Monsignor Donald Kiernan, Former Dekalb Police Chaplin To Retire

Monsignor Kiernan’s special ministry is to law enforcement. He founded the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police in 1962 and served as its director and chaplain for 20 years. He also served as chaplain of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the DeKalb County police and the Atlanta offices of the ATF and the FBI.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I doubt that many are left who know Mnsr. Kiernan. He was once a prominent figure around the police department and everyone knew him. He was pretty well squeezed out and replaced during the Moody regime, which was a real shame. He is a great priest and was an absolute asset to law enforcement across this state. I wish him well in his retirement!

I have had the pleasure of knowing Monsignor Kiernan since the late '60s when he was my parish priest. Years later I saw him at HQ and was thrilled to learn he was our Chaplin. It was a sad day when he was no longer affiliated with DeKalb County. I wish him well in his retirement!

I very well remember the Monsignor, he was always close by and available during my years with DeKalb PD in the 70's and 80's....
if anyone sees my post and remembers me, please contact me at marsha.fuller@dhs.gov (used to be Cofield).

Monsignor Kiernan was a sweet and gentle man, who served the community. May he enjoy his retirement!

Thank you so much, Monsignor Kiernan, for all your years of service. You were always available, kind and gentle. I hope you enjoy your retirement!

I saw you often, as I was a DeKalb Officer from 1976 - 1988.
