Do You Feel The Love?

Richard Stogner, meaning Burrell Ellis, hate the police! There's no other way to describe their contempt for us.

To rehash: We made it to work during the resent winter storm. Others chose to stay home. Burrell Ellis finds nothing wrong with paying the people who stayed home a full days pay.

How in the hell does this make any sense? The county is broke. In an attempt to make the financial ends meet, we were forced to work holidays without pay, and then furloughed.

With the county facing a 50 million dollar deficit, Burrell Ellis decides to pay people for staying home! How many millions of dollars did that cost the taxpayers? Why wasn't that tough question asked?

Find us one private company that paid their people for staying home during the winter storm.

Is this the reason for the elimination of the promotional raises, to help of set the cost of paying folks to stay at home?

Speaking of ticket furloughs, we didn't get started last year until late September. Imagine what a year long furlough would cost this county. You want to play these silly games Burrell, then we'll play!

A word to our brothers and sisters in uniform. The county is nearing the end of its budget process. If you are feeling the need for another ticket furlough, hold off until the budget is passed. Keep the bastards guessing! Once the budget is passed, it's hammer down time! But beware! We will be threatened by the brass and the commissioners alike. Be prepared for furlough days. Be prepared to have the brass to make your life miserable. But we have to be strong.

We are not going to take it anymore!

This arrogant, smug old fart just doesn't get it.

You'd think he would have learned his lesson the first time around. Maybe another lawsuit is in what he needs. You know what's great about civil suits? It's really easy to bring up stuff like the previous case that he lost! This guy is just begging us to sue him again! Thanks for the eviden.....er...interview!

It was an "extraordinary circumstances"?? I made it to work and I faced all the same issues(no day care, iced over roads). I and 99% of police/fire did our duty and the other county employees Mr. Stogner mentioned did not. They should not get paid!

Stogner helped VJ run the county when they both were in power. Now that VJ is history, Little Dick needs to get his sticky fingers onto the county where he is getting a fat pension and having trouble staying out of the limelight. He has become that little wing under B.E. to find ways to screw not only the employees, but the taxpayer. In a sense, he is hitting two birds with one stone !.

As I have stated before, all this crap is nothing new to Dekalb County, just another idiot saying it.

Maybe it time for a different form of government in this county. We certainly don't see any results from the BOC or that little shrimp Ellis setting any new favorable policies for the good of the county. Those morons on the BOC are nothing more than wasted space being paid for screwing up.

The animals that are visiting at the animal shelter are really smarter than anyone running this county.

Grin and bear it....Bite your tongue.....Put your eight or ten hours in per day.....keep your mouth shut, because nothing is going to change in our lifetimes.
Its business as usual...Its that simple, unfortunately.

Stogner needs to get over his white guilt.

The next snow storm everyone in the police department just consider what they did in the past and stay home.
There is no loyalty to this county anymore. They do not care about the ones who want to help and support this place.

Where are the command staff fighting for this to be corrected?

They are just looking at their
TAKE HOME CAR AND BIG SALARY, they did not come in that day either.

Stogner , what a racist bastard and he still has a job, even if he is working for free.

Why does this county still employee him?

I'm done, the hell with this place.

This guy looks like the grim reaper who has risen from the dead. The stress will take care of him soon.

Let it snow again, I for one will not come in since im gunna be paid anyway. Im gunna us ethe same lame as excuse everyother officer did.
BUT WHO WILL STAY HOME WITH MY KIDS?

Anonymous said...

Well for the record on the snow days, there were many employees who couldn't come to work due to roads being closed or exits off 285/20 being closed. So if I couldn't get out how can someone get in.? I agree, people who made it in to work should get comp time for it but you guys are making it seems like who ever stayed home just wanted to when they tried but couldn't make it in.

Thanks

Actually the Chief and Asst Chief did come in on those days please stop posting if you are not informed. Granted I would love to see the Chief get on the news and fight for us but guess what just like this blog which lets people cry about how bad they got it Anonymously why should he put his Job on the line for us on the news. Cowards are on this Blog just bitching. Start using some of that to un-Fuck our situation instead of bitching

Next snow storm.... I'm gonna take a snow day or call for a driver (..whoops....I mean officer....) pick me up at my house and bring me home at 10-42.

Why should I go in to work or even spend the gas to come in.

Sanitation, clerks, secretaries aren't driving to work. Why should I?

Neither Stogner, nor Ellis, nor the Board of Commissioners will admit to making a mistake. The fair thing to do is what was done in the past; require those who did not come in to take Annual Leave OR Approved Leave w/o Pay. Going back to 80s I can remember only one time that Decatur closed down the government and excused employees from work. In that instance, they paid those of us who worked an extra days pay, but that is the only time I remember that happening. I believe that was either the Maloof era or maybe before that... Any other time, it has been the case that the employee either came in or took leave... But, no one will admit a mistake in judgement at this point. It would be a bigger mess to try to correct this than to go forward with the current decision. Stogner isn't about to relent and admit he made a mistake in judgement!!! If it is any consolation, they city where I work now did the same thing; paid those who didn't come to work for two days and gave no compensation to those who managed to come in.

Why does CEO Ellis allow this old arrogant jack ass to run the county? His reputation is horrible. He was Vernon’s henchman for years and then Ellis brings him back to work for him? Ellis is just a coward and likes for Stogner to do the dirty work in my opinion.

Hell, Ellis should have brought Vernon Jones back and found a place for him in his administration. I see very little difference.

Ellis has been a huge disappointment and people are already lining up to run against him for CEO. Ellis will not be the CEO in a year and a few months.

I find this interview very enlightening. Not from so much from Mr. Stogner’s comments but from the perspective of his body language. At first, Mr. Stogner describes how difficult it would be to figure out why an employee “Chose or could not” report for duty. Then later in the interview, he stated that employees did not report for duty due to “Extraordinary circumstances.” Which is it Mr. Stogner? Did you investigate these extraordinary circumstances? Your mouth is moving so you must be lying. Also fellow officers and detectives, check out Mr. Stogner’s body language. If he were in an interview room, would you believe him? Mr. Stogner’s body language is quite clear to me…he despises us low life county employees. Seems to me he has demonstrated this posture before namely, in Federal Court where it was proven that he employed and carried out discriminatory practices. I am not asking to be granted compensation time for the days I reported for duty (Which was all of the iced in days). I am asking that employees who “chose or could not” report for duty be forced to use their own annual leave. I truly hope that when the furlough days are handed down that the BOC and Mr. Stogner begin with the people that have already been paid two free days before they require me to be furloughed.

Forget complaining about Stogner.. Ellis is the man and charge.. and the one calling the shots. That issue will be taken up during his upcoming (not soon enough) re-election campaign..

I am a Dekalb Officer... I came to work during the snow every day. Do I think I should get comp time on top of my normal time to compensate me for doing what I swore to do... No. Do I think the people that could not or would not come to work should be required to use a holiday/vacation/sick day if they want to get paid.. Yes. That's the only fair and correct way to handle the situation. The BoC just wanted to make sure their folks were covered for not coming in is all.

Burrell will still win the re-election next year. DeKalb is a County where the citizens vote by the skin color. If Burrell say the right words, go to the right churhes and shake the right hand, he is the winner for the next 4 years.

Anonymous said...

If police and fire made it to work then why couldnt the rest of the county employees make it to work? Yes, the employees that did not make into work should have to use vac. or sick time.

Next winter storm and you work for the police or fire department DONT go into work. Stay home and be with your families.

Anonymous said...

Time to get the hell out of Dekalb. Let the thugs take over and all the good officers go to a better place. Then we'll see where Dekalb stands.

Anonymous said...

In a few years Dekalb will be just like south fulton county, all hood. Dunwoody incorporated, chamblee expanded and is planning more expansion and brookhaven wants to incorporate too. The BOC better wake up before all the money is gone and the only businesses here are Indian motels, pawn shops, title pawns, liquor stores and chicken wing restaurants. It's pitiful.

@1:19 - I pray the officers don't give in to "old man Potter" and let the county be taken over by his kind. Not sure what's worse: the thugs on the street or the ones at 330 Ponce and up in the WIZard's castle. At least you know what you're fighting with most of the thugs on the streeet. Not so sure with that castle.

Speaking of the Wiz: silly question but where in the H!!! is he? Does he EVER come out from under that rock ? It's about time he earned that great salary paid for out of our taxes . How he can let that racist Stogner spew such venom in the direction of these officers who put themselves everyday in harm's way to protect even worthless pieces of crap like Stogner and not ever come to their defense makes him look like what he is: useless & pathetic. Bring on the election campaigns..we're already circling the wagons. Hopefully when Ellis goes -not far behind will be Miller & Stogner.

You know Fox National News ran a story this morning about hospital employees receiving an additional $250.00 bonus for showing up to work on a snow day.
Sound familar, tax payers were up in arms to say the least saying they shouldnt get paid extra just for coming to work.
Maybe the blog master should forward Stogners and Ellis's email to them for a National Story. If nothing else now the national community will see their stupidity as well.

So now what?

IMHO, here's the options:

If you're young and have a college degree - I recommend that you stay for 2-3 years then parachute into a federal law enforcement position.

If you're close to ten years: stay till you have the ten, then start considering your options. With ten years, you can collect pension at 55 without penalty...less than ten, you have to wait till your 60's.

If you're anywhere near 30 years, lock in your pension and try to secure one of those high paying State Department jobs overseas or a nice cushy position with Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Milton or some other small department.

If you have your ten and bring some good experience and training to the table.... you should also be looking at the State Department positions.

Outside that, we're just fish in a pot of water that is slowing starting to boil.

Wiz Miller, out of sight and out of mind....

If he had any notion of using the Director of Public Safety position as a stepping stone to higher polictical office....DA, CEO etc... I'd say he's screwed the pooch on that level.

I'm saddened by a lack of wisdom displayed by all those employees who feel that everyone's circumstances during the recent snow storm were the same. The police and fire departments are essential, trained county personnel whose job is to persevere during these hazardous conditions. All other county personnel are neither trained nor essential. Pay or no pay I'm sure was determined by past or present county policies. Schools were closed, daycares were closed, side streets were closed, lanes on interstates were closed, bus and train service was interrupted and severe weather warnings advised citizens to stay home and yes, lives were lost in the recent storm. Retribution for being paid or not paid amounts to "biting the hand that feeds you."

Anonymous said...

Anon 1207 if the county treated the police and fire departments like "essential, trained county personnel" then there wouldn't be a problem. Instead the county treats us the worse than anyone else. What else do you call having to risk your life to come to work while everyone else is taking a free snow day.

When I accepted this job, and the risks that come with it, the county was promising 5% yearly raises, 10% promotional raises, and a good pension. Now that I am here I get no annual increase (5% was reduced long before the economy turned bad), 5% promotional raises, and an uncertain pension. Is that the way you treat "essential, trained county personnel"?

To Anon February 12, 2011 12:07 PM,

IMO, you are just another weakling who apparently accepts a lack of proactive planning is fine when there were days of advanced notice of what was coming. For example, live in a subdivision with a hill, park somewhere to avoid having to drive on it. Live in a house with a hilly driveway, park on the street. Use/buy a shovel. Use/buy ice melt or even table salt. Daycare? Don't tell me parents of young children could not have worked something else (networked) with grandparents, co-workers, friends, neighbors, church contacts, etc. to care for young children. If I can 1) still get to work on time on those days by 2) driving over 40 miles one-way, then I expect everyone else could have too.

People like you make me sick because you are the type who always make or find ways to excuse your behavior. Grow up. Act like an adult. Be responsible for yourself.

Anonymous said...

There is no policy that says employees are paid during a snow storm. That was a decision made by Stogner himself.

Anonymous said...

Look, Anon 12:07, everyone should be treated the same is all we're saying.

If you couldn't make it to work, then fine. You couldn't make it to work so you should have to burn a vacation day, a holiday, or a sick day. But that's not what happened. People who couldn't make it to work were essentially given "comp time." They didn't lose sick, holiday, or vacation time. The person who sits next to them may have shown up to work like they were supposed to. Why should some people get preferential treatment?

Either give people who did show a comp day, or charge the people who didn't show up with a sick day, a holiday, or a vacation day. That's the fair thing to do.

Someone send the old SOB a shuffleboard set...better yet, get him to move to Del Boca Vista , FL. I thought the Vernon Jones days were gone.I can't believe Ellis brought this guy back.
