Anybody know anything about the rumor of 22 years service and out? and at what percentage? and when it might happen?

Anonymous said...

Its a rumor, no more retirement early outs. Sorry

Anonymous said...

does anyone know which Officer lost their home in a fire this week? was it one of ours?

Anonymous said...

No more early out! Keep your hands off my pension! Do your 30, stop looking for a handout.

Anonymous said...

As for the fire, it was Ofc Gent and his wife. Luckily no one, including the babies, were hurt.

Make your own 20 and out by investing wisely and not living beyond your means.

The pension can not afford another early retirement incentive.

Just because his post is at the bottom of the page, keep the heat on Higdon!

Be thankful for you have a job as many of your fellow brother and sisters out there is unemployed land are not that lucky. Don't worry about how much time you til retirement. Live every day to its fullest and be thankful for what you have.

It might not be utopia or perfect, but it is better than being unemployed or collecting UE insurance for a long period of time.

Life is too short is worry about this job or the job of the future or what might happen tomorrow. Some of us are not that lucky in the respect that they might leave us tomorrow permanently.

So forget about early out rumors, or salary furloughs or cuts, at least you have a job.

Be thankful for what little you have as some people aren't that lucky at all.

Did anyone else notice that after the BOC voted to eliminate the Public Safety Directors position, Wiz puts together a "operational plan" involving Vice, Narcotic, SWAT and Gangs to essentially round up hookers and guys with $5 dope bags? He puts the plan together and then calls out the media so he can show what he's doing to clean up the streets. Seems to me like he's trying to politic his was back into the director of public safety position to me.

I concur with Anon2-4, the last retirement incentive was a fluke, a combination of misguided progressive politics and poor morale of DeKalb employees after a decade of being treated as dirt. The last retirement incentive was a once in a lifetime event. Those unable to qualify will not get another chance.
Personally I believe the BOC will elect to give out more furlough days rather than cut employees. The BOC has proven over the last years that they will not make the tough and hard decisions of reorganizing the county and cutting excessive staffing. The GSU study was a great starting point for the BOC to carefully study the issue and cut low-priority programs, obsolete departments such the Extension service, and get rid of excess managers and directors that don't have enough to do while their employees run themselves into the dirt trying to do more with less. Instead the commissioners elected to bury the GSU study. Fifty grand thrown away for nothing. That would just about pay the salary for one rookie cop for a year.
I have made it clear of my displeasure with the CEO, BOC and their staffs. It would be one thing if they were coming up with real solutions to DeKalb government problems by working hard and intelligently to reorganize and down-size the county instead of lame and inept fixes such as the retirement incentive, furloughs and the generic budget cuts. The only time the BOC has shown any innovation was with the illegal "unpaid holidays" that disguised a pay cut and screwed the cops royally.
Instead the highest paid local government officials in the region continue to trot out lame ideas and generic remedies that do not solve the base problems that DeKalb government is financially over-extended with too many feel-good programs while the core government functions languish.
Three years ago my low-paid Newton county commissioners made the tough choices, reorganized the county government, laid off 10 percent of the work force, cut back on programs and hours of operation. Each year since they have continued to make adjustments to the county operations and personnel as the budget revenue continues to decline and maintain service to the citizens.
If the DeKalb BOC would even do half of what my local BOC has, then DeKalb government would be in much better shape financially.
I have little doubt that the highly paid DeKalb BOC and staff expends a lot of thought and effort into solving the financial mess they have brought the county to. Unfortunately the results can only judged as pathetic attempts to avoid making the hard and tough decisions that other local county governments made years ago.

To May 15, 2011 2:11 PM,

Im real tired of people like you.... Be thankful you have a job. Shut the F-up.I was looking for a job when I got this one and Ill have a job when I leave here. Which will be real soon.. I have invested well and have a nice sum in Def Comp, POAF, and Stocks. I have never been out of a job since I had my first job as a paperboy making $10 a week at 12 yrs old. Since then I have been gamefully employed. Not all my jobs were good one but never took a check from unemployement or any other Gov help... So to you, no Im not happy to have a job where they have taken away from me what was promised when I started. You be happy because Im sure its you that are lucky to have a job... Shit for all I know you are the CEO and know that YOU will not find a real job after your term.. Signed Happy to have a job. HHHHaaaa

I think we need to do another Glenwood Day special.

The AJC ran a story last week about state legislators who owe money to the ethics commission for not filing campaign finance reports or filing them late. I searched the state database and found the following DeKalb folks:

Elaine Boyer owes $150

Linda Carter owes $100

Viola "Unhappy Taxpayers" Davis owes $325

Aldranon English owes $75

Vernon Jones owes $25

Jeff Rader owes $75

Bobbie Kennedy Sanford owes $350

Tony Scipio owes $325

Connie Stokes owes $75

Judy Yates owes $75

I owe Center CID .50 cents for the Oatmeal Creme Pie I had on Friday...

oh hell naw!!! no more Glenwood days

After awhile you can only blame yourself for still working here. Nothing will ever change or get better so get out now while you can. I left 4 years ago and have not looked back!!

Anonymous said...

To the officer who said he left 4 years ago and hasn't looked back. Why are you posting on DeKalb site? is that not what you're doing? Looking back. We got our problems here but I really get sick of guys coming on here acting as if they have it so good. I understand current officers posting as anonymous but if you so happy, why are you anonymous? I think you are like the rest, you leave but you beg to come back. Talk to the folks in background and see how many former guys want to come back. What a joke!!!!!

Don't know about anyone else here but I would rather invest my pension money on my own somewhere else. At least if there is nothing there at the end, Im the one who will ultimately be responsible for that and not all the dam crooks running this place and the pension.

Food for thought

To anon 7:52....from another former DKPD.........quit hating.....sorry you cant find anything else to do but continue to receive the lashings from the county.

Don't knock the former brother /sister in blue for looking back.... its just a means of positive reinforcement.....the bond is hard to break....Hats off to those who have moved on. It takes guts to move on and find another way to make a living.

I and obviously the former DKPD poster still have friends and ties to DKPD.

Its a shame that so many good guys and gals have moved on to greener pastures. I look back on what I did....the risk I took, the sacrifices I made over my career (I am vested in the old pension) and feel sadness. Sadness that I dedicated a good portion of my working adult life to a county that treated and continues to treat people willing to lay their lives on the line, so poorly, for a populous and government that truly does not understand and refuses to recognize the sacrifices that both present and former DKPD make/made to better the county of Dekalb.

DKPD was kick-ass years ago. Now....its a poor department to work for. I like to get on this blog and see whats going on. And I too am glad Iv e moved on and figured out how to make a living else where,

DKPD is akin to trying to make a living with one hand tied behind your back. The county is always ------- with you. Your never gonna get ahead working for DKPD and for that matter any local agency in the south. The odds are stacked against you.

New officers reading this blog....if you wanna stay in LE do your 2 years, get out of the south....look north or midwest.

And as for you ANON 7:52....Ellis knows that fools like you will continue to carry the torch well into the night for little pay, broken marriages, and the eventuality of being an old man who at the age of 62 will still be toting a pistol and be wiling to die for a ---- county. Yeah.......people like you......people who accept what the commission doles out....make it worst for everyone. Because........you wont leave.......... you know no other way......to make a living.......to pay the bills........but to go 10-41. Nor do you have the foresight, the vision, to do anything else but to take the scrapes that the county passes your way.

As long as their are fools like you,........ people who say "Yes sir, Ill do it" the county will always treat all of you like trash.

Theres two kinds of DKPD officers.......those under the old pension....and those under the new........$10 says your under the new.

Talk to me in 10 years. Lets see what you have to say about DKPD.

Anonymous said...

To the former DKPD, I agree with the other poster. I don't think he/she was hating. They must have struck a nerve. If you miss your friends in blue so much, pick up the phone. You make it sound as though you 've made so much money since leaving. The economy is bad no matter where you go. Why don't you do us some real good and post the great job opportunity from your agency so we can all flock there, instead of saying we're fools for staying? I agree, stay off this site, unless you have some REAL solutions to help us. You probaby work for Pinelake or Porterdale, in that case, you can keep your appication. We still have alot of pride.

Anonymous said...

To May 18, 2011 12:01 PM, Just shut up.. I still work here but wont for much longer...I am now using the county until I leave..When I do leave, you can bet your ass or Dekalb County career that I will still visit this site and laugh at any officer that stayed. M outta here soon......

During this past weekend with graduation ceremonies, events, parties, etc, and in the midst of a fuel shortage, what does our brilliant leader Chief Yarbrough do? He ORDERS every precinct to send 1-2 officers per hour to go to the CEO's picnic at Brown's Mill Park to show support. WTF? That's over an hour travel time (to/from)for North officers, and a huge waste of fuel. So now we gotta PRETEND as though we support the CEO so Yarbrough can look good! I guess that's the name of the game, make myself look good. Isnt that right, Yarbrough? What idiot would plan this picnic during graduation weekend anyway? Traffic was a nightmare. "Look Mr CEO. Look at all the officers here. They really support you sir!" Yarbrough, you are a pathetic human being!

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:56

Are you just not figuring out that Yarbrough is all about Yarbrough? Must I remind you that he was trained by the best ass kisser to date, Rodney Rancifer!

Anonymous said...

Did Chief Woodard make it mandatory for detectives to attend the CEO's picnic? I dont think so. Just Yarbrough trying to make himself look good at the expense of others. His m/o ever since he's been here.

Damn.... when did being a Dekalb police officer become just a J O B, job.

We sure went downhill at break neck speed.

I remember being disappointed that the week was over and I wasn't going to be in for three days. My better half called this my "hobby job".

I miss when this place was fun....when roll call wasn't something you didn't look forward to.

I am really sorry I missed the CEO’s picnic. I had to work and could not be there. Maybe next year if I am lucky.

Who set fire to the outdoor range?
