Who care what Davis said she doesnt work for us and we all know that track history. "Who care?" Didn't you learn how to conjugate verbs? It should say, "Who CARES!" You also forgot an apostrophe in "doesn't.") Ummm, by the way Sgt is ok, but sore.

If you are an officer, please stop posting and writing reports! You're an embarrassment to those of us who take the job seriously!

Who is the teacher that we have among us?

Get the hell out of here.

Just what we need a grammar expert.
If you are so well educated why are you doing this job?

Well--pronouns- adverbs and adjectives just don't excite me anymore.

Anonymous said...

Glad the officer and instructor is okay.We can always replace 90. I often visit this post to hear officers complain. If I really truly felt the way about this job like some of you all do (I probably will find me something else to do). We all have two choices in life;(1)do the job,(2)or find another one.

I don’t like the grammar police either but he is right on this one. And there have been some bad hires over the last few years who can barely spell their own name. And by the way, there are a lot of well educated police officers working for this police department. They may get overshadowed by the number of dumbasses but they are here.

Sgt. Williams, the chopper pilot, is o.k. and that is by far the most important matter pertaining to the crash.

I'd hit it!

All bitching aside this is not one for us to vent over. Thank god they both were o.k. Lives of our brothers first and politics second. Don't worry guys the CEO and BOC will give us material quick enough to resume bitching over. To the SGT. were are behind you.

Helos are a challenging aircraft. The Police function makes it more challenging and hazardous.

Kudos to the crew for getting out in one piece and under their own power.

Hardware can be replaced, men cannot.

Thank God everyone on board is okay. I don't want to attend another officer's funeral. Screw the copter itself, I'm thankful that things worked out the way they did and no one was hurt.
