They need to have a good look at the waste of money by the school board.

Save money and abolish school security guards. The DeKalb Police respond to every call at a school anyway. How many millions will this save?

Oh Mr. Ellis were just thankful to have a job, don't worry about us in your budget. Maybe you can find some more severance pay for additional hush money for the ones who resign this year. Don't forget all the wasteful spending of last year guys. Lets hope the citizens hold these criminals feet to the fire this year when it comes to their tax money!

The school system probably could save money by reducing or eliminating the schools security guards. But the County budget and the school budget are totally separate and one does not affect the other. The only thing in common between the two is that both the County and the school system are woefully inefficient and waste a lot of money in their missions of creating jobs and rewarding the favored ones

Folks,
This is the beginning. A series of meetings to hash out the budget allocations for 2011 amongst the CEO and BOC will be taking place over the next 30 to 60 days. Lets attend some of those meetings and at least be seen and possibly heard from.
I was at the BOC meeting on December 7th last week. I will not say if I was in uniform or not but I have to say I was embarrassed. There were 4 uniformed officers, 3 upper level command staff members, 3 CID detectives, and several officers in plain clothes, some with their families.
A few citizens spoke up for us and I believe citizens will continue to speak up for us because they know we have been getting and are continuing to get the short end of the stick from the county. But next time, lets give them more to point at than just 4 uniformed officers in the corner when they are pointing out who they are speaking up for.
There are strength in numbers....showing a united front to the royal DeKalb Govt may not be as instantaneously effective as many of us would like.... but we can at least start fighting the fight with the citizens and other county employees at these meetings by showing up and being seen and maybe even heard!! Stay safe out there brothers and sisters.

First rule of politics: Get elected.

Second rule of politics: Get re-elected.

All else is irrelevant.

Ellis will propose a tax hike, one he know will fail, just like it failed last year. This gives him political cover so he can say, "Well, the reason we have fewer services is because I didn't get the tax hike I asked for."

The BOC also gets political cover so they can say, "Hey, I kept taxes from increasing." It's a win-win politically.

In order to change that dynamic, you have to make the point to the CEO, the BOC and the citizens, "This is what will happen if you don't do X,Y and Z." If those things are more unacceptable (politically), you then get what you want.

It's all about votes. They, the CEO and the BOC, need to understand how they are going to lose votes by taking the actions they are.

All else is irrelevant.
