Here It Comes!

At the upcoming commission meeting June 28, 2011, the commissioners are set to vote on reducing our accrued leave time.

We can't figure out why the BOC delays putting it's meeting agendas on the county web page. but here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Remember that the commissioners don't play by the same rules as we do, so this will not effect them at all. They'll keep accruing their leave at the same rate, if they don't raise it.

We hope Mr. Jackson Jr. will be there to speak up for us along with the F.O.P. and as many officers as the room will hold.

BOHICA.....I am really starting to hate this job.

Guys, please stop wasting your careers and advancement you would have elsewhere. I'm not sure why some of you prefer to stay on a sinking ship but it's certainly going down never to recover in our lifetime.

First to worst. How the hell did this happen?

This is getting ridiculous... So many people on here complaining about how the BOC is shafting the employees but you never see a damn A$$ at any of the BOC meetings.... If it really means that much to you then stop waiting on someone else to fight your battles for you and take your whining asses to the meetings... Do something for once in your careers for yourself instead of waiting on the rest of us to do it for you....yes that's right... I'm tired of trying to fight you pansy asses battles.. I don't plan to do it anymore...

Enough SAID!!!!...

I ain't quite ready to jump this Ship called DeKalb County just yet. This Board of Carpetbaggers has no respect for anyone in DeKalb County. Their actions are so unbelieveable and so unjust, many no less than an absolute "Violation of the Public Trust" in my humble opinion. One would think that The U.S. District Attorney has her eye on the matter. What with our District Attorney being blind and all ? On Tuesday I will try to be more reserved in my presentation before The Board of Carpetbaggers to get my full three minutes in. I'm not so sure Lit'l Lari will be in such a hurry to chase me out the door. I am humbled by your most kind comments and thank you all, Sincerely, Jerry Myer Jackson Jr

Alpharetta's MINIMUM base salary for a master officer with 7 years at the agency is $72,000 with a brand new take home.

I cant imagine why anyone would want to work for Dekalb County.

Again, you must put in 7 years IN ALPHARETTA to be eligible for that payrate. Some can't afford to wait 7 years...

If you actually read the new policy on page 4 (not the business agenda meeting minutes - note), any accumulated leave over 60 days (480 hrs max on 8 hr day) will be converted to sick leave. Then in 2012 if you send a letter opting for a reserve account. For less than 10 years you can put 240 hrs in the reserve account or if you have more than 10 years you can put 120 hrs in a reserve account, otherwise it is converted to sick time.

Face it people.....Dekalb County Government, simply put is f _ _ _ _ d up. There isn't a better or simpler way of saying it. This gets right to the point.

Would you rather spend 7 years in Alpharetta getting raises and advancements or another 7 in Dekalb getting reductions at every turn? Enough said...

Does anyone know why they're trying to change this of all things? I didn't know there were problems with the leave system. It seems like the higher ups keep coming back to things that are not important, relevant, or that don't really need to be changed just so they can look like they're doing something...you'd think with all the issues we're having, an overhaul of the leave system would be far down the priority list...

do any of you on here actually plan on being here to the point where this matters? My applications are in Im just waiting how about you guys?

Here's my opinion (take it for what it's worth). If they lower the amount of hours you can keep on the books, then TAKE your vacation. Use every hour you EARN and spend it with your family. I'm sure they'd love to have more time with you than they get now.

I have only been to BOC meeting Back in the day When We had real Police Dept,
What time Do "I" "WE" need to be there ?

At 9:13 If you actually read the policy you would know that reserve account is a onetime option. You can only do it with the difference between the old rate and your new rate at the end of this year. Also when you cash out that reserve account it will be paid at your 2011 pay rate, not whatever you are currently earning. Also even though you will now accrue more sick time if you don't use that sick time toward early retirement you will not be paid for it. So if you stay 30 years, or if you quit you get nothing for all that sick time.

DeKalb is an EPIC FAIL said...

Well, I will have a TON of annual leave toward the end of the year. I guess it's time to un-ass the area and take my fat separation check while I still can. I've been here 8 years now and that is too long. I now make what I did in the academy and if the pension contributions go up again, I will make less than I did in the academy EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!! This place was great when I first got here and there were very dedicated officers who actually knew how to police. Now, all that is left is a bunch of rookie whining losers who want a job with benefits. Secretaries in police that write one crappy report after another, that write meaningless traffic tickets and have no clue how to make a felony arrest. I will now be searching for employment with a department in a community that appreciates it's officers. So long DKPD thanks for the experience and training!

Dekalb needs to clean house....Starting with the BRASS.

These proposals for changes came from the new HR director who came from.....drumroll please..........Atlanta!

She is not a career employee here and she most likely knows she wont be here much longer after Ellis, unless of course Vernon Jones gets elected, then he will keep her because its all about the complete destruction of DeKalb at the expense of the employee. She does not have the best interest of the Human Resources (employees) of the county.

From all I have heard about her she is a self-absorbed know it all. The BOC will soon show everyone what they think of the long term employees with their vote on these issues.

I agree that if you have less than 10 here, start looking for employment elsewhere because you are fixing to take one. If you have been here for more than 10 and have decided to make this place a career and dedicate most of your adult life to this place and the citizens, we are just going to have to lay down and take the BOC sausage one more time. Unless you decide to come to each BOC meeting and their "town hall" meetings and give them the feedback they claim they want to hear.

I would encourage you to use your powers of influence to do two things. 1.Talk to each and every person who is even remotely thinking about joining the police or fire department. Tell them to look somewhere else - do not come to this place. They will do nothing but go backwards - not forwards as far as pay and benefits. 2. Talk to the citizens and encourage them to talk to the BOC.
