Annexation Proposal Could Expand Dunwoody Southward Or Start The City of Brookhaven

Burrell and his band of merry-men are following in the foot steps of Vernon by ignoring the citizens of north DeKalb, or at the very least treating them as second class citizens who pay first class taxes.

When Dunwoody formed it's own city, it cost the county millions and millions of tax dollars each year. Now Dunwoody is looking at the possibility of annexing the Brookhaven area, leaving some of the residents considering forming their own city.

Rumblings are coming from the Brookhaven area. Here is want State Representative Mike Jacobs has to say: “I am committed to looking at the issue, particularly in light of how badly things are going in DeKalb County right now,” he said. “The county government is bloated in areas that are far flung from its core mission.” Speaks volumes doesn't it?

We believe if either of theses happen, annexation or the formation of another city, Dekalb County will collapse. The Northlake/Oak Grove/Emory area cannot sustain today's spending and looting.

Watch them fall! Did DeKalb not learn anything from Fulton County. When the educated people of this county wake up and become involved this will be the end of the tax base. Maybe that is how Dunwoody ended the year on a surplus. They weren't blaming the bad economy for their budget. Ask anyone in Dunwoody what the average police response time is. Go and visit the city government office there and see the difference for yourself. Not overstaffed with do nothing positions and idiots. Drive through the community and witness their public works crews actually working. Look at the apartment complexes along P.I.B. and compare the difference before Dunwoody and after. It is not a mystery why all of this happened. Educated working people took control away from crooks and into their own hands. Don't worry about Emory or Northlake they will follow suit after the burden becomes solely theirs. Thanks Mike Jacobs for seeing the corruption and waste under this county government.

DeKalb will become the next Fulton County. Not much of Fulton left except the name!

Dunwoody is very smart because they saw the handwriting on the wall and knew it was written by the CEO and his cronies, all of which, are wasted space and parasites.

Now Ellis is running scared because the last thing he wants to lose, is more tax base. But the constant bleeding of the unincorporated areas of the screwed up county is forcing him to grab everything he can. Areas like Smokerise, Tucker, Northlake, OakGrove, etc over going to be so overloaded with property taxes and the like, that these areas will be forcd to create new cities.

Thieves like Ellis and his bunch are scared that they will not have any extra money to line their pockets when it is all said and done. Do you think that things were bad with VJ, they were mild considering with who we have presently. VJ was a piece of cake....Ellis is the whole damm bakery. Put Ellis in the same barrel with the President, and watch out! God help us all !!

Regardless how you look at it, DeKalb County is on the brink of collapse. There's not enough revenue generating businesses in Dekalb to support the current spending. Hell, many of the businesses that are in place are already receive HUGE tax breaks for being in Dekalb. Once those benefits expire, they'll just pack up shop and move out, as they have done in the past. Need proof? Just look at the sweet deals given to the anchor stores at Stonecrest Mall. Once those expire, guess what? The stores already in the mall are packing up and leaving now.

DeKalb County is dead. The only problem is that it just hasn't been buried yet.

Yup its coming and I dont blame them.

I for one wish they would come all the way into Druid Hills. Annex away folks. At least I would have a say in where my tax dollars went, instead of the current status quo.

Oak Grove PD....LOL....that would be hilarious....

Do I hear $100.00.....$150.00.....$175.00.....Going once, going twice...Hold it.....$ 1.00 SOLD !!!

That is what Dekalb County is currently worth on the auction block!!!

Next sale??

duuudes,

Dunwoody formed becaused they hated Vernon Jones'guts. Burrell wont be as hated as muh as Vernon because he has not stolen enough yet. However they think DeKalb government is inept at best. Which is hillarious because in the 80s DeKalb was considered dynamic and extremely efficient. DeKalb was the pride of Georgia. Public Safety actually started losing it when they got rid of Dick Hand who Bobby Burgess backstabbed the whole time Director Hand was here. The "good ole boys" were just as corrupt but they catered to North Dekalb, Druid Hills, Northlake which is actually Tucker for you uniformed officers that did not grow up in DeKalb. But the difference was the "good ole boys" were crooks but they did not throw it in your face and it usually took about 5 years to figure out what they did. They were discrete and catered to those that paid taxes. Trust me, I was there. Burgess was against take home walkie talkies, semi automatics, on board computer terminals, swat team, or any other great idea that Dick Hand brought up and implemented to make this a beter and highly ranked department. The promotions were not fair at all until Captain Rowle's and Major Huey's lawsuit was settled in 1995 where Director Brown stated in Federal Court, "I am Public Safety Dwirector. I promote who I want to promote!" The county had to pay both officers money plus over a million dollars in litigation to the attourneys. That is when Auburn started doing the testing for the county. So please dont think corruption, ineptitude, or unethical behavior just started. It has always been here. But then we were the highest paid, had the best equipment, and a great reputation.

Notice the areas of Fulton still patrolled by county police....the south side slums.
Those who actually pay all the taxes tend to live in the same areas and they WILL form a new city as we have all seen in Fulton.
Dekalb has a history of electing total crooks and we see what this has led to.

Dick Hand was the last real leader the police department ever had and Bob Ghul was the last real leader that the county had. Those day's are long gone. Too bad. Vernon Jones was the worst thing to ever happen to Dekalb County and the police department.

Why are residents of Druid Hills asked to pay higher taxes, while at the same time paying out-of-pocket for off-duty officers to patrol their neighborhoods?

Why is their beat car on I-85?

What a crock. Druid Hills PD anyone?

The incredible irony is that white north DeKalb put Burrell Ellis in office. Now look at what they have for that decision. There is nothing wrong with DeKalb County that good honest leadership will not fix. Of course we don’t have that now but if DeKalb would vote some decent people into office there would be no need for annexation and talk of new citys.

Dunwoody's only thriving because of the breaks given them by the state legislature. Park land for 100 per acre, the Perimeter Center area and other county owned property for pennies on the dollar.

The problem in Dekalb is that some of it's residents are not willing to work together, they instead have a my way or the highway approach to dealing with the issues we face.

Poiint a finger at Dekalb all you want but the whole State of GA is in crisis. We are lagging in the current national recovery and our education system still ranks next to last. It seems that these critics of Dekalb are silent on the woes of the State of GA. Crap flows downhill.

It ALL comes down to the community as a whole. Either the majority condone and conduct themselves honestly or they simply do not. There are not enough officers on the planet to police a corrupt and dishonest community the size of Dekalb. Having said that, can we at least go to a 3/12 hour shift to help with fuel costs until the final collapse?

If it all colapses....what about our pensions? Or have they raided that fund dry already as well....

Yall wanted the most ethinicly diverse county in the western hemisphere. You got it. Now everybody hates everybody. The elected officials are crooks and operate like this is a 3rd world banana republic in DeKalb and everybody is to broke to pay for all the special "programs". Enjoy it!

To anon 4:58 PM...

For your information, a great deal of the population in south and central GA would love nothing more than to leave north GA behind and start thier own state mcuh the way Milton County is separating from Fulton County. The entire metro Atlanta area is toast and real jobs are now non existant. It comes down to priorities. Metro Atlanta's priorities have been screwed up for decades and sucked away the lifeblood of the rest of the state in taxes. Much the way Dunwoody got fed up with DeKalb government and took care of thier own citizens.

So, to fix this mess, either DeKalb and all of the other large metro areas in this state need to get thier priorities straight and start making thier counties and communities a GOOD place to live and work. DeKalb and Atlanta are not now. Who wants to live and work in a war zone? That means you had better start taking care of public safety for no other reason that quality of life issues. I guess if you like or are used to living and working in a war zone then none of this makes any sense.

I can't help but think of Ellis and his appointed staff as a bunch of thugs doing a "smash and grab," where they loot everything they can with complete disregard for their surroundings as quick as they can before they're voted out of office. Ellis, this isn't some Snoop Dogg video where you can party til 6 in the mornin, your job is to recommend legislation to keep us afloat. And if you're content with being a slumlord CEO, if anything you need to increase PD and Fire personnel, because they're about the only thing you'll need.

You know I read this thing and can’t help but think how racist most of you are. You hide behind this blog, so you can show your true colors. Now let’s get a few things straight. If these areas annex that means you are going to lose your job you IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!! If you think that Dunwoody and those areas are the only areas with the tax base you need to stop smoking crack. Do you know what revitalization is? Take a drive around the entire county to see what I’m talking about. And for the jack ass that mentioned undereducated people in this county. I am willing to bet money you are a GED or high school graduate, I would hate to think that a collage graduate would make such ignorant statements without doing any research. Yes this county has a lot of problems, look who is running every department, I meant department heads. Once you do that ask yourself are we better off now or was it better a few years ago? The answer just might surprise you. You can sit here and dog Vernon Jones out, say what you want this shit didn’t fly under his administration. For one thing when you had a high profile case, he would show up at the scene. And if he didn’t show up he would have the chief in his office to address the issue the next day. ROCK ON OB!
Yes we have problems in this county 95% of you have no voice; you can’t bring about any change. And for the crime this reflects the job you’re doing. Back in the day when real police patrolled pride was taken in your patrol area. If a hot call went out we handled it. The only thing you care about is working your extra jobs take them away and you guys will sink. And you have the nerve to encourage someone to annex be careful what you ask for. How do we expect the citizens of this county to feel our pain when we trash them every chance we get. We need to help educate theme, that’s how you make change but I forgot. They don’t reflect you so you don’t care. It’s time for the so called leaders of this department to take a stand and stop playing politics. If you don’t stand for nothing you will fall for anything. Be careful out there folks

Hey, Anon March & 4:55pm, Did you see another one of Vernon Jones' close friends was indicted by the Feds today for stuff that went on during Jones' administration? How many is that now? So much for your defending Vernon Jones and saying stuff wasn't tolerated when he was here! Who are the Feds going to indict next?? Vernon ruined this county. That's why Dunwoody left. That's why others want to leave. So much for your hero Vernon Jones!

Anon 4:55PM, before you go accusing others of being only high school graduates, take the time read your post over and fix all of the errors that an 8th grader shouldn't make!

Would you please show us these so called "racist comments?" Remember, if you're going to call people stupid in your next post, make sure your grammar and sentence structure don't make you look stupid!

"You know I read this thing and can’t help but think how racist most of you are. You hide behind this blog, so you can show your true colors."

BULLSHIT!!!!

"If these areas annex that means you are going to lose your job you IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!! If you think that Dunwoody and those areas are the only areas with the tax base you need to stop smoking crack."

More BULLSHIT!!!!! Your concerned only with YOUR job apparently. And if you think that the north side of DeKalb County hasn't been carrying the load for the southside for years then you are deluded and most likely suffer from wealth envy!

"The answer just might surprise you. You can sit here and dog Vernon Jones out, say what you want this shit didn’t fly under his administration."

An exceptional load of BULLSHIT!!!He did this to cover his own politcal interests. He didnt care in the least. You cant lie to me. Im an eyewitness!

"We need to help educate theme, that’s how you make change but I forgot. They don’t reflect you so you don’t care."

More BULLSHIT!!! How in the hell would you know who I am and what gives you the audacity to imply what race I am or that I "smoke crack"? The arrogance you display is eactly what has happend to DeKalb. Look in a mirror. Also, you need to learn how to spell properly. "Theme"??? You were probably educated (in recent years) in DeKalb...

To anon 4:55...I take it things arent working so well with your master plan on what dekalb should be? Seems to me the money trap has begun to run dry and the crybabies have come out of the woodwork. The voters elected these fools into office and they have bled the county government dry. You cant blame anyone but the voters of DeKalb if Dunwoody makes the changes they need to survive. The elected officials of Dekalb have ruined the place completely in a short span of 20 years.
Also, if you want to go down in flames screaming racism, be my guest.

Such a racist comment, seeing how south fulton is primarily minority population. As a 20 year LEO and a white male who lives in South Fulton, who was BORN in Fulton, I am offended by such idiotic comments. I am sure there are slums in Dunwoody

Wow Anon 4:55...if you're going to slam us idiot HS and GED grads at least learn how to spell COLLEGE.
I left the dept many years ago and it pains me to see all the crap the officers have to put up with now. Kinda glad I left but my thoughts are with you guys and gals.

To anon 12:00 A M You are right on money, my friend. I, too, was there during the times you reference. So many people seem to think today that Burgess was the "do no wrong-best thing that ever happened to DeKalb Pub. Safety" Far, far from the truth. Jim Rowell was a good man. Was with him at East during his law suit.Farley was the one who lied about his education & got promoted over Rowell. We all were happy down at East when Jim won -except maybe for Maj. Moody.who was tight w/Farley & was our "boss" at the time. Not making any accusations but did anybody besides a handful of officers ever wonder why Burgess continued to come to old 34 everyday to check on the progress of the investigation into the shooting death of Derwin? Was it really a "from the heart" gesture? Then after Dorsey was finally convicted - case closed- guess who was hardly ever seen again at 34. .Talk about corruption. You can't by-pass the Presidential Hotel scandal. Boy! If those walls could have only talked but then who needed talking walls? Many officers and other employees as well did lots of talking to John Petrey in the D.A.'s office. The results of THAT investigation reeked of the good ole boy syndrome . Yea, back in the day.Definitely nothing new in Dekalb when the word "corruption" comes to mind.

Anon 8:43..Don't forget to add TeBo to the list of the worst things that ever happened to our county & police dept. That man was a living nightmare! Regardless of whether one of Ellis' reasons for kicking him to the curb was self-serving, it was a joyous day when the door hit him where the good Lord split him on his way out.

To ana 2:34 AM I was always told that the elected officials always reflect the mindset of the voters who elect them. Unless the mindset of the voters of DeKalb has changed your answer is NO. You need only look at the recent crop of elected officials and figure that one out.
Maybe Bishop Eddie Long should run for office. No wait. Never mind...

To 7:29 A M: don't lump all the voters in one basket. Through your eyes and in your opinion, you may not see too many voters in our county who have the common sense to recognize a good, honest political candidate when they see one. However, there ARE many of us out here who do our homework before election day and come away so disappointed with the candidate choices it makes one not even want to waste his/her time driving to the polls. If you or anyone else knows someone that resides in DeKalb and who is honest, dependable and has a sincere desire to bring much needed credibility as well as accountability to our government, then why not make every effort to interest that person in becoming a candidate for a position in our next election? Any takers?

To 9:00 PM

I stand corrected. What I meant to say was that The Majority of Voters are the ones responsible for electing these idiots. You and I both know that a minority of voters do not count in a majority wins election unless there is voter fraud. I dont beleive there was has been any of that in the last few elections, therefore the majority of the voters are voting for thieves to represent them. Can anyone explain that?
