William “Wiz” Miller has been named director of the county 911 center.
Makes you wonder if Dunwoody saw this coming and fled.

what a joke. no offense to him, but is he even qualified for that stuff?
It is a slap in the face to all the 911 operators
Unbelievable how he is demoted, yet he still gets his $150,000 salary. Wonder if Conroy made $150,000?
Of course burrell had to make it look like the Wizard gets more a better job. Maybe that is because he didn't do anything to begin with.
how is he going to run the 911 center when he doesn't even go into the office?
This place is a joke, but Mr. Ellis could care less because he is on his way out. It doesn't matter what the BOC does to Wiz Miller because there is always a new position to be made up for him.
Wait P.S. Director Miller's the named Communications Director? So someone else has to do all the work for him and get paid regular sallary for the supervisor work? My guess is that Conroy still has to do all the work. Hmmm, thats where they found money to fund his position.
I agree with the comments. What are Millers qualifications to direct the 911 call center?
When I first read that Miller was going to fix the CADS a week ago I got a good laugh about it. In my humble opinion it would take two savvy and knowledgeable Data Base analysts about a year to fix the CADS. Miller would just slow them down.
I'm confused here...he's the public safety director which is already over police, fire, EMS, and 911, but now he's over 911. Is he still public safety director assigned as 911 director, or is he just the 911 director now? And if he's no longer the public safety director, is that position going away or what?
Should I even be trying to figure this out....
What is there to figure out....It clearly states he is still the Public Saftey Director with a added responsibilty of now being the Director over Communication, And how is this a demotion...What Ellis has said to all of us is "TALK TO THE HAND"
The confusion in his title is deliberate so it will be unclear as to who has the authority to fire him.
With Dunwoody leaving the DKC 911 the job should be easier.
Lets get this right . We are questioning Miller's qualification. I came to department before Miller and saw him rise in some fairly dangerous positions. He was smart enough early on to obtain some credible credentials.BS and Law degree at at local university. He was demoted by Bolton and his crew from Deputy Chief and worked at Distric Attorneys office as prosecutor. Brought back and looked upon by all at department as the savior, because Bolton had whipped everyone into submission. Billy O'Brien made chief and all of a sudden a new savior was risen. O'Brien stays acting for 2 years and everyone pretended to be in awe of why he had not been chosen for permanent spot. O'Brien worked on his degree and spends 6 months at FBI academy to obtain some supposed crebility credentials for resume. Ellis and Miller stand by O'Brien until he receives a degree two yeas later when no where else in country besides Mayberry he would be considered for such a position. Once the permanent assignment. The masses don't need Miller and his big bad Law degree. They have a new savior. No public support from any of the weasel appointees of Miller, not even his Buddys,Homes and Lane Woodard.. Now Miller officially takes over 911 director job to relieve Conroy probably because he has pissed Dunwoody and the rest of the County completely off.I have heard much rumbling out of Dunwoody who just left . Conroy supoosedly is able to run 911 better than Miller and is more qualified, butjust months ago I read this blog and he was the target of the masses.
Someone please offer me some credible solutions on this blog, because I am confused totally. Thank the savior for allowing me the opportunity to leave that place years ago. I really don't know how Ellis, Miller or O'Brien does it. Let's just raise Maloof from grave or Levitan or maybe even Vernon so that place can get back right.HA
No one can fire him except the CEO. The BOC can elect to vote against approving his salary in the budget. They cannot fire him.
I find it difficult to believe that someone with specific 911/communications experience would not do a better job than he can.
I agree with anon 1:12 911 has money from the 911 fees to cover the salary of a 911 director and even many dispatchers. (Time consuming to recruit, hire, and train and retain them) Putting him over 911 now allows his salary to come out of that money. With the BOC saying, they would not fund his Public Safety Director salary/office expense, now he can be paid via 911 since he has that title.
The reality is that superman would not have all the technical knowledge, expertise and experience to effectively manage all of those departments. You will have the department heads unable to make decisions because they have to answer to him and he does not empower them. 911 Director is serious responsibility, a full time responsibility and to suggest that he or anyone else with other high-level competing responsibilities could handle it is ludicrous and dangerous.
I also agree with anon 8:21. Let us recap:
Director of Emergency Management (umm, ok - He is qualified for that how exactly? Did he an emergency management certification?), Director of Public Safety, overseer of police, fire (Did he get a Georgia Firefighter certification?), and animal services departments, recorders court, and the medical examiner's office??? (Umm, does he have ANY medical knowledge?)
I actually feel bad for him. Kind of. Remember how quick Foster was fired. He was held accountable for that death. I would not want to be responsible for disciplines I did not have expertise in.
It's just like what CEO Ellis is doing with Ted Rhinehart, Deputy COO of Infrastructure. Ted is also Director of Public Works and now Interim Director of Watershed Management. He is a yes man to Ellis and ends up not doing much of anything.
All this does is allow the CEO, Stogner, Rhinehart and the Commissioners to be corrupt and line their pockets with money from contractors seeking the sewer contracts. The watershed management department is a hot mess just in time for this $1.3 billion to be spent (or wasted) to clean up the sewer spills that seem to be increasing.
I only have one question for the CEO and the BOC members: How many dead hookers has this guy helped you bury?
Bring Barry Woodward back. He is the only professional 911 Director this county ever had, and the county let him retire 8 years ago, and look where it's gone. To hell in and hand basket. I for one who have been in the center for a number of years would like to see a professional communications person in here.
I have an extra headset for Miller..let him work a special for TWELVE HOURS STRAIGHT
To the operator with the extra headset give it to Lt. Vickie Logan she needs it now seeing how she cannot qualify with her firearm and now on remedial training. That's what happens when you are protected for so long. I hope I never need her services when she goes to a precinct. She is a joke!!!!!!
In reference to Vickie Logan,,
So let me get this right; If an officer fails to write an incident report he/she gets written up for Neglect of Duty, but if an officer, especially a supervisor, fails to qualify with their firearm, nothing happens to them. Only in Dekalb!
To those of you that work the great South Side, his niece is there on M/W. And she's there for a reason.
