Keep Up The Good Fight

Ok folks, so we made a mistake. While we were rushing from extra job to extra job, we stopped in for open enrollment. We were left we a sick feeling when we learned our health insurance is increasing $1200.00 dollars a year.

Then we learned that Burrell is still giving the chosen few money hand over fist in way of cars and car allowances. Facing 12-17 furlough days in 2011, this left our heads swimming, wondering how he could be so arrogant and the taxpayers stand by idle. We are concerned about to putting food on the table and telling our children that extracurricular activities are going to be cut back.

Some may be able to take such a hit in the way of furlough days, increase in insurance and increase in pension contributions. In our household, this is going to cause problems.

So, quit frankly, in the mist of being pissed off, we were given the information about the insurance buy out plan and failed to research it before posting.

We just hope our critics are putting as much effort into ending our plight of reduces pay and benefits by being active in the F.O.P., P.B.A and contacting local homeowners associations and respective commissioners.

The real focus should be on our families livelihood being threatened by our elected officials.

Who knows, maybe somebody high in the food chain read the insurance buy out and will take it seriously in 2011

Feces occurs. Keep fighting the fight.

Not to get off topic, BUT, is the ticket slowdown still in effect or am I the only one in Center Precinct still writing warnings?

You know, sometimes mistakes are a good thing. What this did illuminate for the CEO and BOC is that there are always creative solutions to problems. Wow! Maybe a light bulb will flash in Dekalb.
On a separate note, Burrell and BOC - don't you realize citizens ARE watching everything you do????

This makes me absolutely sick. Furlough days, no raises for over 4 years, health insurance is now unaffordable for most of us, and lieutenants threatening officers if they don't "improve their productivity"..... It just goes on and on. I get physically sick every day when I go to work. Sergeants are answering calls and writing reports cause we don't have enough people to even minimally man the watch anymore - but we better write more tickets cause they don't want to hear about anything but productivity increases in CompStat. OK DeKalb - you finally killed your Police Department. Just a matter of time now.

Let the 1st Lt or feakin Capt. say something to me about ticket productivity. As long as I'm answering my calls and patrolling my territory and I can account for my time on my PO sheet then they can kiss my freakin a$$...and I'm not shy about telling anyone that....I've done it before and I'll do it again. Trust me they all know it and that's why they won't say a damn word to me...the 1st one that does then you need to put paper on them for creating a hostile work environment. ...but be sure you document your activities well so it doesn't come back and bite you...the bitches are scared to say anything to me....

BOTTOM LINE YES THE TICKET SLOW DOWN IS STILL IN EFFECT.
IF MAJOR STATHIS IS TELLING HIS GUYS TO WRITE A MINIMUM OF 3 A DAY, THEN GUESS WHAT THAT IS CALLED A QUOTA.
NO SUPERVISOR CAN TELL YOU TO WRITE ANY GIVEN NUMBER OF CITATIONS UNLESS THEY WANT TO EXPLAIN IT TO THE MEDIA, IN WHICH CASE I CAN ARRANGE THAT AS WELL.

Anonymous said...

I did some research on quota's several years ago when the departement started the 2 cits per 10 hour shift. I understood that it was against federal law to have quota's. I could not find anything relating to it. Maybe one of the officers reading this can do some research and come up with an answer and post it.

Laws against ticket quotas have been passed in several states, but not in GA. However, the existence of ticket quotas can cause a huge problems in court since any defense attorney can use it to cast doubt on whether the ticket was deserved, or just part of meeting a set number of citations. I'm not aware of any federal laws regarding ticket quotas.

Blogmaster,

Alright you made a mistake, but here's the problem. In your original post it sounded like you thought the buyout was a bad idea. Or maybe you'll just take any opportunity to take a swipe at the department/county. Now it sounds like you think it's a good idea. Soooo which is it????

For those of you that blindly follow this blog and assume all that is said/written is true let this be a lesson. Better yet, follow the advice of Neil Boortz who tells his audience to not believe a thing he says unless they already know it to be true.

Guess what is happening now my friends. I was on a furlough day recently but Superior Court called me in on a case. Of course I was forced to go in and testify. So on top of being furloughed I had to drive 45 minutes to Court and testify all for free. Go figure if it hasn't happened to you yet it will soon especially with several more furlough days expected next year. You guys keep locking up folks if you want to, but if you have to testify on your furlough day the Court could care less. The same will probably happen for recorders court so keep writting citations too. Good luck its gloomy around here.

10:48, thanks for the info.

As a "gold badge".....I expect my guys to be productive. If a long copy is warranted....then write a long copy. I'm good with a stack if warnings.....if you give a slew of warnings and are being "nosey ", the arrests will follow..... my guys will find warrant based arrests.

Why do we have a police pal program when we are losing officers left and right. I guess its what Ellis wants to make him look warm and fuzzy. Those officers need to be answering calls. They drive around the county do what every day?

Our beloved citizens. Police officers are paid, not for what we do, but what we prevent. Home invasions, Burglaries, and Rape are "Oh it could never happen to me" nightmares that come true. The walls that hold back the monsters are growing very, very thin. Burrell can run away with all your money,he has enough to move away...but do YOU? Help us Help you. Speak up! Vote them out! Make them do the right thing! Or we can all ride this crazy train off it's rails...but in the end it's your communities that will suffer.

I agree with Anon about although the blog was embarrassingly wrong about the insurance buyout the blog did offer a suggestion for saving insurance costs to the county that should be followed up upon. (but will not because that's how DeKalb works.)

To Risk management; Your new insurance plans suck and suggest that the DeKalb rulers and risk management are in the tank for Obama-care. Going to a single insurance provider for each plan is stupidity as there will be no competition and the sole provider can raise rates with no fear of losing the consumer. In case no one in Risk Management or the BOC has bothered to research. 60 percent of Americans want Obama-care repealed entirely or parts of it at least.

I know its been a tough year for Risk Management. Losing nearly 20 percent of your staff whilst having to support the pension incentive plan has stretched y'all to the limit. However the move to a single provider for insurance plans is unprecedented for Risk Management and indicate DeKalb politics rather than doing what is best for the employees is the driving force for the move to a single provider.

With every move DeKalb government broadcasts its contempt for employee welfare. It is difficult to reconcile the DeKalb BOC Democrats platform supporting labor when they have screwed DeKalb employees every step of the way for the last dozen years. No raises. No cost of living increases. Reduced benefits and pension. No dialogue between the BOC and employees.

And just when DeKalb employees don't think it can get any worse some new revelation comes out that the CEO and BOC are legally exempt from county furloughs, that BOC and CEO staffs are still receiving really nice raises, and the entire fracken' CEO staff is receiving a 500 dollar a month transportation allowance.

If I was you guys, I would be unionizing. It's your only logical hope for respect and negotiation with the BOC. And I hate unions!

Best of luck mates, this truly sux!

Loflyer,

You are retired now, please find something to do with your time instead of writing long post. You retired and left the county so be gone mate, you didn't have the guts to speak up when you worked for this county so why the long post now.

Anon 2:51: you post "you didn't have the guts to speak up when you worked for this county so why the long post now."

I did mate, which was why I was banned from the CEO's office a week after Ellis took power. What have you done?

None of you will protest what is going on around here except Jeff Wiggins and he is protected by the union.

DeKalb employees have been way too submissive to the BOC and CEO's office. Vernon Jones made it clear that we would be fired if employees offered resistance. (and fired or forced the resignation of some damn good employees) At this point I believe there is safety in numbers. A 200 employee protest at the BOC meeting with signs and media coverage would do wonders. Just look at what happened when Grady Hospital wanted to charge 5 dollars for medical prescription drugs. Activists went ballistic and bussed in 50 homeless with signs to picket the board meeting and the BOC caved like a house of cards.

I have earned my right to speak here. I love DeKalb and we all know that DeKalb government is badly screwed up. Y'all are welcome to ban me from this blog. I generally stay out of the police-centric threads but on DeKalb government operations I am an expert and I will continue to comment.

Best of luck, mates!

??? Are you frigging kidding me? The ones that retired from DeKalb grossly outnumber the ones that work there. Most if not all spoke up when the worked there. It seems like now there is a problem because all the outstanding officers still working have yet to unite and get some things done. Several years ago a union was started and scared the heck out of the county they came across with raises and alot of other benefits. Then the County officials realized the officers that started the union were leaving or they could force them out. Get organized find a police union with qualified lawyers and let them take the fight back to those officals. But whatever you do stay together as one. You can kick all the retired guys off the blog and your lifes but it would be the worst mistake you can make. Learn from History and try not to repeat it. That is all I will ever say on this. Dont worry you will never have to hear from this retired officer again. Do realize though we have learned and the retired guys still stick together.

As an outsider who has been reading this blog for a long time, I think LoFlyer is the wrong person to take your anger out on. Seems to me that he did a lot for a long time to support you guys, but even if he hadn't, why on earth would you want to kick one of your CURRENT supporters, because he CLEARLY loves you guys. You NEED all the support you can get, if we citizens are going to lend a voice to your cause. I hope you'll reconsider your position, and recognize that an apology is in order. Tough times, so be grateful for what you have, and work on BUILDING your fan base, not tearing it down.
Thank you sincerely for your years of service, and I hope you are enjoying your new path.

Loflier....stay with us !!!!

Whoever it was that asked LoFlyer to leave should read over the last several months (years?) of posts and realize this person is exactly the type of person needed on this blog.

If LoFlyer's posts are too long then skip them....it is called the scroll button in case you are not smart enough to figure it out..... I mean really...

Most likely you are a mole from the CEO/BOC wanting folks who know what is really going on to leave this blog.

ps-off topic but... what ever happened to the CEO's transparency committee? Yeah, I thought so. Maybe it is so transparent we cannot see it...ha!

To the idiot that said he went to court on a furlogh day and testified for free. To get paid you either fill out an OT slip and turn it in (you will be paid Court time at your straight time not OT rate) or you get a signed subpeona from the DA and go downstairs and the Court Clerk will cut you a check on the spot. No one can make you appear and not pay you.
Some of you rookies really need to start asking some veteran officers for advice before you get on here and start bitching about stuff you don't know anythiing about.
