This Thanksgiving I Was Thankful For....

During this holiday season, while we are being furloughed and wondering how we are going to make ends meet, we found someone who is thankful they have a take home vehicle.

This DeKalb County vehicle was photographed on Thanksgiving Day parked in front of Bass Word Pro Shop on Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County GA. It's not like the driver was working in DeKalb County and ran inside a store for a snack and a drink.

Yet a another example of wasted taxpayer money through the take home car program.

Haha...I remember once I found a water and sewer truck parked outside of a certain motel...it had been sitting there for a couple of hours...when we called a supervisor to come get the vehicle, a water and sewer employee came out of one of the rooms and began yelling at us for being near "his" truck and then saw his supervisor and got very quiet...don't know whatever happened with that because I handed it over to the supervisor and went 10-8. Look on the brightside though...if water and sewer are getting away with this in marked vehicles, just imagine where the shared out seized vehicles that are supposed to be for things like undercover ops are going...oh and Gwinnett is still hiring...

Just how many non-on call employees have the greatest perk of all? A free car and gas for the year.

I wish they put the illegal tint in all the precinct uniform cars. Oh I forgot it for special people who want to stay hidden from view.

How much money is waste on all the illegal tint on the police units?

Who knows....there might have been a raging puddle in the middle of the store!

the watershed management employee that is assigned MM#3159 MAYBE in trouble now. Merry Xmas!

There more DeKalb County own vehicles driving around outside DeKalb everyday. No one lives in this county. I like to save 4 or 5 hundred dollars a month in gas too.

Have you seen the marshals units all tinted out, I think they look sharp. You cannot see who inside these units.

That was good, gotta love this place.

I wonder if was getting fishing equipment for the south river project. Feed the hungry program.

all jokes put to side, if we don't get take homes soon this department will go down the drain.

of course we need to give a class on the do's and dont's. Also have all officer's with take homes be on call. This can and will work,if we start thinking outside the box.

I know morale will get better and this will be a safer place to work, play and live

Yep pick on the employee who drove a car to the Bass Pro. Is this the best we can do?

Anonymous said...

Yep, the guy at Bass Pro also got hit with the furlough days too. And I bet he hasn't had a raise in 3 years either. Wonder what the moral is like in his department? And you guys are bitch in about him screwing off?
Shame on all you pd that are so caught up in your own misery that you dont see the county for what it is.......a sorry place to work for. Quit trying to save this dump and move on PD!!!!!!!!

Just love how the guy is breaking policy, at his own choosing, wasting taxpayer money, at his own choosing, and somehow he is a victim.

Yes, he is getting furloughed just like the rest of us. But the taxpayers are paying for his transportation to and from work, and apparently for personal errands outside the county, unlike the rest of us.

This is pathetic . We are turning into crabs in a bucket . Its obvious . Everyone knows the county gov police included is run by inept civilians. Always have always will. Its democracy at its finest. We all moan and groan about wanting take home cars. Ok lets say uniform gets em will you do ten hours go work j2 then go home in your unit shower go to bed and get right back up in two hours to go handle pri 3 calls for 4 more hours? Be careful about what you wish for. I have a takehome car . Its got 112k miles on it the radio doesn't work but I'm on call 3x a month and 1 week a month. With NO county cell phone. Its a bitch in every way imaginable . Trust me a car won't make you stay here. If you hate broccoli you can put cheese on it and it ll still suck. Its that simple.

Anonymous said...

Screw that. He is not a victim and no one is pickin on him. He is disregarding the rules that many of us who have cars follow to a T. I have had a car for several years and I have gone out of my way on countless occassions to not break the rules. No I don't want a cookie, that is what I am supposed to do and that what he is supposed to do. I hope is loses that car.

The BOC and CEO are still laughing at us saying look they get each other in trouble they will never work together. We can keep putting the screws to them. Yes he broke county policy. But I’d like the first stone thrown to be by a person who has never broken county policy in their career. Now shut up and get back to the real problems and stop going after the other parts of DeKalb’s back bone. You people are all bitch and no action.

Does he need a take home car? Probably not. But some people need to read the policy on take home cars. If he was on his way home from work, and he just lives around the corner, he's not violating county policy.

Anonymous said...

How do you know this person was violating policy? If their take-home car policy is the same as that of the police department, then this person could have been on call and using his county vehicle with permission. He could have been on his way home, or on a "short jaunt."

The level of ire that this blog aims at those with take-home cars is disappointing. In the end, take-home cars would be better for everyone The reasons have already been outline in past posts.

Whether we work for the Police Department, the Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney, or the Department of Watershed Management, we are all employed to serve this county. It's one thing to point out outright corruption or policy error, but it's quite another to devote so much time to tearing each other down when we are all on the same team -- the team that wants to see a well-run, financially solvent DeKalb County with lower levels of violent crime.

We're never going to get there like this.

Tell me again how posting this picture on the blog makes this county better. This blog is starting to become a gossip blog and to be honest it really isn't that informative anymore like it use to be. This post will not posted but what's new the blog master post what he wants to post to make his point.

Oh this is gonna chap all of you who wanted to hang the guy at Bass Pro. Word is he was there buying a rain suit (with a county credit card). And, he s not in trouble.
Jokes on you PD. Commissioners depend on that oath you all took......and 90% of you honor it. GO ANSWER YOUR CALLS!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

What if the employee assigned to this vehicle is in an on-call status....then he has every right to take it with him. He's not being paid extra for being on-call and I know all about that...no way in hell I'm going to sit my ass around on-call stuck at the house waiting for the freakin phone to ring...Think logically you freakin fools...WHEN YOU'RE ON-CALL YOU ONLY HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME YOU'RE EXPECTED TO RESPOND. You guys have truly discredited yourselves...especially the blog master...this is not the way to exploit a ligitimate use of a vehicle and if you work in this department then you know this all too well. Like a bunch of buzzards on a dead carcass...
If this was a violation of policy then so be it but before you go pimpin someone out maybe you should gather your facts.

COUNTY POLICY, COUNTY POLICY, COUNTY POLICY... If that's the extent of your intellect congratulations, you're a robot. Try and think for yourself outside the box for once.

It is not hard to figure out that the people running this blog have a hard on for anyone with a take home car. They have obviously been losers and not able to get a position so they could have one. Get over it and bust your ass and maybe you too can have a car.

A rain suit at Bass Pro, on a county credit card. Interesting purchase for a county employee.

Anonymous said...

Its all about how you understand the HUMOR in the picture setting.

Its a point of wasteful spending by the county.

Yes TAKE HOME CARS are a waste unless your on-call all the time.

Anonymous said...

Come on, this is a joke and a case of the pot calling the kettle black...big time...Almost everyone in the county including PD brass, detectives, IA and other special units etc ALL do personal business on duty or on the way home in an assigned county car. It's BS to even have this Bass Pro deal on the blog. This entry makes the blog look very very bad. Get it off ...A suporter of the blog.

This post has definitely caused the blog master to lose credibility. I'm assigned a vehicle because of my on-call status and yes I take it with me when I go out because of the necessity to be able to respond in a timely manner. I don't get any extra pay for this it's part of my job but like the previous poster stated, I'm not going to be tied to my home because I have to be on-call. If I need to go somewhere or want to go then I go, and the car goes with me with a change of clothes. There's been many times I've been called out while on my off day when I was away from the house. There is no way in hell that I had time to drive back to my house change clothes and swap vehicles to respond in a timely manner.
Again as stated the BLOG MASTER has lost credibility as far as I'm concerned..

A county employee has to go to Bass Pro to buy a rain suit and in a county watershed management vehicle? Oh please! Give me a freakin' break! If that's the best explanation you can come up with maybe your comments would be better served just keeping them to yourself. Oh well...just another prime example of our tax dollars working for us. If it had been one of our police officers in a Dekalb police unit doing the same thing you can bet the news media would be all over it! Keith Barker and his little squeeze over at Watershed showed us all what Watershed is about.

To all you naysayers regarding the blog master having lost credibility. Two words to you all: YOU WISH!

This blog is getting pathetic!! All ya'll do is complain about who's got what and who doesn't have something. Now the bitch is take home cars. Those of you in uniform, if you don't like it, go to CID. Then you can have a damn car and see what bs comes with it. Its obvious you don't realize the responsibilities of being a detective and the perk is a car. I'm on call many times, I have more court time than you, I lose out on extra jobs at times, and I have to wear a damn tie and buy clothes for work. I don't get extra pay so I appreciate the car for the extras I do. I haven't bitched about my pay and no raise in 4 years now, just because I have a car. I accept that fact. I do complain about the way this county wastes money on these crap projects that don't produce money for the county. I suck it up and stay in CID because of the take home. The focus is on the BOC and wasteful spending, you need to unite and pick your battles. Your CID folks won't take the extra workload with no car and no extra pay, Somebody has to do the job and I don't see any of ya'll stepping up and willing to do it without a take home car. Let's get focused on what this blog is designed for and stop this out of control spending.

Why didn't they center the county logo on the truck door. It would look bettre :-)

Okay...Okay! Before you all pass judgement on this Watershed employee; find out the facts!! He was working 16 hours on his Holiday covering the entire County. Yes we do use rain suits and hip boots! We use whatever is needed to help us keep dry to continue performing our jobs! So next time you turn on your faucet or flush your toilet make sure you remember; WE ARE 24/7 just like you! We maintain and repair water mains so you have safe drinking water! We maintain and repair sewer mains so you can flush your sh__!!!!!

Amen....Finally someone from Watershed Mgnt...don't blame the ignorant Officers who posted here on something they had no clue about...blame the pathetic BLOG MASTER for even making this an issue...bet you screen this comment don't cha BLOG Master....why don't you show your true colors.....maybe APOLOGIZE!!

I'll be the first to come to this guys defense, like it's been said don't go busting someone out until you know all the facts

To the blog master, please filter comments that make us look like disgruntled children. No this is not a 1st Amendment issue, this blog should be a tool to voice legitmate beefs with the county, not complaints targeting individual employees. County policies are broken everyday, so what, get caught pay the price and keep it moving. I urge all officers to keep your comments professional. And to the blogmaster consider guiding this blog in that direction. Because if this blog loses credibility, we all lose.
