Initial Promotional Raises Eliminated

Burrell (cowardly hiding behind Richard Stogner) has ended all promotional probational pay increases. Meaning; if you are promoted to MPO or higher, you no longer get a 5% pay increase at the end of your successful probational period (6 months).

Who loves you baby!

Click here for the executive order.

I just read the Executive Order signed by Dick Stoegner that did away with the second 5% bump in pay after being promoted......

Typical politician ......Ellis didn't sign it himself.... let someone else be the harbinger of bad news.

awesome.... write more tickets guys, guys your Department truly appreciates it!!

This is another turd built into the house of crap we call a workplace. I never thought I'd harbor such pure HATRED for my employer.

Too old with too many years to bail.... said...

So now a promotion is worth only 5%......

Damn, with no opportunity at the stingy 2-3% merit raise, I now need to get promoted twice a year to keep up with the increases in the pension contribution, the increase in health benefits (that now don't cover much outside the major catastrophe ), and the cost of living.

Hmmm......Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Gwinnett, the Feds.... if you're young and have two years, you need to be looking and actively interviewing.

Truly embarrasing! To those that are soon to be promoted and are effected by this Bullshit order I feel for you. You worked and studied hard to get promoted and should get the full 10% you deserve. Damn.... they are just screwing us at every turn when will this shit stop!

The month of January was a very proactive month compared to December 2010. Per the Chief of Police, we began showing pride and honor in our jobs again. What the fuck. Where you at Chief, you said you would handle Decatur and this is what we get. Thanks

Well, this certainly causes me to reconsider my career path here. I think it is more cost effective to just remain in my current position and the benefits that come with it and forget about striving to be a sergeant, lieutenant, or more. With this Executive Order, I will. And I think wanting to have a 30-year career here, 82.5% retirement be damned, is now in jeopardy. As far as I'm concerned with this ever declining fiscal path being thrust upon us, the longer we stay the more broke we will become.

You certainly have to love the socialist Democrats. They badly hurt our country and even more so here. I swear I cannot think creatively enough to come up with further cuts more than likely in our future.

Again, it's taking from one hand to pay the other. So, the BOC is proclaiming there will be no more furloughs. Well, they don't want to increase taxes either. They have exhausted the county reserves. So, the money (savings) has to come from somewhere and this is what it looks like. Perhaps if there were a dedicated tax solely for police services as Commissioner Boyer suggests, we could keep, I'm sorry, I mean get back our 5% merit increases and 5+5% promotion increases. That is, so long as DeKalb citizens would be willing to pay for it in order to save their police department and what is left of the experienced officers still here.

I'm just sick...

Even still, how many currently on the lists, especially sergeant, are still interested?

Who ever stated that Vernon Jones hade a vision of taking care of his employees was mistakenly wrong. He had a man under his wing who took his place after his eight years were up, and transformed into a carbon copy. Do you think that Wm. Burrell Ellis is or ever has been a man of his word? Come on people....Turn up your hearing aids and open your eyes !! B.E. is a true politician and a bullshit artist from go. What he tells you is the same thing he tells the taxpayers.

Basically, if you see B.E.'s lips move, this doesn't mean that anything coming out of his mouth is going to be true. It is realistically nothing more than hot air and nothing else.

There are a lot of new names that this county can be called, but as a good person, I will not repeat them in this blog.

Its time for those good workers to find another job elsewhere, where you can be treated with dignity and respect, not being told lies, and not be degraded like a bad piece of fruit.

It really is a shame that the taxpayers of this county have to put up with BS and other mis-management crap for all the many years that this nonsense has been going on.

I am really glad that I received my pension from some people who took care of me and my friends without the shit that y'all have to put up with.

Good luck to you hard workers !!!

As a kid my grandfather gave us each a nickle when we came to visit. He had loads of money, but he still thought like the country boy he was when he was a kid. Back at the turn of the century (1901), that was a lot of money to a kid. He was still in that mindset.

Maybe that's Ellis' problem us similar ..... he still thinks $250 (see topped out MPO bonus) is a LOT of money. He must also think 5% is a windfall!

Newsflash Mr. Ellis......we're not bellhops, busboys or "detailers" at the corner carwash....nickle and diming us ain't gonna cut it.

Anonymous said...

I wear a gold badge and have been working to promote the vision and the pride about which Chief O spoke about at the "round table".

Honestly....this undermines his goal and his desire to leave "the politics behind. " You can kick a good dog only so many times. Eventually he's not gonna come out to play or work.

Tonight it's going to snow......do you think I'm going to leave two hours early to make sure I'm there to lead roll call on Thursday? Do you think I should expect my troops to leave early and be on time or show up at all?......food for thought.

Anonymous said...

The problem is we don't stick together. If everyone on the promotion lists would turn down the promotion when the time came Decatur would have to do something. The current list is valid for two years and the county cannot go that long without promoting supervisors. Tell them to shove the promotion and they will have to act.

Anonymous said...

Where is the incentive to stay around this place? We used to get 5% raises, or close to it, for doing a good job from year to year. Now your pay is stuck at whatever you were getting paid 4 years ago, minus the pension cost increase and minus the insurance cost increase. If I get promoted and all I get is a 5% raise?

Screw you, Ellis!

And screw you, Stogner, you racist pig!

Chief we have gave you every opportunity, and had your back. I expect to see you on the news demanding what we deserve. You need a heart to heart chat with douchbag, and explain to him that public safey is the backbone of this county. We are done chief, we are done going above and beyond. For what? what would you do as an MPO? work harder, put more on the line, only to worry and wonder what bs douchbag will come up next to break us? Not only do you need to demand what we deserve, but maybe its time for the county to go above and beyond for US. 10-67WT from here on out. If you guys (officers) have any balls you will be on the same page.

There was a county wide policy of no raises. Ellis and a few commissioners violated this policy for their friends and gave them raises. Ellis' little secretary got a huge raise. I wonder what kind of "skills" she has! Once the commissioners and CEO were outed, and police, fire and the community at large were furious, Ellis went about giving raises another way. He promoted a bunch of his friends BEFORE this policy was implemented. How lucky for the friends of Ellis that they beat the deadline and got promoted before this policy went into effect!

The level of animosity among the rank and file towards the administration has reached an all time high. The CEO and commissioners don't have a clue how much we hate them and how this is going to affect the well being of the department and the safety of the county. Who wants to come to work under these conditions? What kind of people are you going to be able to recruit to work here? If you thought the Tebo era hires were a bunch of saggy pant, messy uniform wearing illiterates, just wait to see what we're going to be reduced to hiring in the very near future!

Anonymous said...

What's the point anymore? You work hard, you don't get a raise. You get promoted, you barely get a raise. Nope. I think I'll be parking my unit from now on until I get dispatched to a call, and I'll respond super signal 6 unless someone's life is in danger.

Buck Rogers said...

The only way to get the point across is for every A$$ listed on the promotional lists to turn the shit down....The Capt, Lt, & Sgt's list's...all of them....the only problem is like everything else the A$$es in this Dept won't stick together. Well let me tell you, when you get to my name on the Lt's List just go ahead and move on....I refuse to accept this BS and I won't....I bet I'll be the only ass to turn the shit down but at least I have my principles and dignity. I intend to make a freakin stand...I only hope others follow suit.

I have been trying to stay out of all this drama with the county and just go out there and do my job but this is the last straw. I used to be proud to suit up every day to go to work and get out there and handle business. Now, not so much. It just seems like every other week, it is something new. Chief O comes to our roll call and says if we step it up and show stats then he is going to have out back. He promised that Decatur would step up when we showed them we were back to work and picked up the ticket/arrest numbers. Just seems like no matter how hard we work Decatur is after our money.

I am sick and tired of going out here everyday and putting my life on the line for some tickets and dealing with these degenerate citizens. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan and put my life on the line every single day and enjoyed it because I knew I was taken care of. DeKalb needs to wake the hell up or pretty soon all the experience is going to walk out of the door because honestly, we AREN'T being taken care of.

I'm not writing a single ticket or doing another traffic stop. I have two degree's and served in two combat zones. My resume is polished and just itching to be dropped to the feds. I advise everyone else to be looking out for themselves and be looking for somewhere to go that WILL take care of you.

This is one of those times in life I have no idea what to do. On the one hand I take pride in my work ethic and want to do a good job...on the other hand if I continue to do the job I'm making a fool of myself. Most civilized people recognize that your salary is basically an equation to your worth. A doctor is paid well since that is the person who keeps you in good health. Like I've heard others say...do you really want the cheapest person you can find carrying a gun and being responsible for the space between your worse nightmare and safety?

There will come a day when the county and its citizens looks back and wonders how it turned out like that city in Robocop...well all you'll have to do is look back to 2001 and go foward to now. This place is done, broken, kaput, and good riddance. Many of us are like the orchestra on the Titanic..we can only keep playing while the ship sinks, for those of you that can escape..run from this county as fast as you can. You and especially your family deserves better than this county has to offer.

So let me get this right, If you work directly for the CEO and get terminated for criminal activity you get a bonus of $100,000.00. Now if you are in public safety, do well on a promotional exam and get promoted, your %10 raise is now cut to %5. Wow!!!!!!! So how is this going to work for MPO promotions, Do they no longer get %5 or will they continue to get %5, which now would be equal to a new Sergeant being promoted. I guess there is always room in the budget for criminal raises or bonus.
The sad part about this is that Chief OBrien knew about this since at least January 3rd, the actual date of the Order. He continues to lie to all Officers to trick you into writting more citations and being proactive. We need to stand together as Officers because at the end of the day the Chief and BOC only care about themselves and the people directly around them. #### Stop writting tickets####, you are being used to fund the high salary of your Director, Chief, and CEO.
Where is the incentive to work here? If any is considering working for this hell hole run fast in the other direction. Wake up Chief no one cares about a taser, new guns, or hot black uniforms that will not match the pants. What we want is our money. Stop letting the CEO take it!!!! If you are not going to help then leave. The CEO has you and your brother wrapped around his beady eyed waist like two puppy dogs. Stand up for your troups and stop filling them with false hopes and lies.

Diabolical!

Ellis is just making sure the county doesn't have much longer to pay the "topped out bonus".

Once the topped out MPO's have retired (most likely in the the next year or two), that will be one expense that will never again rear its ugly head.

Just imagine how much money will be saved.....$250 times ALL THOSE TOPPED OUT MPO's!

It even precludes other ranks from asserting that their topped out people need bonuses too.

Diabolical.....just diabolical!

I have to admit they were right....he's not your average politician. He's diabolical.

So if you're Chief O, how to you respond to this "executive order".

I'm for bringing back the 67W's with a vengeance.

Anonymous said...

To Anon 6:27....I can feel your pain but take a step away from the cliff. I do care abut the gun, taser, cars, uniforms and so on. Truth be told you do too, or if you don't you're not thinking rationally. Also you do realize all those items had to be bought with seized funds? The BOC didn't fund ANY of them. You can blame the chief all day and that goes with the territory of being a chief. But, I ask you to sit back for a second and think about what he can or cant do. Do you REALLY think he can talk or bully this BOC into doing anything they don't want to do? NO! Sure he can get disgusted and threaten to quit..guess what, they'll show him the door. Do you honestly think they give a rats ass about anything but themselves. Why do you think he works without merit protection or contract???? Do you honestly think that he is an insider with county politics? I've been here long enough to know that is not the case. Blindly ranting and calling for the chief to quit is exactly what the BOC would like to hear. It deflects away from the true evil which is the BOC.

You're right there is absolutely no incentive to work here if you have any other option. But lets do a recap of why that is;

Sorry implementation of Price/Waterhouse pay..CEO/BOC

Pay for performance-CEO/BOC

Stopped funding for new vehicles-CEO/BOC

Overpayment of 20 million in contracts-CEO Vern says oh...sorry bout that

And the list goes on such as losing racial discrimination lawsuit and keeping/rehire of those responsible, terrible hiring of Bolton, and on and on and on.

Remember folks, the CEO/BOC put us here...they deserve our hatred.

I am a citizen. Decatur. Listen the hell up. You put them in this position to begin with, then wouldn't listen. Didn't get it. Didn't care. Didn't think you could change direction. Whatever. PUT DOWN your big stick, and put your money where your mouth is. No more "blackmail", smoke and mirrors, PUNITIVE, ineffective actions. Put the Chief on a pedestal, give him the power to do what he knows is the RIGHT thing to do for his troups. For the LOVE of God - stop playing around with this. JC

Time for Blue Flu. Stand firm on the warning tickets and ignore some supervisor's threats about DOC's for no long copies...it is a hollow threat. Make your stops, leave them with a WT and log it on your PO sheet. Then you are covered. The BOC ain't gonna pay us anyway until the are forced to, and that will only come from no revenue (since I ain't the Tax MAn anyway) and 2 days of Blue Flu. When their offices light up from the enraged citizens (who I don't think care about us anyway) who need but don't get a unit, then maybe we will get something fair. Jeff Wiggs is doing as well as he can, but without collective bargaining he is toofless. You don't negotiate with a rabid dog...you shoot him. That is all he understands. The BOC is the same way. Until we man up TOGETHER, we will all hang seperately.
For those eligible for promotion, take it. It gives you more influence on the rank-and-file and helps to get our point across.

Anonymous said...

Not taking a promotion makes no sense....when sanity finally comes back to Dekalb, I would like to think the new management would make things right and give them across the board raises. If you're not a member of the group, you can't benefit with the group.

Take the promotion.

Simply put, Vernon and now Ellis along with the current BOC and their predessessors have been taking more and more away from us for years and years while our expenses and deductions have continued to escalate over the same even before the recession hit. They all have failed and continue to fail the citizens of DeKalb County and county employees. The BOC has and is Bankrupting Our County while they line their own pockets and take care of their chosen ones.

For those of you who criticize posters who are justifiably angry and sick and tired of being crapped on, YOU are weak! YOU would swallow a cyanide pill if they handed it to you. Just continue to be separatists rather than uniting with the rest of us. For those of us who are good officers and bust our asses for this place day-in and day-out are deserving to be appreciated FAIRLY. That's all that we are asking. Just as we had been told when we were hired. For many of us over many years, we have done what was expected of us and others even more. What do you say to those who continue to max their performance evaluations with no reward but instead an ever decreasing paycheck? We have been betrayed and continue to be betrayed. Yes, there are those that have been lazy or are otherwise slugs, but I believe in my heart it is not their voices you are hearing from on this blog. If you do not sense the passion in those posts, then your investigative skills still need improvement!

To you nay-sayers, I have exceled in this department for many years. I hired on career-oriented with retirement as my goal. I, like many others, am sick of being crapped on by unqualified elected leaders who exercise incompetence and reward their inner circles at my expense. Despite all this, even to this day, I still am giving it 150% in my position. And I will continue like others to scream as loud and often as I can get away with while preserving my final goal about being treated like dirt. I am justified! The others are justified! You nay-sayers need to demand justice...FAIRNESS...for yourselves as well! Otherwise, you will remain weak by continuing to take it and take it.

Here we go again. Like I said before your Chief does not care about you guys. The time is now stop generating these ass holes money by writting tickets. Put pressure on each other. There are other things you can put on your PO sheet besides citations. I see it on a daily basis, Officers sitting on stop signs and red lights, really but then again this is what type of Officers we breed now.
By the way has anyone seen Wiz Miller?, and does anyone know what his salary is? Word is he makes over $200,000.00. Who's your daddy, I wont be patrolling his neighborhood for 42 perps anymore.

Yea I bet your right, the Chief will probably not even speak out about this but only let it pass by.

For those of you planning a Blue Flu...I for one will be at work and I would appreciate the back up. Think about your brothers and sisters in BLUE....some of us WILL show up because this is our career!! REMEMBER OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT HAVE DIED!!!! If you Blue Flu and your partner gets killed, will you be able to look at their family members and explain why they had no back up??? There is more than one way to bring down a giant but DON'T let your fellow officers suffer! And believe it or not, there are good people that live in this county too. Some of us have family in DeKalb!!!! Don't forget why you chose this career! Don't forget what we stand for!

Anon February 12, 2011 1:53 AM,

I agree. Fellow officers, we all have legitimate reasons to be upset with all the negativity being thrust upon us now and past years. But, a "Blue Flu" is not the answer. I, too, will continue to come in and fulfill by oath and obligation. Real police officers will and I'd like to think all of us are. I'd like to think notions of a "Blue Flu" is just spontaeous bursts of anger and not relective of your true character. This action would be counter-productive and morally wrong. Please, let us not stoop to the level of our government leaders. We ARE better than that. There are better ways. Join the FOP. Exercise YOUR descretion at work when doing your job. Inform citizens (anyway, one way or the other).

Thanks Brothers and Sisters,

O’Brien and WZ Miller are clearly not going to stand up and help the police department. It would require true leadership to take a stand in PUBLIC and I just don’t see it coming. WZ Miller doesn’t do anything bad or anything good. He is rarely seen and overall he is just a flat line ZERO.

What I do see coming and in part what is already here is attempts to intimidate the officers. You already see the threats in my precinct and others around the department. Yarbrough and his clan will put pressure on the lieutenants and sergeants to discipline officers who do not write enough tickets. There will be threats to transfer lieutenants who do not, “buy in to this plan” and threats to take away extra jobs.

I saw this coming a while back when I read O’Brien’s comments in the 1st edition of the new DeKalb Police Newsletter. He specifically mentioned the sergeants and the lieutenants. He said he was challenging them to lead in 2011. So he is obviously quite pleased with the command staff. If only he could get the lieutenants to act right the department would be just fine. Really?

When you don’t know what to do just blame it on somebody else (sergeants and lieutenants) and threaten them. It is truly amazing to have such a screwed up police department and then blame it on people who are making NONE of the decisions.
