Commissioners Ask For Yet Another Study

"The county will ask a third-party firm to audit each county department and gather information about positions, workloads, responsibilities and job descriptions. The board wants the audit complete before the next budget process begins in August".

Didn't they just do this?

Lunatics.

It's a waste of more tax paryers hard earned money. The BOC already has the information they need to get efficient. Just DAMN DO IT ...holy crap, what the hell gives here ?

Next we're going to have a study of the studies already done, then a study of that study.

Stop studying and do something constructive! And constructive doesn't mean constructing more unused sidewalks in south DeKalb!

So how much does this cost? The revenue is not coming in because nobody wants to move here or start a business here. Those that could, packed up and left and I don't blame them. Now look, a new city possibly in the works, more lost revenue. What the hell are you doing to fix this sinking ship?

Yes. A very comprehensive study has already been done and tossed in the trash...what exactly we're hoping to learn from a new one who knows...probably now they want one to see how many unnecessary positions can be kept for friends, cronies, mistresses, etc.

The ones doing the study are most certainly cronies of those ordering it.

Maybe we should hire the companies that do all the studies to run the county since the BOC can't figure anything out by themselves. No wonder Dunwoody and Brookhaven want out. KEEP THESE IDIOTS AWAY FROM OUR PENSION.

We all know the BOC can't make everyone happy hell no one in charge of other people can. I am ok with things they come up with that affects me but is good for the masses but these assholes can't get it right. I agree what is another study going to do. They are going to come back and tell you certain positions are a waste and you are going to trash the recommendations because the job is there so your family member or friend who has no skills can have a job. This county is the poster child for a Nannie State. The United States is going broke due to all the social programs for lazy ass people. We need a bunch of fiscal conservatives to replace these assholes.

Another study?!? Really, the BOC must be kidding.. is it April 1st yet?

I suggest instead of wasting money on yet another study that they will just ignore, how about they get off their sorry butts and actually visit some of these Departments. Do not take a 'grand tour' with the Directors and such because we all know what a load of BS those are.... "and here is office assistant that created a cure for cancer on her lunch break and in this other office we work on nuclear fusion and feed hungry children....."

The BOC should just pick a day, show up, look around and ask employees what they are doing. The CEO and upper management would freak out because it is unscripted, but who cares. This is the only way the BOC will really see how things are run.

Why don't they do this? What are they afraid of? Denial of how poor things are really run? Just a guess.

Commissioners keep on asking for additional studies because there is no large print for them to look at. Furthermore, the studies must have photos and large drawings to look. The avergae reader of this blog is under the assumption that the commissioners are smart people. They are not. I would be surprised if half of them can read at all.

By asking for a new study is nothing new, and it is a way of stalling whatever the current undertaking is. After the study, comes the analizing which involves further delay, then public meetings, and maybe, whatever the project is might get adopted or passed. Remember once important thing.......Everything moves very slowly in this county and why would a new study be any different?

Dekalb government simply stands for:

DUMB
EGOTISTICAL
KINGS
ALWAYS
LYING
BADLY

They are hiring someone they pre-screened first...Making sure the auditors will not say the CEO's office needs to be downsized!

Mates, this is not new study of county operations as the GSU study was. This is a desk audit of your job position to determine if the position is warranted and how many employees are need to fill the position. DKPD Cops don't have anything to worry about. I have heard rumors that shutting down several fire-stations is being seriously considered for cuts.
To the DeKalb BOC. This is a start but it will require a lot more than this to fix DeKalb government. Major reorginization is imperative.
Lee May's GSU study is 80 percent correct in its findings and provides some valid targets for downsizing and reorganization.
A couple of suggestions. Engage the citizens in this process. Convene a couple of grand juries to examine DeKalb government operations and offer recommendations.
This should of been done three years ago. Instead a lot of money has been wasted on over-extended quality of life projects that gain votes, and are not core-functions of a local government.
An Aqua-park. The horse farm, A Performing Arts center, the church on Snapfinger Pkwy, the bloated and expensive CEO's staff, security for the CEO, trips to DC, and other national conferences.
Balance these priorities against the grounding of the DKPD Aerial Support Unit or CSI no longer servicing burglaries. Which is more important to the safety and welfare of DeKalb citizen's?
Tough choices have to be made. I have zero confidence in the DeKalb BOC due to past performance.
I challenge the DeKalb BOC to prove me wrong and start providing effective and smart leadership in downsizing DeKalb government to a sustainable proportion of the citizen's tax revenue.
The very best of luck, mates!

Hell, the CEO at least made some of the cuts recommended by the GSU study. The BOC made NONE!!!

DeKalb County will soon be assorbed by the exsisting cities within the county.
Since vernon took office the county has been on a downward spiral with no signs of recovery.

Well I am not sure that the City of Lithonia absorbing what is now east precinct is a good thing. Remember there was a time not long ago when they had to park their police cars since the city did not have the money to pay for the insurance on them. Also of concern was the fact that their mayor was recalled. Just sayin...

Well put this in your pipe and smoke it. Heard 2 new rumors today, yet to be verified, OK? First is that Dekalb County borrowed money from park bonds account to meet payroll (to avoid taking more from the anticipation note); and second, that Mike Bell has been hired as a consultant to review County finances.
Have a good evening.

A former 321m,

I haven't followed them much, but where in the hell is the Dekalb Police Alliance in all this? I thought their purpose was to show support for po-lice. Just a question.

Hang in there guys. Dekalb will rise again.

I hope they start with the police department and see how top heavy the department is. Its something how there aren't enough officers on the streets and whenever an academy graduates, theres a promotion that follows. My FTO once told me the backbone of the department is UNIFORM, that's the front line. The more officers on the street, means less crime, and you don't need as many detectives. But not here!!! We are a reactive department instead of proactive. Explain this, back before shit bag VJ, there would be 15 units per shift on the road. We had less officers in the department then with more territory to cover. Now, we have about 200 more officers, less territory since Dunwoody and Chamblee took most of North, and there aren't enough officers to back one another up. What's wrong here???

Hello McFly.....we were on a 5/2, you want to go back to that???

Anonymous said...

At this point I think we MUST go back to a 5/2 work week just to survive.

Anonymous said...

Why do we have to go back to a 5/2 week just to survive?

Anonymous said...

Staggering off days within a 5 day work work provides more officers on duty.

Anonymous said...

Going back to a 5/2 won't help one survive, at least from county income, any more than one can already do. The pay remains the same but an additional added commute to and from work would be the result. That equals even more for gas. And as for having a third off day, is that not better suited, if need be, to be available to work an extra part-time gig for much needed added income?

Come on now Anon April 3, 2011 4:33pm. Think before you drool nonsense out of your head, please.

Anonymous said...

I believe they were talking about survival (officer safety) by increasing manpower, not personal agendas of saving fuel costs for individuals. Think of the team for once and not just yourself.

An average plan implemented immediately is better then a great plan acted upon 1 minute to late.
