Pension Board Election January 10, 2011..List Of Candidates

Here is a link to all the candidates seeking a seat on the pension board.

Right now we are not supporting either candidate. But we do suggest not voting for DeKalb Sheriff Tom Brown. He is too embedded with the current political machine.

Well most of those write like their morons so we will probably be worse off with those people. Here's an idea, how about some of DKPD vets running who want leave the department anyway. Stathis, Whittington, Eunice, to name a few. They obviously have no life outside DKPD so what would be wrong with them attending a few meetings. I vote for any of them, so sign them up please.

The applications are interestion reading. I read with interest the resume of jackie Huff...she IS on the pension board and has never been notified of a meeting. I don't understand at all but it would be typical of the current pension board of not communicating very well. I just hope that whoever is elected with represent the employees only and to the fullest. The hell with crap that was just pulled with the early retirement.Don't be intimidated by the board and keep the employees informed. I'd also find out whay we have so many investment advisors and if they are earning their feed per the return to the pension. I also can't wait to vote out those so called pension reps that did not look out for us in the early retirement crapola.

We're screwed.

90% of those letters of intent look like they were written by 5th grade dropouts.

These are the only candidates who don't appear to be stupid based on their letters.

Berry
Gordon
Hardy
&
Hendrix

Thomas Brown's letter was good, but we've all heard him speak and know he didn't write that himself.

I am definitely voting for Hardy. He's PD, he has a degree in finance, and he works with PD's fraud unit! We need him in there! My other vote remains undetermined at this time.

It is refreshing to see multiple persons who have interest in serving. In light of recent events it is more important than ever to have the best representation we can. Talk to these candidates personally to form an opinion. I personally know several of these candidates and I can assure you that they care about the future of our pension fund. Choose wisely my friends!

Everyone in the county, not just the police department, should vote for Hardy. Prior to being a cop, he worked in finance. Now he investigates fraud. He's perfect. As far as his character goes, you'll never meet a nicer, more level headed guy. I don't think he's ever been complained on.

Although I would not try to sway anyone's vote, I also don't think it is fair to start the blog topic by saying not to vote for Sheriff Brown due to him being embedded in the politics. This is a seat on the pension board. I must remind you that his employees did have to take furlough days. How was this possible? It was due to the fact that the Sheriff balances his budget. Isn't that what we want, someone that manages our money properly?

Commissioner Larry Johnson and Lee May are worried that Covington Hwy is not receiving family type businesses. They are denying businesses that they do not think meet the family atmosphere. When will they wake up and look at what the county pays for Grady Hospital and libraries, parks, take home cars. They approve so many budget expenses they cannot keep up with what they approve for spending. Make this budget accountable should be their priority for the year.

Car washes, used car lots, and pawn shops must be very family friendly in the eyes of Johnson and May.

Sheriff Brown went over his budget and asked for a million more to help pay his costs. Th e commissioners approved this budget request. They are working overtime because so many left the department. That is one reason for no furlough days for the deputies. He did not BALANCE his budget and work with efficiency.

I'd vote for Tom Brown if I was sure he was totally for the pension and employees and not BS BOC wants and needs and speaks against the millions that the pension gave to the BOC for the early retirement and that the $ would have been better off invested in the stock market to benifit the pension. A Smart ass white boy from the PD

Anon 8:19 made a some good comments on Sheriff Brown. While I trust Sheriff Brown is honest, he is not representative of DeKalb employees.
He is a good politician and from what we have seen in current events that is not good enough.
What we need are financially savvy administrative types with integrity.
Make your decisions accordingly.
Best of luck, mates!

After Thomas Brown gave an interview worthy of Margarita Williams or Sheila Edwards, who is seriously considering voting for him?

To anon 4:51, on January 7, Sheriff Brown announced that he had returned the "extra" money he obtained from the BOC, plus an additional 60 thousand plus to the general fund. For the 10th year in a row he was under budget. In my many years in public service, I have known a lot of people that may not be the best public speakers, but that doesn't mean that they are not smart, or worthy of the positions that they have held. I trust Sheriff Brown and will be voting for him for one of the pension seats.

A lot of our officers have transitioned to the sheriff department because of the sheriff. I don,t care how well he speaks he obviously can get the job done. We need to put our pettiness aside and remember we need someone who will fight to keep the commissioners out of our money, not some who is an aspiring politician who will align themselves with them. Brown is already elected and does not need to curry their favor whereas the aspiring officer/politician does.
