Remind me.

So, now how was it we were planning to replace the experienced keepers that leave for Dunwoody, Gwinnett, Johns Creek, Sandy Springs and the Feds......

Remember, ladies and gents, to save copies of your watch lists and make sure your loved ones know to ask for one if something really bad happens to you. When the idiots down in Decatur cause our shifts to be dangerously understaffed and people end up getting hurt or worse because of it, they need to be held accountable!

Just Damn, my left hand is really starting to smell since the budget cuts. There's no paper in the bathrooms.....

Feel sorry for those who quit jobs and came here from other states, this place sucks. After this gets out Im sure we will be able to attract the best of the best in the future. Come to our academy, but wait, it might get cancelled so dont hold your breath. The BOC doesn't think about the true and real affect of what they caused by the budget cut.

All these new actions are a ploy to get the taxpayers to pay higher taxes. If it happened that a 12% increase in property taxes had passed, rest assure, the following year, Shrimp Burrell would ask for another 12%. The following years afterwards would be the same as the previous.

All of a sudden the county is or has run out of money. Why not slash the paychecks of the idiots in Decatur who sit on the fat butts, take away their free cars, increase their pension contribs, and take away any freebies they get. This alone would save a bundle.

It is very unfortunate that people on the bottom have to suffer because of the idiots at the top.

It is really sad that the county will contract with a private contractor to do the same work that the Roads & Drainage and Water & Sewer departments can do, and do it cheaper than those two departments. What happens to those departments's employees while the private contractor does the work?

I wonder if any other county in the State of Georgia has the same bullshit that Dekalb County has?

So many things in Dekalb County do not make any sense on how things get done.

Now, our Public Safety departments are taking a major hit because of the vast stupidity in Decatur.

One of these days, it will start to crumble away, and its sad that there will be nothing to show for it, except dust......."Well done Decatur".

The department is still top heavy.....you have certified officers taking cars to and from motor maintenance, officer's attached to recorder's court, just a mismanagement of officers throughout the department. Some precincts have 3 Lts. on one shift. Are you kidding me????? The people are there, they just aren't utilized. Its time that Sgts. are nothing more than a promotion in uniform and Lts. handle what the Sgts. did. Just keep promoting and nobody will be left to do the work!!!

I took the written test yesterday Feb 25 I know I passed it. I wish they had the June 13 training date I really want to work for Dekalb County soo bad.

Larry Johnson said, "We can't have enforcement without prevention." Then he went on to say that they had to keep open the Recreation Centers for the children. How are the children going to be safe at the Rec Centers with no officers to protect them. They gotta get there somehow and return home. If I were a gangbanger I would recruit at the Rec Centers since there will be an abundance of prospects and no police officers to interfere. IDIOTS!!!!!!!! Don't any of the BOC get it.? They want business to come back into the County. If people feel safe they will move their families and businesses here and the County gets more tax money. No one feels safe in Dekalb because of the past and present CEOs and BOCs have allowed Public Safety to erode in this county for 10+ years. And with the judges giving people light bonds and sentences, we are needing more and more officers so we can continually chase the same people around. How is it that I am the only one that is seeing this or how is it that I am completely dissallusioned to think this formula works in the long run. Can you answer me that Mr. or Mrs. Commissioner? I know their answer. It will be, "You are right but it's more complicated than that." NO IT'S NOT!!!!!!!! Sometimes when things get broken down so far then you gotta start with the basics and build from the ground up! But that would upset "the constituants" to not continue to throw the money around. So then Public Safety will have to carry the burden in the form of the Wade Barrett, Dennis Stepnowski, Ricky Bryant, and Eric Barker. But that's ok cause the Police Department always regroups and carries on without hardly a wimper.

thank god i left that dump

Mark my words Dekalb Police will not exist in two years. We will all be Dekalb Sheriffs.

Anonymous said...

Why is Major Anderson still here? Isn't she an appointee who does not fall under Merit System protection? Good time to eliminate that unneeded position. If that position were cut, wouldn't that save some money?

Anonymous said...

I hope this is just a rumor but I hear that the administration has "found" money in the police budget to keep Wiz Miller's position. That would be a travesty if they are canceling police academies and grounding 90 because there is no money but retain that waste of money position.

Anonymous said...

If money is coming from the police budget to save Wiz, why isn't 50% of the money coming from the fire budget. He is the Public Safety Director, is he not?

I want to be a Dekalb Co police officer. When I get out of the academy, I will strive to be an admin officer , a chief's aide one of those certified police computer geeks or a motor pool officer. Police pay for civilian work. All day work, no stress and weekends off. Can't beat that .

Anonymous said...

Decatur can always money for their buddies and not for the remainder of y'all. This is nothing new and this won't change anytime in our lifetime.

The mold of pedastals of B.E. cronies hasn't been broken and is probably in a safe place guarded by Decatur.

The truth is out once and for all. Burrell will stop at nothing to get what he wants. His character is now exposed for the world to see.

Anonymous said...

There has to be some kind of incentive to have anyone who wants to be a cop in Dekalb County.

There are two types of people who want to be cops in Dekalb County.....Stupid or dedicated. I, for one, would hope that those who have registered for or have started the academy class are not the first group.

The second class, I would hope would stay on and finish their training as oppose to quitting and get the hell out of here, though I could not blame them if they did.

What basically is the reason for wanting to come to work in this county? To work for a bunch of crooked idiots, who do not care about anything, other than themselves.

The idiots in Decatur at the top of Dekalb County do not care about anything but lining their pockets.
Now those idiots want to curtail the training of new police officers in hope of what? Lets call the National Guard in a see what they can do.

And the beat goes on.......

Anon 11:51. I'm not sure how well versed you are in your statement, but you are right in more ways than one. CEO has no respect for PD. Where did he hold his office during his first few months? He attends St. Philips AME, S.O. is all over that place. He is setting PD up to fail. The rate officers are leaving will result in S.O. taking over PD operations.

Anonymous said...

i think the S.O taking over PD would be a good thing. atleast the S.O has a game plan to follow.

I'm so dissapointed they canceled this academy. I actually almost canceled my military application to pursue employment with dekalb. I'm glad i didnt. I knew dekalb would do something stupid like this too.

How can they cancel the academy? They JUST and i mean JUST anounced it 2 weeks ago and JUST last week posted it on the website. How can you post something then cancel it not even 14 days later

Anonymous said...

So I assume training personnel will be reassigned to uniform as well since there is no academy.

Anonymous said...

Can we get rid of the Take Home cars? Senior MPO's are driving shitboxes with 160,000 miles and no radios while rookie asskissers and ballsuckers who write fifty tix a day and lock up anything that moves w/o discretion get to drive new cars for a month!

I know the cops are dead set against it for obvious reasons, but consolidating the DeKalb SO and PD is an attractive and logical move to reduce costs in DeKalb government. The downside is that it would be the DKSO that would be left as the surviving entity, being constitutionally chartered. This is sad because something needs to be done but of the two departments, DKPD is the more professional and harder working. This is not to knock all DKSO, there are some small units like the warrant section that do outstanding work. But the difference between the average detention officer and the average cop is like night and day. Before DeKalb takes such a major step there are a lot of other departments that should be researched as candidates for consolidation or elimination. I do not expect my opinion on the issue of DKPD/DKSO consolidation to be popular on this blog, and I respect your valid opinions of why the cops should not consolidate with the deputies.
Unfortunately DeKalb rulers are continuing to dig the county into a deep hole financially and structurally. With the current BOC and CEO refusing to offer any creative solutions, within several years DeKalb government will find its financial options so bleak that consolidating DKSO/DKPD might become attractive to the citizens.
Something to think about, mates! best of luck!

The back door deal is already in the works....This from an insider in Decatur. The BOC is working towards eliminating the Police Dept all together. The representatives from Dekalb are looking into the move and how to merge the two. It's quite ironic because the same is occurring in Clayton County as we speak. Apparently the move in Clayton County is to take affect in June this summer and the BOC are in contact with the Clayton Co Board to see the steps they've taken. Come June there will no longer be a separate Clayton County Police Dept. It will all be SO....The word in the Maloof Bldg is they would like to see this change in Dekalb before the end of the year.

Stand by for more as it becomes available...

Anonymous said...

As previously stated on this blog, Dekalb County is the new Clayton County, in more ways than one.

Anonymous said...

Guys, in order to merge PD and SO would require a change to the state constitution. Additionally, having SO only would be giving up a tremendous amount of power and authority to another elected official, the Sheriff. It's just not viable politically. There is very little overlap in PD and SO functions so there would be very little incentive from a budgetary perspective to have a merger. Also, the SO is not CALEA certified and that has an effect on the county insurance and to some extent, it's bond rating. Higher insurance rates due to increased liability has a negative effect on the bond rating.

So people think that the C.E.O. and the B.O.C. want to put every law enforcement action under an elected official over whom they have no control? The police department has been their political tool since they came into existence. They can direct them to do whatever feel-good, menial task they want. I don't understand what their motivation would be to eliminate the department. If you think they would give up power just to be fiscally sound, I want some of what you are smoking.

I agree with the post about Wiz Miller being unethical. It's the same old theme in Dekalb , take care of my buddies, and the buddies of my buddies.

Anonymous said...

Who care's it's not like we were getting quality recruits any damnn way.

Anonymous said...

If Anon 12 noon on 2/28 is correct...a whole lot of stuff will happen...DeKalb will lose its Police Academy (the Sheriff has a training dept. - not a State certified law enforcement Academy). DeKalb will lose State money (not a bunch - but, still money for training needs). And - to do in-service every year will be a nightmare - also, the personnel in the Academy will have the State computer ripped out and there will no longer be anyone who will have the capability to do any record keeping there in DeKalb. Those are just some of the things that will happen right off the top of my head. Plus the little thingey about the constitution. If it happens - with no planning - it will be a true mess. Whatever, what else is new?

Anonymous said...

The county has major budget problems yet there are openings being advertised for 3 assistant directors in watershed managment. thats at least $210,000 in salarys a year. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anonymous said...

S.O. has taken over larger agencies historically so I don't think it would be as big a deal as you are making it out to be. It is pretty much a done deal anyway from what we are hearing.

Anonymous said...

How would combining PD and SO save money?

Anonymous said...

I don't see this happening for two reasons. First, the BOC would be relinquishing all control of PD to the Sheriff. They can't control him. Second, even if there was a cost savings to be seen, I don't think that there would be, the savings wouldn't happen for many, many years. The BOC can't think that far out. The initial costs to consolidate would be very high and all they cared about.

Anonymous said...

rumor has it the academy was not canceled because of budget cuts. It was canceled because post is investigating the training records.

Politician=Perp said...

Good cops leaving every day no academy class to replace those bodies equates to less cops on the road. Less cops on a shift means plan "B" every day. Mabey u should quit and become a perp I mean politician. Crime does pay in Dekalb.

jcallen12003 said...

To combine the resources would be a great idea, but it would pan out over time. Training deputies would be cost effective as opposed to sending a new recruit through the whole academy. The deputies only need the 404 hours and it can be done. Douglas County sheriffs patrol their county and works the jail. It can work, just will take time. The Sheriff being the "High Constable" has the power to take over all policing and safety measures within according to the state constitution.

Once in a while it's mentioned here but now is a good time to do it again. The reason that Dekalb is a basket case, is because the voters elect, and re-elect crooks, and washouts. It's that simple.
