No Pension News From Our Representative

Some have been asking for updated information about our pension such as quarterly reports and minutes. Robert Robertson used to keep us updated via county employee eamil, but nothing in resent history. The last time the county updated pension minutes on the county website was July 2010.

The last time we heard from Robert Roberson was September 17, 2010, here on the blog. We guess he felt pressure for responding and has been told to cease.

We believe when pension board elections comes around, LoFlyer should seriously consider running to represent the employees.

But when we do learn anything, we'll be sure to post it.

The pension boards lack of communication with employees is unbelieveable and unacceptable. Thay have failed to keep us informed for years and years as far as I am concerned. Maybe I have been looking in the wrong places but I expected my pension "representative" which for the most part has been Robertson, but as far as I am concerned he has failed miserably. That is only my opinion. The pension should explain in detail the $43 million to the county. Was it a gift, a loan, what are the specifics? Are our money managers getting us a good return? Who the hell knows and who determines their performance? Why do we have so have so many different money managers and are the commissions negoated?.There are comments about the BOC promising more of a contribution to the pension in return for the $43 million to the early retirement, which was apparently a failure and the failure of the BOC to hold up their end of the bargain and no challange from the pension board? What gives? I really think we need an advocate to eyeball what the BOC and the pension board are doing. This pension is probably the only positive for working here and I am beginning to fear that something us not on the up and up. The lack of communication from the pension board breeds all kinds of rumors and questions. I don't know who LoFlier is but he would have my votes as my pension representative. I do not trust politicians and especiously not our BOC. I suspect that they are drooling all over themselves about how to get to our pension. How about you? The time to sit back and let someone else worry about our future is over. We need to be more proactive about our future.

Do you have to be retired to serve on the pension board? Where do you find the requirements to serve on this board?

For giggles look up-google, the voting membership for the Pension Board. CEO Ellis, two people selected by the BOC, two dekalb employees, one retired rep. and one person picked by all 6 of the rest. Think it might tilt toward the money bleeding politicians?

Hargh! You don't know me in meetings! Unless I have an active involvement I tend to fall asleep. I detest financial meetings especially.
However some times you have to suck it up and do what's right for everyone. Unless I find some really high paying and satisfying job, I will strongly consider running for the retiree's position when it comes open.
I guarantee this ain't gonna be one bit of fun for anyone, neither the board nor myself. I would also be placed into contact with some people I have learned to despise, the BOC, the CEO and their top staff.
I doubt that I would be the best choice for the retiree representative position. My background is technical and not financial. All I could offer is honesty, communication and would conscientiously try my best for retirees and employees.
You guys need every break you can get. You have received nothing but bad news for the last two years, and even the blind can see the pension board and the commissioners failed horribly last year on the retirement incentive plan. It was bad for the county citizens and bad for the employees. It was lucky bastards like me that made out like bandits.
I think we realize the retiree representative did not do his job and represent the retirees or employees adequately, the same goes for the other employee representatives also.
Communications with the pension board is a joke. The first thing I would do is crank up an official pension board web-site with the minutes, financials and other vital information affecting us that no one seems to know about. It would also allow you guys to express some of your views and questions to the board members and get a timely response.
I don't know what I have gotten myself into, but you guys will get my best. What are they going to do do if I screw up? Fire me?
I knew I shouldn't have looked at this blog today (like I didn't yesterday). Thanks for your confidence, mates! I'll do my best for you guys.

If I am running for the board as retirement representative, (and I don't even know when the election is, we could be talking years.)
Y'all need to know who I am.
Ken Choate
Ex-network engineer for Dekalb County government for 25 years, retired last May and loving it.
My email address is kencnet@hotmail.com I have been ignoring it lately but with the current events I will monitor and respond to any inquiries on a daily basis.
If anyone knows when the retiree pension board representative election is due, please let us know.
I do not look forward to this one bit, mates. I am afraid of what I will find and what I will do when I find out. Rest assured you will be in the thick of it. I rely on this blog for solid advice and you have steered me straight.
Best of luck, guys!

$300 MORE a month for pension contributions on top of insurance increases on top of furlough days = more extra jobs and more time away from family. Thanks BOC.

I have placed a couple of emails to Wendy S. at Ch46, and Megan M. of the AJC asking for contact information to the pension board. I will call Risk Management on Monday and see if they have any contact info. Between all three I should be able to come up with something. Wendy is pissed at me because I insulted acting chief communication officer Burke Brennon in an email to Wendy. Burke replaced Sheila Edwards and covered for Vernon as his communications officer during his tenure.
Good luck, mates!

Am I the only Officer receiving a letter from the Police Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund stating the County has not made payment from my automatic draft from my paycheck? It has been going thru fine the past 10 years?
