WIll Burrell Ellis Ever Stop?

A contract obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows DeKalb has hired Steen Miles for 4 months to provide a strategic communications plan for the water and sewer problems. And her 4 month salary is? $35,000.00!

That's just $1000.00 less than a rookie police officer makes in a year. Of course not counting furlough days.

How does Ms. Miles describe her salary? "$35,000, those are pennies in the industry.” At least we agree on one thing.

While Burrell continues to spend wildly, the commissioners say no to property tax hike.

Its also a way to buy off Ms. Steen as she usually rants on County Gov't in one of those local news papers. Wonder if this $35,000 was bid out?

Was is bid out?!? You are kidding right? Of course it wasn't, it was exactly what it looks like: a pay-off to keep her mouth shut.

The CEO has lots of crap like this going on in every Department. Watershed Dept has the most going on now because it has the current biggest pot of slush funds. Previously this had been the 2001 and 2006 Bond programs, so many millions were wasted in these programs it is disgusting. The term they use for thief around here is consultant.

Blackmail and the Burrell Buddy System is what makes Dekalb County the laughing stock of the news and the country.

A screen writer couldn't write this stuff as part of a soap opera if he wanted too, but the antics in Dekalb County CEO are an ongoing theme of what this county is capable of.

What makes Steen Miles so special as there are probably 1000 people out their who could do a better job for much less. She must have the "goods" on B.E. Besides all this, what does B.E. care, it isn'this money.

"And the beat goes on" in paradise.

Maybe someone should file a Freedom of Information Act request to see what the fine citizens received for their $35K? Just sayin. I think Anon1 is dead on BTW.

Now see, THIS is a righteous rant. More like this, please.

No matter how you slice and dice this, the LAST thing Dekalb needs to be spending money on is a twice-failed candidate to spin some story about how our sh*t don't stink. Literally. She's being paid to explain to taxpayers and to the BOC how it is that the feds are fining Dekalb for having 800 open sewage violations.

Actually, I'm not sure exactly WHAT we're paying Steen for. She claims there will be good return on the investment. Really? Gee, Steen, what is the actual work product here? How do we gauge the return? Will our sh*t really not stink four months from now? How much polishing of a t*rd will the taxpayer get for $35k?

She also claims to be uniquely qualified for this as she's a 30-year resident of the county. Man oh man, that is a pretty low bar to set there, Steen.

Meanwhile, some county offices are struggling to afford pencils. Others work in buildings without functioning HVAC or elevators.

Still others are asked to work without pay.

Well, Burrell, hope you have a Merry Christmas. I mean, it IS all about you, right?

I propose a new reality show featuring the DeKalb BOC and CEO. We can call it "Spend everything wastefully!" It will star the BOC and CEO as they compete to spend the most money on useless projects, political staff and appointees.

Officially sanctioned academic studies will be burned onscreen to empathsize the disdain of DeKalb elected officials to common sense.

The county can probably generate a million and a half cash revenue off the project and this will be distributed to a special "elected official communication fund" to allow elected officials to erect more signs with their names and a daily printed newsletter trumpeting their accomplishments for selected minorities, saving the environment and gay baby whales to DeKalb taxpayers.

As ridiculous as this satire sounds. This is how fifty percent of the BOC operates. The joke is on the employees and citizens that vote these people in every four years.

DeKalb citizens; If you want good government you are going to have vote good people in. Sidney Dorsey and Cynthia McKinney were voted in by DeKalb citizens, and DeKalb government paid the price. Get wise and vote in good people who are true "civil servants" and not the "elite rulers" we see common in DeKalb leadership today.

Best of luck., mates!

Any public relations professional who would refer to $35,000.00 for four months of work in this economic climate is not worth .35 cents. Did Ellis learn nothing from the Shelia Edwards blow up? My Gosh, get ready for some more comedy.

And starring "POINDEXTER" Ellis as our CEO. :-)

Y'all need to read this article. Dekalb is headed down the same road...... Notice on the second page where it talks about mismanagement and corruption.

Get out now!

Here's a reality check.
Be prepared...It is coming soon to Dekalb. All the signs are there.

Diamond Lewis?

Yep, this is DEFINITELY coming. If you haven't frozen your pension or pulled your money out of it you can consider it a donation to Dekalb County. It is a mathematical impossibility for current employees to carry the pension burden. Wake up...

Anonymous said...

Current retirees can plan on drawing from the pension 1 to 2 more years and then it's over. Better start looking for work now if you are dependent on the pension.

Anonymous said...

Oh for heaven's sake, stop with the doom and gloom. There is no indication that the county is going bankrupt or that the pension fund is unsustainable at this point. Causing panic and mayhem doesn't help. If you don't want to stay here, and you don't want to help make the county better, then leave. But kindly go without starting a riot on the way out.

I think the posted articles where the facts were verified by reporters speaks for itself. Dekalb is CERTAINLY following the same course of action.

Anonymous said...

As one of the responses to the article reads, the incident in Al was just first on the conveyer belt so to speak but others in similar situations like Dekalb are sure to follow. Look at the facts, how long can a tax base of wing stands support the county. No legitimate business would move into this county in its current lawless state.

What she is doing is a form of industrial engineering. The salary ranges from $75,000-$80,000. If he/she paid the time in order for this to be their vocation, they should be paid for it.
